  1. I didn’t know there was a Silver Slugger Award for pitchers. I correctly answered with a certain Silver Slugger 1B who once pitched a couple of innings to an ERA of 0.00. That answer was more popular than the one @SteveA gave, amazingly enough.
  2. Of course, I was one of the few posters who had big reservations about trading Eduardo Rodriguez (who was having a mildly down year in AA) for Andrew Miller (who was having a great year for Boston). So of course I’m not going to like trading Povich (who is tearing up AAA) for Scott (who has upside but is having a down year for Miami). Generally, I’m not a fan of trading 6 years of a potentially good starting pitcher for one partial year of a reliever. I’m not saying I’d never do it, but it would take a lot of convincing, especially since our org isn’t chock full of good starting pitcher prospects.
  3. I’ve noticed that Hyde has a quicker hook with Irvin than he does with some other pitchers, even when Irvin is pitching well. He must think Irvin is a guy who’s prone to quickly losing it if he command begins to waver.
  4. I’d enjoy it if someone would bump this every time Cedric goes hot or cold over a 162-game season and declare victory! We’re 20% of the way through the season. He’ll probably go hot and cold at least 10 more times.
  5. Nor was Earl in 1985-86, I guess.
  6. Where would you put him? I’d like to see what happens the next 4-6 weeks, but I could see a case for top four if he continues to dominate in AAA. Tony has him 6th in the power rankings with Kjerstad and Beavers in the 4/5 spots. I’m not ready to put Povich above those two, but it’s not a ridiculous position.
  7. It always amazes me when someone derides a poster for not posting very often.
  8. Didn’t know that Bradish and Means would open the year on the DL. I assumed that Irvin and Wells would be battling to be the first guy inserted into the rotation in case of injury.
  9. Since Cal’s streak, only one player has played more than 555 straight games. That was Miguel Tejada, whose streak of 1,152 ended in 2007 while with the O’s when he broke his hand.
  10. That’s exactly what he did in his first start back last year.
  11. Roch doesn’t think so. “Chris Davis and Matt Wieters should be the next inductees in the club’s HOF. They must have received serious consideration this year.” https://www.masnsports.com/blog/everything-that-happened-with-the-orioles-before-they-could-take-the-field Obviously the big Davis contract was a disaster, but he does hold the single-season Oriole record for homers and is 6th on their all-time homers list. He finished 3rd in the MVP voting that one year. So, it wouldn’t be egregious if he got in. I don’t know that it will happen that quickly, however. Wieters is a lot less controversial than Davis.
  12. Well, I’d argue that last year was the one where he miraculously put it all together. So getting him back to where he was last year is a long shot. I don’t watch Marlins games, so I have no idea why he regressed so badly this year. I’ll leave it to the pro scouts to determine if it’s something easily fixed, but I tend to doubt it. And it’s not like we have room in our bullpen for a project right now.
  13. I think today we’ll see Suarez in long relief after Means.
  14. I have no idea, really. I would point out that in his second to last rehab start, he allowed some very cheap runs on hits that were under 75 mph off the bat. He pitched much better in that game than the box score suggests. And the Reds aren’t exactly Murderers’ Row. So, I’m hoping for a start that gives us a chance to win.
