  1. He had an EXTREMELY rough night. Didn't get out of the 4th. 3.2 IP, 11 hits, 5 runs (all earned), 2 walks, 3 strikes outs, 1 home run. Had 91 pitches in that time (!!!) and 57 were strikes. He exited after loading the bases. Very, VERY rough.
  2. Yep. For some reason, they gave Jesus Liranzo the start and only had him go 3. I guess after all the saves he blew and all the late inning struggles he had, they'd try him as a starter again and had Barker be the "second half," ala Miguel Castro was for Tanner Scott.
  3. He is mixing in a slider a bit more each time and is still working on it. He is also working on another pitch, but I forgot what it was. That has been the main reason for the schedule he is on. Give him guaranteed game time and then have him on a scheduled bullpen session(s) so he can continue to work on stuff. I firmly believe they will stick with this schedule this season and evaluate him over the winter/spring. That seems to be the reason he was one of the first cuts this spring.
  4. Was talking about Bowie. Though I'd rather he be used as a closer at Bowie than "let me see how many saves I can blow" Liranzo...
  5. *Cymbal crash* He's here all week, folks!
  6. He's been on the "start every 5th day for 3 innings and throw bullpen sessions to work on control and other pitches" to give him some consistency right now. If he was moved to the bullpen, he might not throw in a game for a week. I'd prefer he continues like this for the season and gets his work, then reevaluate it in the off season if he makes solid progress like he has.
  7. He was having trouble finding the zone. His breaking ball was biting really good though, but his fastball didn't seem to have much zip on it.
  8. He's certainly making a VERY strong case. He also touched 101 a few times.
  9. While I wish he would get longer outings, I can understand why they limit him. He will be a very good bullpen option if he can stay on track.
  10. It's also one that is coming off him taking time off for a family situation and this doesn't appear to be his normal routine (atleast, we all hope not.) Then again, he would fit right in with the starting rotation right now.
  11. Working on finding out. He was scheduled to start tomorrow.
  12. Unless something drastic happens, he will make that easily.
  13. He also touched 103 on the radar gun. No word on the over/under on the calibration. Even a +4 would still be 99!
  14. I wouldn't. He skipped Delmarva and didn't pitch much in Aberdeen. There is no real tape or report on him. Let him stay in Frederick for the season. Let him face the same teams 3 or 4 times and see if they figure him out. If he still has the same success all season, then Bowie next year. If he gets knocked around a little, then good. See how he bounces back.
  15. "Strain" is still a tear. I don't wish any ill will towards Price, but he will really need to be careful or he will make it worse and be out until 2020.
  16. Just kind of happened. I always liked baseball as a kid and one of the first games I was taken to (that I can actually remember) was a Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles game. Nolan Ryan was pitching for Texas... So, yes. I am a Rangers fan. But, the hometown team is the Orioles, so...I'll root for the Orioles when I go to the games. However, when Texas comes to town...
  17. He had 1 bad season, then missed a second due to his back getting repaired. Give him another season at the plate while fully repaired. If he hits, great. If not, turn him into Mychael Givens, by all means.
  18. So...Elam could play catcher for the Orioles? Ok, not my best comparison. But I'd be very cautious with a player that has 4 surgeries on the major parts that are essential to his position. With a very good arm, maybe he can help with some outfielding. I just wouldn't keep him as a catcher and break his body down even further.
  19. Honestly, I would not be surprised to see either of Perez/Pena traded just before or during Spring Training, especially if a veteran catcher is signed by Baltimore, to make room for Sisco. The main thing that concerns me about O'Connor is his injury history. 2 hip surgeries and 2 back surgeries already, for a catcher. If they do take a flyer on him, he could be like Zach Kapstein (traded from Red Sox as a catcher, was converted to outfield with Frederick due to injuries.)
  20. The main question would be, is there room for him? Not just on the 40, but in general. MLB: Whatever veteran they get (Weiters/Castillo/Hundley/Suzuki) and whoever they decide as back up (Joseph/Pena) AAA: Perez (if not traded), Sisco, whoever didn't win the back up job (if not traded) AA: Wynns, TBD until O'Brien comes back from suspension (possibly Chris Shaw) A+: Murphy, McLanahan
  21. From the games I've been to, it really seems like they encourage "pitch to contact."
