Not exactly his first game in RF.   He’s been playing RF for years.  Pretty sure he knows about slices and hooks.

Precisely.  Which is why it was unacceptable.

My guess is that Sig has had this stuff for years.

I think it will be interesting to track players’ career arc on this stuff.   You figure that players’ bats get slower as they age.  But do they compensate with shorter swings?  How does square up percentage change with age?

Now Fangraphs has something to do.

No doubt.  It's been available to any recruiters or scouts through PG for close to 6 years now.  Just go to the site and look through rankings of any player that's been in a showcase or played in a PG event.  The better orgs have been using this data for at least 7+ years and likely a lot longer.  Diamond Kinetics was founded in 2013 and I imagine progressive teams were using the tech shortly there after.

There is a direct correlation between bat speed and xwOBACON.  It's not the end all be all, but it's ~40% of the equation (ability to square up balls "smash factor" and swing decisions being the other two components to hitting).

It's hard to complain about what Burnes has done and it's certainly not his fault the O's are 0-4 in his last four starts, but he came with a hype that's hard to live up to. So many analysts were saying "the Orioles finally have a real Game 1 starter for October!" but right now it's hard to imagine him mowing down the Phillies or whoever.

Why? In 9 starts he’s only given up 3 ERs twice.  He’s been darn good.   Seems pretty easy to imagine him mowing down just about anyone he faces.

I'd like to see Westburg lead off vs. LHers, Gunnar vs. RHers.

Gunnar is OPSing .113 points higher v. LHP than RHP this year.  He’s one of the best hitters in the game, a potential MVP and will be rightfully batting lead-off everyday he plays this year.

It’s all good Eddie, I understand your point and others as well. I worked in college sports for 9 years so I fully understand how a manager wouldn’t want to disrespect or hurt a veteran etc and in this case Mullins has been a well respected and productive/important O’ for a long time.

From my personal perspective, I think Hyde needs to give the team the best chance to tie the game which is not Mullins but I get it but don’t agree.

Managers have to make tough calls, it’s not always about managing “X’s and O’s” but managing the 25 on the roster and if Hyde feels it’s more important to “stand by” Mullins there vs potentially hurting his mental even more by going with Stowers then I’ll just have to disagree with Hyde even if I believe he’s a good manager overall.

Mullins hit the ball 100mph.  If it’s 10’ to the left or right the game is tied.
