  1. I like Baker's stuff a bit, but I don't see them giving him the role to to start the year. I think he's got an excellent chance to make the bullpen though.
  2. This is where we will track significant activity throughout spring training. This will be updated with cuts and additional players acquired throughout the spring. Pitchers Starters 1. John Means 3/14 - Comes into camp as the clear #1 starter 3/22 - Tossed two shutout innings then totally lost his command when he got tired in the 3rd getting hammered. 3/27 - Allowed just one run over 3 IP with 4 K. (6.00) 4/2 - Allowed just a hit through 4.2 IP. Struck out just one but no BB. (3.60) 2. Jordan Lyles 3/14 - The only other starter besides Means to have a spot in the rotation barring injury. 3/27 - Made his debut and allowed one run over 3 IP on 4 hits and walk with 4 K. (3.00) 4/1 - Allowed two ER on 4 H over 5 IP. (3.38) Bruce Zimmermann 3/14 - Comes into camp as a leading candidate for the rotation. 3/24 - Allowed 3 ER on two hits and walk but both hits were homeruns. Did strike out 4 in his 2 IP. 3/30 - Allowed just an unearned run on one hit and two Ks over 3 IP. (5.40) 4/4 - Allowed 4 ER on 5 H and 1 BB in 3 IP. (6.94) Zac Lowther 3/14 - Pitches well in September last year for the most part in the rotation but needs a good spring to make the club. 3/24 - Allowed just a hit and walk with 2 K in his 2 IP of work. 4/4 - Allowed 4 ER on 4 hits and 4 BB in just 2.1 IP. (8.31) Tyler Wells 3/14 - Rule 5 pick spent all of 2021 in relief, but will get stretched out and could end up a Piggy back starter 3/21 - Pitched two scoreless innings with two K's in a start. 3/26 - Allowed 1 ER on 4 hits and a walk with 3 K in 2.2 IP. (1.93) Keegan Akin 3/14 - Had a disappointing rookie year and needs to throw well to end up in rotation. May be better suited for pen. 3/21 - Came in relief, walked three and allowed a home run before getting pulled after just .2 IP. 3/26 - Another poor outing allowing 3 ER on 3 H and 2 BB in just 1.2 IP. (15.43) Dean Kremer 3/14 - Very disappointing rookie year saw him take major steps backwards. Needs a great spring to make club. 3/22 - Allowed 1 ER in 2 IP on 3 H with 2 K. His fastball was 93.6 MPH and touched 95.5. His curveball was 4.3 MPH harder than last year with 19 inch less vertical break with a 209 RPM better spin rate. He threw 9 cutters, 8 change ups and 7 curveballs. 3/28 - Struck out 5, but allowed 3 ER on 5 H including 2 HR in 3 IP. Did hit 95 on his fastball and homers came off cutters. 4/3 - Facing a major league Twins lineup, was hit hard in his last start of the spring allowing 4 ER on 7 H and 3 BB in 4 IP. Had 7 hard hit balls hit against him. (8.00) Mike Baumann 3/14 - Finished fairly strong in AAA but showed poorly in his September call up. Needs to refind his 2019 arm strength. 3/23 - The good news his arm strength is back as his fastball overegged 96.5 MPH and topped 98.5. The bad news is he allowed 4 ER on 6 H including 2 HR. Did have a 44 WHIFF % on his slider which showed more depth. 4/3 - Pitched the last 2.1 innings allowing just a walk with 2 Ks while sitting 96-98 MPH. Used his curve more than any other offspeed. (8.31) Chris Ellis (NR) 3/16 - Signed a minor league contract w/ spring invite. Could put himself in the running for a long relief or even 5th starter. 3/25 - Allowed 4 ER on 3 H and 2 BB in just 1.2 IP in a start. 3/30 - Stretched out to 3IP but allowed 4 R, 3 ER on 5 hits including a homer with 2 K. (13.50) Spenser Watkins (NR) 3/14 - Depth guy who the league caught up to after a few good starts. Ticketed for AAA or long relief at best. 3/18 - Started the spring opener allowing six runs, three earned in 2.2 innings (27.00). 4/4- Allowed one ER in 3 IP to end his spring. (6.35) Alexander Wells 3/14 - Made his major league debut and had some decent starts, but overall struggled. Pitched well in AAA after slow start. 