Evidently for the Os, the answer is to keep pitching to him and ignore reality.

Its showing up in the WAR. He's at 2.0. If he picks up offensively, its not out of the realm to see him get to 4.0 WAR by season's end.
One thing that kills me about Mateo is his inability bunt. If he could get his bunt game to where Mullins' is, I think he goes up another tick in value. Doesn't need to bunt all the time, but should shoot for 10 bunt hits a year.
Love it. Glad to prove the haters wrong.

Why in the world is Nevin still here with better options at Norfolk? Critical stretch, just strongly dislike the roster decisions here with him and Arauz remaining for the second half. Maddening.

This got me to thinking about the several threads last year lamenting that we DFA’d Josh Rogers. He’s currently sporting a 5.38 ERA, spent some time on the IL and is now completing a rehab assignment that it due to end in a few days.
Actually, what a few said, including me (and Tony I believe) is that he was coming off major injury and to see him released so soon was puzzling at best. Likely, not going to be an AS but what’s the harm in giving him more time when there weren’t many better options at the time. But I know you love to poke at me when you have insulted Mateo’s value time after time despite obvious huge upside/potential.
But hey, please continue mischaracterizing what people say and ignore your bad takes.

So you think they have pitchers rated higher on their board and are passing them up? That’s your actual belief?
Note: I don’t care about your rankings and the Orioles don’t care about Mayo’s rankings.
I am out man. I am tired of the aholes on here. Glad they got Holiday, hope the rest of the draft turns out well. RIP Weams and the few nice folks on here.

But you have time to post here all the time without first doing your simple research? Maybe a couple fewer posts and a bit more checking to make sure your posts are accurate may be in order. Just a thought....
I don’t know many of you, including you, but you sure all have a lot of courage behind a message board.

Pick #67 was a plan "B"???
Yeah a guy I know said they wanted the pitcher taken b4 him

So what you are actually saying is that they should not have gone BPA when you are in fact complaining that they didn’t go BPA.
Can you see how this is confusing to everyone?
I doubt they are going bpa, not sure why you think they are.

Google can be your friend, and can help you stop putting your foot in your mouth when you spout of things that are often so wrong. Yeah, everyone can have a different opinion, that's cool. But to say we avoided Jones because of his agent yet picked Holliday with the exact same agent that makes you look....let's just say foolish and uniformed.
Sorry I don’t have 24/7 to devote to OH research lol

You're aware that Holliday is also repped by Boras right? ok just checking
No, def didn’t know that. Family stuff yesterday. Thank you. Def alters things. I am not a fan of any of the picks after Holiday however. I think they needed to go pitching, pitching and more pitching.
This first pick today better be a pitcher! It also sounds like Fabian was their plan b.

You know who else is a Boras guy? HOLLIDAY!
You are assuming the Orioles board is the same as Callis’ board. That’s where your assumption is wrong.
I am wrong. I didn’t know that. Well, that’s positive.

Quick question. Do you know who Jackson Holliday's agent is?
Nope! I had family stuff all yesterday but would love to know Is it Boras?

Geez, Nelson. You're starting to sound like a broken record and it's a sad, sad song.
I apologize to Sports Guy for saying your posts might be troll like. I was wrong:)

I think it’s obvious they are going BPA, especially this year.
Huh? Why in the world do you think that? First off, they most likely passed on Jones because he is a Boras guy, they will likely pass on Porter at 2pm (we will see I guess). If they are going BPA as you say, I guess time will tell at 2pm.
Fabian they clearly are in love with for whatever reason, doesn't sound like BPA there.
..and....I don't think the other two guys were even remotely close to BPA. -

I’m just curious, what makes you say that Mateo looks geared to had a bigger 2nd half? He has been on an uptick the last 20 games or so (.822 OPS since June 25), but he could just as easily go up or down from here IMO, based on how his season has fluctuated. I certainly hope you are correct.
I don’t think criticizing a .610 OPS qualifies as “nitpicking.” I think he’s had a good season despite his OPS, but there’s no question that’s a bad number. I hope it improves in the second half.
They altered his stance and he has seen immediately improvement. Palmer has discussed this extensively on the telecasts.

Then they should have taken him. I guess the first 2 guys were higher on their board. I respect that if they truly went BPA.
We both know they think they are smarter than everyone else and bpa is not their strategy:) I am just thankful we got Holiday and not someone like Berry.

FYI: I apologize if this has been covered previously, but Brock Porter has the same "advisor" as Rocker (Boras) so highly unlikely we take Porter. MLB Network on XM just speculated a deal could have been setup with Boras to get Rocker/Porter as a combo.

Good morning. Been some time since posting.
have to wonder if the “success” with pitchers like Watkins, Voth, Perez, etc has the analytics department think they can continue to take waiver players and max their value? Take other teams higher round picks who are older, tweak them a little, trade them for competitive picks and then draft best player available.
Waiver wire adds for your SP staff likely won’t get you to the division series.

I don’t see us having saved enough from slot to be able to sign Porter.
Agreed on Porter, obviously would love to have him however.
After robo umps are implemented, Robo pitchers will make drafting pitching a thing of the past. OFers will be made into pitching cyborgs. The lower the batting average in college, the higher the spin rate. Pure genius!

Not going to lie. I usually don't get too upset with these picks since I know I don't have all the info they have, but it's getting to be a joke how many college outfielders Elias takes.
Not a fan of the Fabian pick at all. I don't are about the tools, if you can only hit .239 against college pitching you are going to struggle in the pros.
No pitchers is pretty damn disappointing.
Elias wanted Whisenhunt and miscalculated. But he “slashed”’ .239 as the Verve reports.

Elias is so far ahead of everyone in mlb with his genius. He realizes that where the future of baseball is, pitching doesn’t exist. Genius!

Wagner began the year on Clemson's bench and ended it with 27 home runs, third in NCAA. He is a draft-eligible sophomore with very little track record of performance, aside from his amazing 2022 sprint, during which he hit .369/.496/.852. Look under the hood and there is a little more swing and miss than average, both in terms of his strikeout rate (for a prospect, not compared to the average college hitter) and underlying swinging strikes. Things aren't in a red flag area so much as it's clear Wagner isn't actually a .380 hitter. This is mostly how Wagner's entire skill set reads. Aside from his plus arm, his tools are all about average. His swing is gorgeous and well-timed but he does tend to swing inside of sliders, and he does almost all of his damage to his pull-side. Wagner still has some "tip of the iceberg" characteristics, as he's young for the class, he hasn't played all that much, and he hails from a cold-weather state and entered college ball with less high-level experience than most of his peers. If you want to project on his hit tool based on his background, then he has a puncher's chance to be a well-rounded regular.

Did you read what he said???What he said at any age, is unacceptable and rooted in hatred. Hard stop. Not all “edgy” tweets are the same and your response tells me all I need to know about you as a human being.
