  1. While I agree in principle, please clarify. What if my "best players" are C, SS, 2B, 8 OF and 15 P? How do I fill the rest of the roster? There are plenty of teams who keep a backup C and U infielder who may not be their "best" players How long is your window? What if I can extend that window by playing some service time games and keep my number 15 - 25 "best" players in the system a few more years.
  2. I'm sure that info is available on that thing they call the internet if you add "in the Verlander trade" to your post above.
  3. Thanks! I get that, I have my own criteria for an "elite" prospect. I'd like Can of Corn to go on record to what he defines as an "elite" prospect is, but unfortunately, he went to bed before he could tell us.
  4. typical Good night. Maybe you can put some thought to it in the morning and actually go on record because "top 100" (what year?, if someones 98 one year and 102 the next, do they still qualify?), "industry" (MLB execs? the different publications that rate them?, fans?), "high regard" (what's the quantitative method to figure this out?)
  5. Again, what's the definition of someone who is?
  6. Agree. I was going to say that maybe the As GM traded for him because he though he was an elite talent but I'm waiting for Can Of Corns definition of "elite"
  7. Give me the definition of "elite" as it applies to minor league baseball players.
  8. Typical that you take one part of a post to spin your BS. My pint was that a player doesn't stop trying to play at an elite level just because he isn't being promoted. He continues to perform to the best of his ability to either get promoted or traded......but you knew that
  9. Really? He hasn't traded any minor league players over the last couple of years?
  10. It has, but in the real world, you have the option to quit and go to another company. That's not an option for these players in the minors. The only way to the majors is playing better than those in front of you or getting traded to another "company" If I'm a minor league player, I'm not ok with it but it's not an issue in my "workplace" because I continue to play at an elite level to get promoted to MLB or traded to another organization.
  11. I'll continue to trust the group that won 101 to continue to make the best decisions, but my preference would be Bradish, Means, GRod, Gibson.
  12. Born in 69 so don't remember anything from 66-71, The disappointment in 79 and 82 are bad memories for a pre teen. My friends and I still can't stand Sister Sledge (as most can't) As far as 1983, I remember alot but for some reason Dan Ford and Boddicker stand out. I didn't like Ford when we traded for him but loved him by the end of 83. Really liked Boddickers rookie year (?) and how he performed in the world series. Probably why I was so hurt when they traded him (not that it wasn't good trade) But my most vivid memories/thoughts are: - I never thought of it as the Phillies, it was more Reds 2.0 -Rose, Morgan, Perez, etc - Cal's catch to end it...maybe because i've seen it 100 times over the years, but I remember it live - as a 14 year old, I thought it would always be like this.....I've worn my Orioles gear for 40 years and endured the ridicule but I'm excited for the current team
  13. as long as you ignore guys like Cole, Seager, etc
  14. Nice try and I agree with alot of what you posted but Beavis and Butthead will never change their minds

    Jorge Mateo

Just caught up on this thread and had a lot of good laughs - thanks Most of you are trying to fit what we have in the minors into our future team. I like mateo but have no clue if he'll be: our SS of the future, super utility, traded or a bust If we think he's serviceable at SS, maybe we trade some MI prospects for a Verlander (just looking at what Houston did) type TOR maybe we sign Correa and Mateo becomes the super utility and we also trade some MI prospects for a SP maybe we trade him for a high P prospect at the deadline maybe Mateo flames out and we need to keep all our prospects There are tons of possibilities going forward and NONE of us know for sure who will make up the next contending team. For now, I'm enjoying watching them be more competitive but not getting real attached to individual players (Grayson and Adley excluded) so Im not disappointed when they're traded or don't make it
