  1. Hays, Cowser, Kjerstad, Mayo, Mounty, O'Hearn, Westburg, and Stowers can compete for 1B/COF/DH ABs if Santander is traded. No need for a FA. I'll go on the record as saying I want him back next year for about 10M, but I would not give him a multi-year deal.
  2. Here are some1B/COF/DH FAs from last year and what they got guaranteed. Abreu - 58 Haniger - 43 Rizzo - 40 Bell - 33 Pederson - 20 Mancini - 14 JD Martinez - 10 They're not playing well. As a group, they're barely above replacement level this year. I think Tony should end up in the 35-40 range if he keeps this up, and I wish him the best of luck wherever that is because it won't be here.
  3. 8 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K tonight.
  4. August Update Lock Kjerstad - Nothing needs to be said here On the Bubble Pinto - 3.81 FIP as a SP in AA at age 22 is strong. Rom made it to AAA at age 22 last year to get protected, is 50 strong innings in AA enough for Pinto? Some say he has a reliever profile anyway, so maybe a team tries to stash him if he's unprotected. Handley - .250/.412/.425 in July. If he's as a good defender as advertised, he could be protected as a 3rd catcher. On the other hand, most teams only keep 2 catchers on the 40-man and Mike almost never keeps 3. Haskin - Out for the year with a hip injury. Could a team take him as a backup OF despite < 100 PAs in AAA? Brnovich and Brandon Young - They're back and have a chance to pitch their way on to the roster if they look good. Outside Looking In Wandisson Charles - He dominated AA and I got hyped, but he's walked 11 guys in 9 IP in Norfolk. Garrett Stallings - I like Stallings. I think he's a Spenser Watkins style depth starter. 4.59 FIP in AAA as a starter. - Things are getting fun now. I would protect Kjerstad, Pinto, and Handley if the season ended today, but I could see any of the bubble guys getting protected or left off. We'll have to see who makes a push over the next few weeks.
  5. If the Cubs aren't selling, the market is down to: 1. Snell 2. ERod 3. Flaherty 4. Lorenzen 5. Lugo 6. Hill 7. Clevinger Take Snell and Lugo out if the Padres decide not to sell. ERod might be too risky for Elias, since he can opt-in for 50M if he gets hurt. Flaherty and Lorenzen are the best bets for a starter, imo. Brent Suter is my guess for a reliever.
  6. I see the market right now as roughly: Montgomery Stroman Snell ERod Flaherty Lorenzen Lugo Hill Clevinger Did I miss anyone? Verlander has a lot of rumors too, but he's on a 2 year deal. Stroman might be off the market with the Cubs hot streak. I think any of 1-8 makes the Orioles better, to varying degrees.
  7. I'm personally proud. Manny is a HOFer and it was absolute pleasure to watch him come up and start contributing to the first playoff team in many years. He's the best Orioles since Moose left. I'll never forget throwing behind the runner at third, his insane defense early in his career, or the walk-off grand slam.
  8. Off the top of my head: Acuna, Franco, Carroll, Kirby, and Strider. I'd guess there are about 15 guys in baseball I'd trade Holliday for taking into account service time and our cheap ownership. Adley and Gunnar are two of them. It's a good time to be an Orioles fan.
  9. I would have said, “Wow, I guess Adam Frazier is mashing.”
  10. The first week of the season we (myself included) were celebrating Mounty laying off a bunch of sliders in the dirt. Then he lapsed back into hacking at them. I'm not optimistic that this will last.
  11. My take is Mike knows we need another starter down the stretch. They're throwing Grayson to the wolves in July to see if he can be that guy before the trade deadline. If he flounders, we'll make a trade for someone like Stroman. If Grayson looks dominant, they'll just trade for a reliever.
  12. Who would be favored between the As and the Tides right now in a 7 game series?
  13. He has a career 4.63 ERA, 4.69 FIP, 4.66 xFIP. To me, he's that guy until he proves otherwise over a large sample size. I like Dean a lot, but he's a 4th starter. Not someone I want starting in the wild card series. Means, Bradish, and Wells are guys I'd give the ball to, but I don't know how much we can count on them down the stretch. A proven vet with #2 stuff that has started 30+ games before and has postseason experience would be huge. Stroman, Montgomery, Giolito, and ERod all fit that mold.
  14. I disagree on both points. Stroman/Montgomery are a big step up from Kremer/Gibson. There's a big difference between a 3.5 ERA guy and a 4.5 ERA guy. We have no idea what we can expect from GRod/Means this fall. Same with Wells/Bradish who have never started 30+ times before like Stroman/Montgomery have. 2 years ago, I would have agreed that Giolito is the ace we need. But both Stroman and Montgomery have been at least as good as him since the beginning of last year. I'd be happy if we got him, but he's in the same tier as those two.
  15. Ramon played a great 3B today and came up huge in the 10th against a tough pitcher yesterday.
  16. Really nice outing by Irvin tonight. It would be huge if he can be a reliable 6 innings 3 runs guy the rest of the way. That's what Mike acquired him for.
  17. Thanks for posting, that's one of the best baseball videos I've ever seen.
  18. He's raking right now, love to see it! I'll check back in at the end of the month to see if he's keeping it up. Charles got shelled tonight in Norfolk.
  19. July Update Lock Heston Kjerstad: Nothing needs to be said here. Probably added this season Wandisson Charles: He's come out of nowhere. 2.95 FIP in Bowie, now 1.75 FIP in his first 3.1 IP in Norfolk. Need to step it up to get added Hudson Haskin: Tony's #18 prospect right now, but he's hurt again. .268/.368/.463 in AAA is okay, but he also struck out 36% of the time and had a .422 BABIP. He's a McKenna type, so I could see a team taking him. Jean Pinto: Tony's #21 prospect right now. Strong 50 IP with a 3.21 FIP in Aberdeen, but he's walked 5 guys in his first 5 innings in Bowie. He could get added with 50 strong innings in Bowie to finish the year. Maverick Handley: .252/.389/.301 in an injury prone Norfolk year is not good enough to get added unless his defense is transcendental. He needs to prove he's better than the Anthony Bembooms of the world. Notes My guy Easton Lucas made it to AAA but has an 8.23 FIP after 8 IP there. There will be plenty of space on the roster this offseason. There are more than 10 guys on the 40-man now who will not be here next year. If the deadline was today, I would protect Kjerstad, Haskin, and Charles. I'd leave off Pinto and Handley for now.
  20. Next inning is our shot. They have a strong closer, but no one good to pitch the 8th from what I can tell with Adley, Tony, and Gunnar coming up.
  21. DFAing Frazier today and seeing this lineup tomorrow would make me very happy.
  22. The Angels just outscored the Rockies 32-12 and lost the series.
