  1. He only goes for me possibly in a TOR deal
  2. And of course if Adam Frazier is signed again, people’s heads will explode lol
  3. It is interesting… the hoarding/holding of prospects certainly seems to be more Elias/Sig modus operandi.. very different than some. I do like it !! More flexible in every way but highly dependent on scouting and drafting at high hit rates I think the key is will the team be sold when Angelos passes and will that happen in time for the next part ..cause that is the only way the other part of the Elias Houston model works .. ie signing the core guys early to big extensions.
  4. I would certainly consider trade Santander, Urias and Mateo, O’hearn in any combination with prospects like Ortiz, Norby , Mayo to see what big or small return was possible this winter
  5. Maybe the surplus is what is used in a blockbuster trade for TOR controllable
  6. No matter how you cut it … at least one good infielder has to go .. you can’t have 8 for 3 spots or 5 for 1 spot with Gunnar, Jackson, Westburg as givens .. Urias, Mateo, Ortiz, Norby, Mayo
  7. If Henderson and Holliday are left side of infield and Westburg is 2b for next five years then either Urias, Mateo, Ortiz, Norby have zero use for us except 1 utility guy. Probably Urias is first option to trade due to cost. What do you do with Mayo?
  8. Exactly. For some, being “right” is far more important than facts. Maybe with a World Series championship trophy, some people will have to acknowledge that maybe the “well they could have done better with Scherzer “ talk was just nonsense lol And that maybe Mike Elias is not quite as dumb as they seem to think lol
  9. It was mentioned in another thread about the idea of trying Jack in closer role? Or even high leverage role. Intriguing as he did so last year https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnperrotto/2022/10/05/st-louis-cardinals-looking-for-important-outs-from-jack-flaherty-in-postseason/amp/
  10. I like the idea .. at least try and see .. He pitched out of pen just last year for St Louis “However, Flaherty showed he could adapt to a relief role Tuesday night. He entered the game in the seventh with the score 7-7 after the Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the inning to tie it. Pitching in a high-leverage situation, Flaherty kept the score even. After giving up a leadoff single to Ke’Bryan Hayes, Flaherty got Ben Gamel to ground into a double play. Flaherty then struck out Tyler Heineman to end the inning. Working in relief for just the fourth time in his career was no big deal for Flaherty. He says it also won’t be a big deal if being used out of the bullpen is his role for the postseason. “As a starter, (the) goal is to get in, throw strikes, get ahead, put up a zero,” Flaherty said. “No different than coming out as a starter trying to put up a shutdown inning after we put up some runs.” https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnperrotto/2022/10/05/st-louis-cardinals-looking-for-important-outs-from-jack-flaherty-in-postseason/amp/
  11. Five games up in loss column..we have two games more to play than Rays ..
  12. Great post … The most anxiety I have ever had as an Os fan was in 1969. Some argue they were the most dominant baseball team of the modern era .. 109 wins. That year, for the first time ever, due to expansion that year, divisions were created. Thus rather than going directly to the World Series, no , a best 3 of 5 playoff with Minnesota Twins. The first two games ever in division playoffs were excruciating and both went to extra innings .. in the first game, Mark Belanger actually homered , Tony Oliva then doubled and homered to put Twins ahead 3-2, Boog homered to tie it and in the 12th inning Paul Blair dropped down, on his own, a two out bunt that scored Belanger from third to win 4-3 The second game involved Dave McNally pitching an 11 inning complete game shutout (a ML record for a playoff or WS game that will never be broken) and Twins pitcher, Baltimore native, Dave Boswell pitching 10 2/3 inning of shutout baseball till a Curt Motton pinch hit single finally scored Boog with the winning run 1-0 in the 11th. The Orioles swept through the third game easily but those first two were the most nerve wracking games ever in my Os fan experience. And then there were the Mets.
  13. I swear, MLB has the absolute worst designed and most buggy apps I have ever seen. At least half the time when trying to watch minors with my overcharging MLB. TV app through their First Pass or whatever they are calling MiLB. tv then it just tells me to download the app (though it is already on my device) and doesn’t recognize my MLB. tV logon credentials. You go to chat support .. nothing .. grrr bunch of 12 year olds running everything
  14. Yes … agreed … on second thought i probably should have him 3rd and moving up
  15. Neither really in 8th or 9th … so the real issue is how often do our starters get us in the situation Hyde was in..where we have no better other options. My working BP trust list (right now and recently) 3 tiers of trust .. high, pretty good, not too high 1/2 Cano, Coulombe 3/4/5/6 Webb, Perez , Fuji , Hall 7/8 Krehbiel, Lopez Josh Hader would have looked so good lol
  16. As did our ancestors, the Browns who won their only title during that era. Still, quality of opposition varies for lots of reasons over the last 120 years and records by tradition are recorded and recognized nonetheless. I mean consider the AL Central “champion” lol But this record has no parallel in MLB my lifetime since late 50s .. a remarkable achievement!!
  17. Most consecutive series of 2+ games without being swept: 1942-44 Cardinals: 125 1903-05 Giants: 106 2022-pres. Orioles: 84 ** active streak extended w/LAA series 1922-24 Yankees: 83 No team since WW2 has come close to this Os record for not being swept we have six more regular season series which would take us to 90. Do not think postseason counted in this.
  18. Elias going to a President of operations position would not surprise me at all. Sadden me? Absolutely.
  19. Anything is possible, but I was in Memorial Stadium that last game of the 1982 season, Oct 3. We were 3 games behind and 4 game set against Brewers of course. And won 3, but then they beat Jim Palmer and we lost 5-2 and the division and no wild cards etc. Earl Weaver’s first retirement too.. amazing post on field spontaneously Of course, this is not a season ending series though very crucial. But if we are 3games up, them sweeping us 4 in a row at Camden would be a tip your cap deal.
