Thanks, thought it was my eyes and need another transplant  That white on white during the day is impossible to read.  You can read the highlighted person up but I cant tell who is up next or what they did for the day ,etc.

2-0 when I go.I will also be asking for a piece of the MASN money.

I am also 2-0 this season and have won 4 in a row dating back to last season. 22-12 in my Orioles fan career now 😛

Anybody else keep track of all the games you’ve been to and your career record?

DeMatha boys seldom go to GTown. Big beef back in day between Wooten &  Thompson (Carroll grad).  Maybe that’s all done now.  Hoskins & Freeman are only two I can think of ever to go there and they didn’t play for Wooten.  GTown was a big no no for the Stags.

Hunter was on campus today. Hope Cooley can bury that hatchet. Gtown needs to keep the local boys home to get back to where they want to be.

Orioles showing a little moxie that has been missing here at OH.  Every win is a good one.  Getting back to .500 after an underwhelming showing in Boston is a good feel.

Orioles will need to get their pitching under control.  This team will be as successful as pitching allows.  Last night was a gusty performance and kudos all around.

I think Opening Day was gustier

Not really their fault when it comes to the WBC, in my opinion.  What are they going to do, play a bunch of guys who fled the country?

Honestly, the WBC is fun, but the criteria for who can play for a country are a joke.   Matt Harvey playing for Italy?

They are playing a bunch of guys who fled the country though. For the very first time they invited certain guys back. Others weren’t invited for various reason or, like Cionel Perez, wouldn’t accept an offer back even if they got one.

  5. Well everything sure has broken Cuba’s way since their 0-2 start. It now appears that they will end up winning Pool A, assuming Italy holds on to this 6-1 lead over The Kingdom is the Netherlands. This would be huge as it would mean avoiding Japan in the quarterfinals. Netherlands does have the bases loaded with no outs though.

I’m a happy man either way. Go 🇨🇺 and 🇺🇸

So if Cuba beats Taiwan and Italy beats the Netherlands, everyone is tied at 2-2.

    What happens then, run differential?

I believe it is runs allowed divided by innings played

Cuba is in good shape, having allowed the second least amount of runs behind Netherlands

  7. Italy losing to Panama leaves the door wide open for my Cubans to sneak into the quarterfinals if they can beat Taiwan tonight. Taiwan just beat the brakes off The Kingdom if the Netherlands though. Pool A is still wide open.

I agree.    As starved Orioles fans for such a long time, we get angsty about a 4th/5th starter doing his 60-pitch milestone away from Holt.

@Can_of_corn- was just joking about America's maybe 100th best pitcher starting Game 1, and the hope that 3 and 6 years out Grayson is its best.    I feel good esteemed elder Wainwright can handle the Brits in 2023.

Ah gotcha. I get defensive about the WBC lol. It is probably my favorite brand of baseball.

Adam Wainwright leading the charge against Great Britain not the perfect cup of tea?

For Grayson Rodriguez's sake, let's hope America's best pitchers don't get too fired up until after 2026 or 2029.

I hope Grayson gets the chance to play for his country if he so chooses. He’s just as likely to get hurt in spring training as he is in the WBC.

I know pitchers get babied more than any other athlete, but I wonder if fans of Messi’s club team wish he would just sit out the World Cup. Would that team dare encourage him not to play for Argentina?

I know that Kevin Goldstein, when he was still at FanGraphs, said in a chat that if Yuli Gurriel had come up in the MiLB/MLB system he would have been a no-doubt Hall of Famer, and while he may be biased due to being employed by the Astros at the same time they brought Gurriel on board, he doesn't seem to generally the type for that amount of hyperbole if he doesn't believe it.

Very possible. He has over 2500 hits and 350 homers in his career across all leagues. Keep in mind he was playing in 90 game cuban seasons for a long time

Thanks for the details, very interesting (and also depressing).

Very. Everything with Cuba is political.

  12. Maybe Yuli at second at his age would be a bit of a stretch but he's Cuban royalty so I had to include him lol. Now looking back there are many other options for the squad that I didn't even mention like Arozarena or Jorge Soler

I'm curious about Team Cuba and the requirements/rules on playing or the team. I kind of figured guys like Moncada and Robert, who have to defect in order to play in MLB, would be more or less blackballed from the team? I realize they're not playing on Cuban soil, so that has a significant effect on availability of players who have previously defected, but are they welcomed back to the national team with open arms every few years for the WBC?

(Realize you may not have all the answers to that O4L21, just something I was curious about).

Since a vast majority of the talent has left the island in recent years, they had no choice but to invite players back so that they could field a competitive team. However they had some stipulations. Nobody who left the national team during competition was invited. This includes guys like the Gurriels, our own Prieto, Yoelqui Cespedes, Oscar Colas and plenty others I can't think of off the top of my head lol. I'm also assuming they didn't invite anybody who has openly expressed negative opinions about the regime.

Maybe this poor performance will cause even more change and they'll field a better team next time around. Imagine the lineup they could have thrown out there.

    C- Grandal

    1B- Abreu

    2B- Yuli Gurriel

    3B- Moncada

    SS- Jose Iglesias, Aledmys Diaz

    LF- Lourdes Gurriel

    CF- Luis Robert

    RF- Adolis Garcia

    DH- Yordan Alvarez

They would be a bit thin with pitching compared to the top teams, but still might have enough to get far in a short tournament.

  14. Cuban here. This team has disappointed me greatly. Wayyyyyy past time to de-politicize baseball in Cuba and give the Cuban people the team they deserve to see. They could be one of the best teams in the tournament if they had their full arsenal.

Although Moncada and Robert have been pretty terrible so far in the 2 games.
