I hope Joey Ortiz has a great career.
Me too. Easy guy to pull for. Everytime I watched him on Norfolk he made a play that made my jaw drop. And I was always blown away by his power since he was always labeled as a glove first guy. The dude can rake. Painful but necessary to trade him.

I'm sick of the mlb overhype machine. Just let the young guys come up without all the unnecessary fanfare and pressure. There must have been 10 articles on mlb two days ago when Holliday debuted.
His debut was the second most watched MLB Network weekday game. (Or something like that). MLB needs to market their talent as much as they possibly can.

Freddy P is pretty nasty. Think this is the first I’ve seen him pitch.

Didn’t see whatever play you’re talking about but not interested in a different play two days later. Mullins didn’t have time to be there if needed. He would have had to go full speed into a possible collision with his 2B who called it, seemingly had it, and the didn’t. Again, didn’t see the play in question but it sounds different to me. Frankly, you evaded the question 3 times and now days later have an answer using a different play as an example. Sounds sketchy but I’ll look for the play on the condensed or rewind if it’s available.
Same play, but this time he did go full speed…and made the catch when the IF botched it. As you are supposed to.
And I did answer. You just don’t like my answer. Todays play was a perfect example of what an OF should do on a pop up to shallow OF that an IF calls for.
-
@RZNJto answer your question from earlier in the week, that is precisely what an OF should do when an IF calls them off. Never assume IF has it. Assume they will miss it and be there if needed.
*out 3 in 1st inning.

Can all our games be on Apple?
This is such a better viewing experience than MASN.
Jinx haha

The picture is insane. MASN is complete garbage. I could get used to this.

When they first came out with the city connects, I hated them. Now that I've had some time to get used to them, I still hate them.
The hat is dope.

Not being from Baltimore, is it supposed to represent all of the different neighborhoods?
I do believe the actual design is a map of the neighborhoods.

Yeah I remember him as a player for the Rockies. I like him on Loud Outs as well.
He doesn’t take himself too seriously and gives pretty interesting inside views of player life. Will be interesting to see how he does this game. Does he call game for the Rockies?

What exactly does the rainbow color bands represent?
The funky and weird artsy culture of Baltimore city. Graffiti.

It is, yes.
Wow - did not expect him to look like that. I tend to like his commentary on the radio.

Did Joey Ortiz ever get to play in Camden Yards when he was up? It's quite a special night for him too facing his old team.
This should be a fun game.
Ortiz has done pretty well so far to start the season.

Is that “Spilly” from MLB network radio? I recognize his voice.

Maybe there will be a MILK promotion at the Yard one day for Cowser. Then down the road something for Coby and then there will be a MILK and MAYO promo. Can you taste it now? Mmm...mmm...good.
Hopefully early in the season and not the middle of summer. That could be bad.

Thats cool. I think I have to give the edge to Mullins defending right now. Cowser's a huge guy for CF too, listed at 220 lbs on Bbref, but if Judge can do it...
I agree - just curious to see the similarity. Imagine. Cowser has beat in wing span. And his arm is much stronger.

Sprint speed doesn't equal being good in CF. Mullins has great instincts and gets really good jumps on balls.
52 minutes ago, Malike said:Mullins has definitely lost a step and I'm not sure if he's just being cautious so he doesn't hurt his groin again or what, but he's special out there in CF on defense.
For sure. I thought it was interesting. I was surprised to see the numbers so close. It’s definitely a building block to being a good CF.
I’ve also noticed Mullins taking it easy. He’s been picking his spots to when he goes all out.

So far in 2024 they are both 27.6 ft/sec sprint speed
Colton Cowser Stats: Statcast, Visuals & Advanced Metrics | baseballsavant.com (mlb.com)
Cedric Mullins Stats: Statcast, Visuals & Advanced Metrics | baseballsavant.com (mlb.com)
Cowser has a very strong arm. With reps and experience he should be able to defend similarly to Mullins this year.

Stealing puts a lot of wear and tear on the body. So many things can go wrong and it's an incredibly long season. Keeping their bodies in best shape to perform is very challenging. I'd like to see them steal, but I think they need to pick their spots.
-
With him sitting 90-92 with fastball I’ve been waiting for the other show to fall, but you can’t argue with his performance to date. The guy exudes confidence.

Just because he hasn't gotten a hit and had some fun defensive plays doesn't mean he's pressing, nervous, any of that mental BS some of you like to put on these guys.
He's adjusting to playing Major League Baseball.
This.

No you bat your best hitter second. That is what all the analytics say. And I would love to see him hit second.
I like my best hitter getting the most ABs in a season. Especially one who is one of the fastest in baseball, an incredible baserunner, and an OBP machine.

Actually 796 OPS but he was put there when he went on the heater that got him the ROTY
As I said, it’s a combination of me believing he will be better batting second or third. He just doesn’t look great leading off games. It’s a small sample size, but I also backed it up with stats to date.
He’s the best hitter on the team and as such should get the most ABs on the season.
