The trade would have made sense. Both players UFA's after the season. Marlins needed some bats in the lineup. We had backlog of players to fill the RF/DH role.
Not quite the same as moving a 24 yo starter who is performing well at AAA
Not many starters pitch 6 innings a game these days much less 9. However, it would seem likely that there would always be at least one successful starter that would get more votes than a reliever because the starter would have 3x the chances. It is always a good discussion when a dominant reliever is considered for Cy Young. Really, a GG seems more difficult to win.
I don’t think I could watch the games at all if I worried like Roy does. To each his own I guess. I’m just enjoying the ride, the twists and turns. And I’m happy to see Means rejoin the team. You could argue that no single recent player deserves to be a part of the winning version of this organization more than John Means. Mullins and Hays and Santa are with him, but they’ve been here the whole time.
Came up huge for us in Cleveland late last year. I think he’s going to pitch well, and I think by the end of the year he’s being to be a Montgomery-esque bulldog in our rotation heading into the playoffs. Imagine Peak Means as our third or even fourth guy in a playoff series. That would really be something.
