  1. Frazier is who he is, a 1-2 WAR player. I'm fine with acknowledging that he was a bad use of 8M for a team with a lot of talented infielders. But people acted like we had given 8M to a Brandon Fahey level scrub and he's not.

  2. May Update

    Locks:
    1. Jordan Westburg - [career .283/.365/.515 hitter in 504 AAA PAs]
    2. Heston Kjerstad - [.284/.392/.612 in AA]

    On the Bubble:
    3. Hudson Haskin - [hot start pre-injury: .391/.500/.652 in 56 PA in AAA, but with a .615 BABIP and 32.1% K]
    4. Maverick Handley - [.222/.407/.267 in 59 PAs in AAA]
    5. Jean Pinto - [2.50 ERA, 2.91 FIP in 18 IP in A+]

    Others notes on eligible guys:
    - I’m leaving Young, Brnovich, and Peek off until they pitch in games again.
    - Easton Lucas has a 1.59 ERA, 0.67 FIP, in just 5.2 IP in AA.
    - Xavier Moore has 8K in 3.2 IP in AA, but also has a 14.73 ERA
    - I can’t tell if Stiven Acevedo is eligible, but he’s had a decent start in Delmarva and is in Tony’s Top 30. Can’t imagine him being protected or drafted though, even if eligible.

If I had to pick today, I'd protect all 5, but the 3 bubble guys have more to prove.

  3. Bringing Hall, Stowers, and Ortiz up and down as needed is fine with me, but it's also a direct contradiction to Mike's "I bring them up to stay" spiel. I hope he's still working hard to swing a prospects for SP trade.

  4. It's worth noting that Druw Jones is off to a rough start this year. Jacob Berry and Elijah Green have been bad as well. Termarr Johnson looked strong last year, but only just played his first game this year yesterday due to injury (and is primarily a 2B already). Kumar Rocker has been strong in his first 2 professional outings.

Extremely early returns say Holliday was the right pick.

    AGREED WHOLEHEARTEDLY!

There will be no givens and we are not going to leapfrog anyone without making good/great decisions. And some come with risk and others will cost real money. Nothing will be handed to the Orioles and they are not going to be able avoid hard choices to get there.

    I disagree, I think he'll be back soon 🤣

He's never been a guy for me because he never had a major league out pitch for me.

However, it's a new year so I will give him a look again. It's hard to judge him so far since he's he's pitched twice at home, where the Bowie Baysox management embarrassingly refuses to add in a center field camera despite being a AA affiliate.

He's got a funky delivery and the announcer in his last start did mention he hit 94 on a fastball. Looks to me after watching a few innings that he's using a change and slider as well.

Once I get a centerfield angle and velocity info I'll be able to give a better report for this year.

Plusses for him includes that he pitches quickly, and attacks hitters.

Thanks Tony! Sounds like a #7-10 style spot starter like Spenser Watkins.

All this bodes well for the idea of letting Grayson Rodriguez stay in the Big Leagues because I think they're going to send a reliever down. The current rotation (from tomorrow's start) looks like this...

    Kremer

    Bradish

    Wells

    Gibson

    Rodriguez

Agreed, though I think Kremer is another bad start away from getting demoted as well.

  8. Yeah, I'm starting a Garrett Stallings thread. I think he's interesting. He's 25, was acquired in the Jose Iglesias trade.

His numbers last year were horrific in the first half, but in the 2nd half (July on), he got hot and had a 3.52 ERA, 3.53 FIP, 9 K/9, 1.83 BB/9 in 69 IP in AA.

In his 2 outings this year, he's picked up where he left off. 10 IP, 7 K, 0 BB, 1.80 ERA.

Maybe he's just an org guy on a heater, but maybe he's figured something out. Of course, I only scout the stat lines, so maybe Tony or someone else can give more perspective. Reports I've read suggest he's a control guy with underwhelming stuff.

i listened to the interview and she said, the reason Stowers doesn't get PAs against lefties is that it drives the OH nuts and Odor isn't here....

That's not what I heard. She clearly said Hyde was jealous of his hair.