3/23 - Allowed three runs on five hits in 2 IP. 3/29 - Was optioned to AAA. (CUT) Grayson Rodriguez (NR) 3/14 - #1 pitching prospect in the organization is probably set to start 2022 in AAA, but should make his debut this season. 3/21 = Pitched a scoreless 1st but struggled in his second inning allowing 4 ER before being taken out. Disappointing. 3/28 - Optioned to the minors and should start the year in AAA. (CUT) Kyle Bradish 3/14 - Finished the year strong in AAA and is certainly a candidate to make the rotation with a good spring. 3/23 - Allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 2 in 2 shutout IP. 3/29 - Needed 52 pitch to get through two IP. Allowed two hits and two walks but did not allow a run. Was optioned after the game. (CUT) D.L. Hall 3/14 - The other top pitching prospect, he needs to stay healthy, but is ticketed back to the minors. 3/28 - Made his debut and tossed a perfect inning, striking out two. Averaged 99.1 MPH on his fastball and hi 100 MPH. Was optioned after the game. (CUT) Relievers 1. Dillon Tate 3/14 - Have to imagine he has a spot in the bullpen even though he still hasn't found that consistency. 3/20 - Looked sharp in his debut tossing a hitless inning with one K. 3/23 - Averaged just 94 MPH on his fastball but showed a better moving slider in his 1 shutout IP. 3/26- Allowed just one hit in a scoreless IP with a K. (0.00) 2. Jorge López 3/14 - Stuff played up when he was moved to the pen at the end of last year and could end up the closer at some point. 3/19 - Went 1.2 IP hitless innings. 3/22 - Pitched just one inning and hit 98.6 MPH on a sinker and averaged 97.5. Pitching one inning in the 4th inning of a game is usually when you give your closers innings in spring training. He allowed a solo homer though. 3/25 - Pitched a shutout inning but then allowed three ER in his second inning of work. (8.31) 3/30 - Allowed a run on one on a walk and hit in 1 IP. (8.44) 4/1 - Tossed a shutout IP. (7.11) 3. Cionel Pérez 3/14 - Left-hander with a great arm but similar to Scott, still trying to find his command. 3/20 - Allowed one hit but struck out one in his 1 IP. 3/23 - Struck out two while averaging 95.5 MPH in his fastball. 3/26 - Walked one but not hit hits or runs. (0.00) 3/28 - Pretty much has made the team at this point with another shutout inning of work w/2Ks. (0.00) Felix Bautista 3/14 - Big hulking right-hander sits in the high 90s and will hit triple digits. Has a good chance of starting season with Orioles. 3/19 - Struck out two of the four batters he faced, walking one in his one IP. 3/22 - Took him just 10 pitches to strike out two and get another out in a perfect IP. Averaged 96.6 MPH on his fastball which meant he didn't even have his best velocity but still got a 43% WHIFF rate on the pitch. 3/27- Threw a bullpen session this morning after being sidelined for a few days by a minor medical issue. 3/30- Tossed another hitless inning allowing a walk while striking out 2 in 1 IP. Pitched in the 4th inning. (0.00) 4/3 - 1st poor outing of the spring allowing 2 ER on 3 BB and the first two hits against him this spring in just .2 IP. Still hada 50% WHIF rate on his pitches so it was more about command. Hit 99.6 MPH. (4.91) Bryan Baker 3/14 - Waiver pickup who dominated AAA last year will get every opportunity to win a spot. 3/21 - Pitched a perfect 9th striking out 2 for save. 4/3 - Allowed an ER in his one inning of work. (2.25) Paul Fry 3/14 - Literally had Steve Blass syndrome and lost the ability to throw strikes last year. O's will give him one last chance. 