The O's are the 2 games out of the wild card  with 2 and a half month to go.   Nothing would move this team forward better than to be a pennant race and to make the playoffs.  It is invaluable experience for a young team.

So don't trade away key players at the deadline.  Instead add players from the minors to supplement the team for the rest for the season.

Trades can be made in the off season.

I agree with you. What do folks really think we’d be getting for the likes of Mancini, Lyles, and Santander anyway? Prospects have greatly increased in value in recent years at the trade deadline. Jorge Soler was flipped for Kasey Kalich at the deadline last year. That’s probably close to what we could expect for Mancini. Jon Lester for Lane Thomas might be a comp for Lyles. These are not the type of prospects are even likely to have an MLB career - we shouldn’t be sacrificing a playoff chance (even if it’s small) to add those types of players. Anyone advocating we sell at this point simply has not been paying attention to how overvalued prospects have become in the past few years.

Elias is focused on one goal, and that is making the Orioles an annual contender.

Now, if they can trade Santander, Lyles, Mancini, Lopez or Tate for players that make that goal more reachable, then I think we could see them dealt.

Not in 1000 years do I see Elias trading any of his young players for rentals to chase the Wild Card this year.

The Orioles are playing great and they're fun to watch. They're playing the best sustained baseball we've seen in a long time.

Saying that, they are not true contenders this year so whatever moves Elias needs to make the 2023 team and beyond better.

Rutschman is still getting his feet under him and it's doubtful our starting pitching is going to continue their great run, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'd love to see the Orioles move Odor for just about anything. while he's a good clubhouse guy and has had his moments, Vavra and Westburg are knocking hard at the door for playing time at 2B on the big league squad. Henderson may need some PAs by late August and Stowers is probably as ready as he's going to be (K's and all).

I think this offseason is going to be the real moves for Elias. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised if Elias made major moves at the trade deadline besides possibly moving Mancini or Santander.

You guys shouldn’t give up on this team, Tony. We started later this year, but it’s starting to feel like 2012. Orioles Magic is back baby!

Please no! Last thing I want to see is the Davies, Rodriguez, etc. deals repeated. We are 5 games under at the best point in our season, and it's not like we are some team that planned on competing this year, that put a lot of money into certain expectations this season, that is falling below them, we are still in a rebuild and have no need to force it.

Sellers all the way this season until at least next.

Do agree with this, though. And would probably add Mullins there.

Nobody is advocating we part with our good or even decent prospects. But the trade comp I’ve seen floated for Lyles is Andrew Cashner. Do we really need another Elio Prado or Noelberth Romero? At that rate, I’d just as well give those types up to get a 2nd Lyles type to give this team a fighting chance down the stretch.

5 games out of the WC.

5 out of the 3rd WC, 6 out from the 1st WC. I’ve seen it pointed out that there are other teams ahead of us for the 3rd WC, but the reality is that it’s tight on the other end too. We’re not chasing a single vulnerable playoff spot.

I think your other post is spot on by the way. We have some big promotion decisions coming up that could be a bigger help to the Orioles than trading for players.

We are 20 games out with 3 in our own division in front of us. If they buy a SP that has several years of control fine. But, they should still be looking to trade Trey, Santander, Tate, and Lopez is they get aggressive bidders.

And it would be foolish to chase the wild care….perhaps tempting for fans. I doubt Elias will cave to it.

The key there is “if they get aggressive bidders”. We have several long threads on who our trade bait, and I don’t think anyone there actually believes we’ll get substantial returns for those guys. We have the best farm system in baseball and don’t need to add a thousand C level prospects at this point. We’re now within 6 games of all 3 Wild Card spots and if not buy, should not be sabotaging our playoff chances for this year by trading everything not nailed down to add more guys to our 21-30 prospect range.

  6. I’m not talking crazy and suggesting to sell the farm that we finally just built. But this team has swagger and I want to see it continue to be more competitive over the remainder of this season. Give up Odor for a bag of balls and call up Vavra. Give up some spare pieces that we don’t see as part of the future and add a competent SP. If GrayRod makes it back this year and we’re still in contention, let him pitch in Baltimore. I’m not ready to give up on this team making a Wild Card push this year.
