Why would you hard pass on a trade of Santander, who's 27 and has never had a 2-win season, for a pretty good starting pitcher with a big K rate?  Snell is only making $10M a year, which doesn't buy you much in free agency.  Stowers could likely come to the majors today and be about as good as Santander.

I am not allowed to explain my opinion more than once or Frobby gets upset, sorry. Check my previous posts.

He wouldn’t at this point. I’d argue he has top 15 upside based on his old profile, but I think that’s very low probability, especially this year.

    Thank you Sir.

No, I’m not being hyperbolic.   Hyde said “any offense we get from Mateo is gravy,” and that’s not true.  There is a level of offense he has to provide to justify playing him, even though he’s a very good defender.

Don’t get me wrong, Mateo is hitting well enough to justify keeping him in the lineup.   But there’s a level of production south of where he is now where that wouldn’t be the case.  And, I’d be happier if he was hitting a little better.  He’s had an .836 OPS since June 25 (16 games, 14 starts), so hopefully his offense will remain on the upswing.

You really dislike my boy Mateo:) I get tired of you posting about it:)  it gets so old!:)

Palmer said last night, if he could hit .230, that’s all they need. I agree. He looks much much better as of late. Fingers crossed! Huge fan.

Found it interesting in here it says that the Orioles would not be willing to do Snell for Santander straight up.  Seems like most people around here have been thinking the Padres turn that down.

I wouldn’t do that deal. But I guess I am in the minority it sounds like?

I heard from someone that we could be after Oakland pitchers.  Not sure anyone else is worth it outside of Montas.

    Blackburn?  Maybe??

Woukd think Montas would be expensive (trade wise) and he has some shoulder inflammation, so not sure he would be the best target.

Interesting. Look at how many innings Cole Irvin pitched last year…

Kjerstad not making his debut at Aberdeen tonight.  Game rained out.  A storm came through and actually did some damage to teh stadium.  At least two trees were sheared from their base and laid flat in the parking lot, and there was hail on the field and a bent fence in right field.

Pretty bad damage everywhere! Nasty storm!

    Round A (picks 33-39), or Round B (67-74)?

For what it’s, worth, 50% of players picked 33-39 have reached the majors the average value of a 33-39 pick is 3.3 rWAR.   41% of players picked 67-74 have reached the majors, and the average pick in that range is worth 2.6 rWAR.

Logic tells you that Trey Mancini is not going to be worth 2.6 rWAR in the final two months of 2022.    Therefore, yes you’d trade him for the comp pick regardless of whether it’s Round A or B, unless you think there’s a significant chance that he helps to get the O’s to the playoffs this year.

Nice research! Agree, doubt we get that but you know Elias would pull the trigger on that deal.