3/20 - Made his spring debut and allowed two singles but no runs a no walks in 1 IP. 3/24 - Struck out the side while allowing just one walk over 1 IP. (0.00) Joey Krehbiel 3/14 - Another waiver wire picker who will get his shot, but he's also a DFA candidate if they need 40-man roster room. 3/21 - Disastrous outing allowing 3 ER on 4 hits (including a HR) and a walk while getting just one out. 3/25 - Struck out three while allowing one ER in 2 IP. (15.43) 3/30 - Struck out the side in the 9th. (10.80) 4/4 - Allowed o ER in .2 IP. (7.20) Tanner Scott 3/14 - Mr. Inconsistent would have to pitch his way off the club but hard to imagine he won't be in the pen. 3/18 - Typical Scott inning in his debut, walked two, struck out one. 3/22 - Statcast reports he threw 20 cutters in his 22 pitches. Don't know if it was a mistake in classification but says he averaged 89 MPH and touched 96.3. Not sure what to think but he allowed two runs on two walks and two hits before getting pulled after .2 IP. If he's trying something new, it didn't work well. 3/24 - Allowed one run on two hits in 1 IP. (10.13) 4/3 - Traded to Marlins (TRADED) Cole Sulser 3/14 - Whether he's the closer or not is up for debate, but he's going to be in the bullpen barring an injury 3/21 - Couldn't get through his first spring outing, walking two and hitting his pitch count after just .2 IP. 4/3 - Traded to Marlins (TRADED) Rico Garcia (NR) 3/14 - Short right-hander with a 95-96 MPH fastball, good changeup and a curve. Probably ticketed for AAA depth. 3/26- Recovering from Tommy John Surgery (injured) Isaac Mattson 3/14 - A poor year last year makes his hold on a 40-man spot very tenuous. 3/15 - Is out for a month with a sore shoulder. (injured) Connor Greene 3/14 - Signed to minor league contract. Hard throwing right-hander needs to find consistency but should be decent AAA depth. 3/26 - Finally got into a game finishing off the 8th with .2 IP. 3/29 - Allowed four ER in 3 H and 2 BB in .2 IP. Still trying to throw 5 pitches in one inning of work. 3/30 - Reassigned to minor league camp. (CUT) Cody Sedlock (NR) 3/14 - Former 1st round pick has one of the best changeups in the system, but little other consistent weapons. 3/19 - Tossed a scoreless 9th, striking out one and giving up one hit. 3/22 - Cleaned up the Means 3rd inning getting two outs without allowed a hit. Threw 53.8% changeups which is his best pitch. Averaged 91.8 on his two fastballs and threw 3 cutters. changeup/cutter guy now? 3/24 - Allowed a hit and a walk in a shutout 9th. (0.00) 3/28 - Sent back to minor leagues. (CUT) Logan Gillaspie 3/14 - Surprise add to the 40-man, Gillaspie has a good arm but is very inconsistent. 3/19 - Tossed a hitless inning with one K in the 8th inning. 3/22 - Allowed a run on a hit and walk in one IP. AVG 93.5 on his fastball and got no WHIFs on his 13 pitches. 3/25 - Allowed one ER in 1 IP. (6.00) 3/28 - Optioned to Bowie. (CUT) Nick Vespi (NR) 3/14 - Left-hander with the big breaking ball can be tough to hit. Pitched well down stretch in AAA and could see majors. 3/18 - Pitched a perfect 8th inning. 3/21 - Tossed a perfect 6th inning. If he starts pitching earlier in game he could be in running for BP job. 3/25 - Finished off an inning after Zimmermann reached his pitch limit. It's not a good sign for him making the team to not have his own inning. Struck out the only batter he faced. (0.00) 3/29 - Made a good impression but sent back to minor league camp to prepare for the season. (CUT) Kevin Smith 3/14 - Struggled mightily in AAA as a starter but may be a better fit as a Paul Fry-like left-handed reliever. 3/26 - Got into his only appearance of spring so far with a scoreless 9th. 3/29 - Optioned to AAA. (CUT) Marcus Diplan 3/20 - Struck out the side in the 8th inning against minor leaguers. 