  1. Are you trying to throw the best lineup out there to get us 52 wins? Makes no sense. His value may never be higher. If we can get reasonable prospects for our non-ASGer then we go for it.
  2. Exactly. At first I thought it might be a pissed off husband after him, but those guys usually just grab a gun and do the job themselves. So far, this reeks of something nefarious. Anyhow, I think I'm judging at this point and it's too early to judge. Just gotta wait to see what transpires.Or it could just be Verizon wanting revenge for their phone...
  3. Correction....it was 400,000 DR Pesos which equates to $8000 USD.
  4. I heard that there is evidence that $8k was offered for a hit on the big guy. According to this report it was $400K. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/david-ortiz-s-suspected-gunman-arrested-video-shows-coordinated-attempt-n1016956 There were apparently two groups involved. One group was there for surveillance and they called in the second....the hitman on the motorcycle. I'm sure the story will change as more facts filter in, but everything seems to point to a sophisticated hit on Ortiz. It seems he may have made some bad choices in regards to post-baseball associates.
  5. Rosenthal on the MLB Network sure seems to think it may have happened.
  6. If this gets done there's going to be some very sloppy paperwork faxed into the league office in about 3 minutes.
  7. It's Crock Pot baseball. Let it stew and it will come out great.
  8. Maybe it's just because the O's are insanely active today, but this seems like a particularly crazy deadline 12th hour.
  9. Make fun of him...I dare you. Oh wait...they just did.
  10. Yes, very logical in my opinion. I already said ... Now you can choose to believe that it was the only time that he tried to improve his performance through absorption of a foreign substance, but I'm not going to be so naive. It was the only time that it was made public. Furthermore, I will repeat that I am not judging those guys, they were simply doing whatever it took to improve their careers. I'm just not going to walk through Cooperstown and pretend that the legends of the game didn't engage in such activities.
  11. I don't doubt for a minute that many of those legends in the HOF were using PEDs or were at the very least trying to use PEDs. They may not be PEDs like we know them today, but they were injecting and taking pills that they hoped would enhance their performance beyond natural levels. I'm not trying to judge those guys, but I find it slightly hypocritical that many modern players are labeled as cheaters or amoral when they are just continuing the tradition. The biggest difference though is that there is now a rule that does not allow the use of PEDs when there was no rule prior to the '60s? - I'm not certain when the rule was enacted by MLB, so feel free to correct me if that's wrong. https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12037385
  12. I can't edit my own post....that would be TWO options
  13. I can think of three options: a) Change the rules to give the umpire discretion to judge whether the batter/runner intentionally impedes a throw to first. However, this could create more chaos with umpires having to use their own judgement and fielders having to try and throw around runners. b) Add a second line (maybe dashed or yellow) from the right hand batter's box to first. Allow the right handed batter/runner to stay to the right side of the new line to avoid any interference calls. However, this could create more chaos with fielders having to throw around runners. I could see right-handed batters trying to drop bunts in fair territory on the right side of that line to force catchers to make the play and then throw around them on the way to first. As impossible as it is for righties to follow the rule by the book, it is also nearly as impossible to find a simple solution. I also can't see baseball making any changes to correct this unless one of these plays should cause the Yankees to lose a very high profile game.
  14. It's near-impossible for right-handed hitters to follow the rule by the book. However, without the rule, you risk batters intentionally putting their bodies in the field of play to block the throw. You could put a softball bag down at first. I would personally hate seeing that.
  15. This rule was totally unfair to Rob Dibble
  16. "Player identities are not known, but Quinn notes on Twitter that no major names are believed to be involved." It doesn't sound like we can expect any huge news out of this.
  17. Amusingly, ESPN dropped us down below the Yankees in the standings. I shouldn't have expected anything different - they probably just did it alphabetically
  18. Watching on MLB.tv and my internet stuttered at the very moment he hit it. I missed the whole thing. I may need therapy.
