  1. It just occurred to me that I don't have any Orioles on my fantasy team following the Machado and Schoop trades.
  2. Jeffrey Hammonds is 47 now. Wow. Wish I'd seen him play healthy. Glad I saw Harold Baines hit at all.
  3. Watching the Dodgers game. Manny's looked good tonight, reached all four times up.
  4. Don't want to post yet another Manny thread/poll, but I suspect some extra thanks might be owed Manny (for people who're into that). It's fair to argue that he should have been traded last winter, but he was also coming off a season in which he hit .259/.310/.471. This year he put himself on pace for career highs in almost every offensive category. How much better do people think a trade offer would have been last winter? Probably better, sure. But how much? This deal looks pretty good to me. Possibly great, all things considered.
  5. Which is only a few degrees removed from the player's on-field performance. I don't know. I agree with those who say it seems shady. Sure, broader market forces will help dictate future prices/earnings, but this seems bad.
  6. The problem is that we're all painfully aware of the Orioles' shortcomings. It's just that every other team in the division seems to be grappling with a significantly longer list of shortcomings. I still don't think the O's can handle a team like the A's or Angels in a long playoff series, but the path to the division title seems to be...clear? Eek?
  7. Unenviable OF picture for the Jays.
  8. Either way, it's just now sinking in for me that the O's were dithering over a bench spot for Reimold when the Blue Jays (i.e., the O's closest competitor) actually need the same player to start. Like...the O's are the midseason favorites to win the division. There's blood in the water. I don't know where I am.
  9. Like Young? Or Pearce? Hey, what about Hundley? (you didn't say the bat had to be good). Regardless, I hope the woe-is-Nolan commentary doesn't peter out when he's hitting .230 and/or injured by the middle of August.
  10. In 2012, Jason Hammel was 4-1 in his first six starts for the O's with a 2.11 ERA. From that point onward (i.e., including 12 starts before he got hurt) he was 4-5 with a 4.08 ERA. He was lousy last year, and not very good for most of his career apart from a chunk of a respectable 2012. Much like Ubaldo, Hammel's following a not-entirely-surprising trajectory thus far. If he keeps throwing gems, it's inarguable that the Cubs will have found themselves a bargain...but I'd be shocked if that turned out to be the case, and no one would have been able to predict such season from Hammel.
  11. I guess that's a notch below involuntary manslaughter, but I still wouldn't endorse his 12-step program.
  12. He's still put men on base in 7 out of 8 appearances this year. His only clean outing came in dominant fashion (albeit in a losing effort) against the Mariners (2 innings, 4 K's). I didn't see highlights from the two wins, but he gave up a hit and a walk in 2 innings against the Angels yesterday, and 1 hit in 1 inning against them the day before. No idea if those "winning" innings were buoyed by good luck, or if they're signs that Johnson's returning to (good) form. I don't generally wish him ill, so I'd be perfectly happy if he dominates everyone else in the league...so long as he loses his lunch if/when he faces the O's.
  13. If DD had topped the Astros' offer to Feldman, I think the board would have suffered a collective, nervous breakdown. Career best ERA of 3.86 last year, with ERAs over 5.00 in three of the last six years. Slightly below league average starter who's off to a hot start. Maybe this is his career year (if that's the case, Feldman's contract is interesting, since he's getting $12 million this year, $10 next year, and $8 in the final year), but I'm glad we spent big on Ubaldo instead.
  14. <p><p><p>Yeah, just taking a break. The way the season sort of (predictably) unraveled, coupled with work being hectic, made it seem like a good idea. I'll be ready for the onslaught of winter rumors, though <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue.png" alt=":P" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /></p></p></p>

  15. <p><p><p>These things happen on the internet. No worries, no worries.</p></p></p>

  16. <p><p><p>Dude...re-check the game thread to see the rest of the conversation. That wasn't how I intended the comments at all. Not even close. </p></p></p>

<p><p><p>I do feel bad that you took them that way, but I also don't think you're handling this very well. You could've PM'ed me before going for the neg-rep button. And notice I'm not doing the same.</p></p></p>

  17. That entire song has fewer than 70 unique words.
  18. <p><p><p>No worries at all - for one thing, I shouldn't have been so dismissive, for another...you certainly made relevant points, particularly in re: the double standard I was maintaining for Flaherty and Davis. I certainly wouldn't sneeze at Flaherty's becoming an everyday, productive player, so here's hoping I'm wrong!</p></p></p>

  19. <p><p><p>Hah...thanks. I mean...I literally couldn't think of anything else to do but voice shock. </p></p></p>

    <p><p><p>I walk a fine line sometimes in re: neg/rep worthy-posts...but that? Just shaking my head <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue.png" alt=":P" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /></p></p></p>

  20. <p><p><p>Shameless is front-to-back hysterical. His new(er) stuff is outstanding, as well - <a href="<a href="<a href="http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA" rel="external nofollow">http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA</a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA" rel="external nofollow">http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA</a></a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="<a href="http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA" rel="external nofollow">http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA</a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA" rel="external nofollow">http://www.sockshare.com/file/F1E5EA8E91FEF9FA</a></a></a> (Live at the Beacon Theater) and <a href="<a href="<a href="http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY" rel="external nofollow">http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY</a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY" rel="external nofollow">http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY</a></a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="<a href="http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY" rel="external nofollow">http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY</a>" rel="external nofollow"><a href="http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY" rel="external nofollow">http://www.putlocker.com/file/655XDMQXRTNY</a></a></a> (Hilarious).</p></p></p>

  21. <p><p><p>Anyway...that was my attempt. You're clearly neck-deep in a glass houses situation (pun semi-intended). Either you see it, or you don't. If you simply can't be consoled, and my "attitude" interferes with your overall enjoyment of the board, there is a "block" feature that you can (easily) use to ignore everything I post.</p></p></p>

  22. <p><p><p>1) It's the internet. Regardless of what I do/don't actually believe...do YOU think I can fairly claim to know anything about you based on internet postings? Does your internet grammar (and the "infraction" you received for said grammar) reflect how you speak in person? Do you assume strangers in public give a damn, one way or the other, regarding how you feel about their social behaviors (or any other issues related to personal comportment)? </p></p></p>

<p><p><p>2) You based your assessment on one topic/thread after having been a member of this site for a day. Again, disregarding whether I believe that I can actually, accurately assess your character through internet postings...how much credibility do you think you're owed given that you've demonstrated a willingness to both make snap judgments AND speak up about said judgments almost immediately upon their being formed?</p></p></p>

  23. <p><p><p>I'll take a step back and answer seriously (just this once): I've respond to you as I have because you apparently (truly, seriously) don't understand how ironic your messages are. That lack of understanding makes responding with anything resembling genuine, non-sarcastic (or non-disdainful) language completely unnecessary. As you kind of implied...I don't know you, don't have to work with you...Hell, I don't even have to worry about waving cordially in your direction when we pass one another on the street. I don't have to (nor do I want to) invest <em>any</em> energy in the cause of "making your day better (or even bearable)." If you're going to be so dense as to not see the hypocrisy inherent in your own statements/behavior, then...whatever, dude. That cookie offer's still on the table.</p></p></p>

  24. <p><p><p>Yes...I neg rep you in response to your (attempted, grey, inconsequential) negative repping, and I prove "your" point. </p></p></p>

<p><p><p>Clearly, your board inexperience is far-surpassed by your worldly wisdom and general brilliance. A thousand apologies, sir. Your scathing assessment has forever altered my perspective. </p></p></p>

<p><p><p>Hug it out? Or would you prefer a cookie?</p></p></p>