3/24 - Tossed a shutout 9th against minor leaguers. (0.00) 3/26 - Moved up to pitch in 5th and allowed a home run. (3.86) 3/28 - Sent to the minors. (CUT) Ofelky Peralta (NR) 3/14 - Hard throwing RHP could be a guy in relief, but command problems and lack of swing and miss pitch hold him back. 3/20 - Allowed a hit, and walked two to load the bases, but escaped the jam to allow no runs in his 1 IP in the 9th. 3/22 - Reassigned to minor league camp. He's to hoping they put him in the bullpen there. (CUT) Denyi Reyes (NR) 3/14 - Former Red Sox farm hand with good arm, but ticketed back to minors 3/20 - Started the game but knocked around by Red Sox regulars for three runs in 2.2 IP. 3/22 - Reassigned to minor league camp. (CUT) Blaine Knight (NR) 3/14 - A surprise invite, Knight has a good arm but definitely struggled in his AAA in 2021. Heading back to AAA. 3/19 - Went 1.1 IP, striking out three and walking one. 3/22 - Reassigned to minor league camp. (CUT) Catchers Robinson Chirinos 3/14 - Officially signed to a $900k, one year contract. Should be a solid back up catcher to Rutschman. 3/23 - Went 0-for-2 and has no hits this spring yet. (.000/.000) 4/3 - Went 0-for-2 but will start on opening day. (.154/.775) Jacob Nottingham (NR) 3/14 - Will need an injury or the Orioles playing service manipulation games with Rutschman to win a spot 3/16 - Could very well see opening day with the Orioles now that Rutschman went down with an injury. 3/19 - Went 1-for-1 with a double. 3/28 - Went 0-for-3 as a DH. (.308/.742) Anthony Bemboom (NR) 3/14 - Depth to Nottingham, he'll be heading to AAA 3/18 - Started at C going 1-for-2, caught the only runner that attempted to steal but made an error on a throw. 3/20 - Smacked a double in his only PA. (.500/1.000) Adley Rutschman (NR) 3/14 - #1 ppropect in all of baseball, this 24-year old should be the Orioles everyday catcher 3/16 - Has a strained right triceps and is shut down 2-3 weeks ruining any chance of him being on the opening day roster. 3. I imagine it refers to what they did in the minors last year. The starter gets 5 innings or 80 pitches then they bring in the piggy back starter to try and finish the rest of the game if possible, though I imagine the Orioles would use a setup and a closet to finish off close games.
  4. So I got some information on Wells. It appears the plan right now is to stretch him out. They are loooking at him more as a long relief/piggy back type thing than a pure starter. So the Orioles may be going to more of a piggy back approach this year with their young pitchers.
  5. When Elias drafted him in the Rule 5 draft it was because he thought he had starter's stuff. Now, could the fact that they had to shut him down due to shoulder inflammation be a reason to keep him in the pen, that's a good question. But, he's got a starter's repertoire so if the Orioles think he can hold up, I think they give him a shot.
  6. Always gotta look for that check mark!
  7. I heard he looked good stuff wise in the intrasquad game, but was not surprisingly still feeling out his command. The fact that he started that game against upper level prospects tells me they think pretty high of him and more importantly, it shows that he's totally healthy. I expect him to start at Delmarva.
  8. There is reliever risk because we really haven't seen him extended out to 100 pitches on a consistent basis and the command still has some questions. BUT, stuff wise, he has four plus pitches and can be unhittable when he's on.
  9. Even if you don't like him, it's only a 1-year deal. Considering that the rotation was Means and everyone else, I don't think it's a terrible signing. His stuff is not that bad when you look at the movement of his four seamer, curveball and slider. He just makes too many mistakes in the middle of the plate. Either way, if he can eat 180 innings and provide an ERA around 5.00, he'll be useful.
  10. Yep, you're right. So much for counting on my fingers! lol.. Either way, the point remains. Either way, think he's traded or signed long term before the Orioles let him walk as a FA.
  11. No, he will play through his 30 year, he will available in his 31st year.
  12. I said this in another thread but I'll repeat it here. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out, but I think Rutschman starts on opening day for the Orioles for several reasons. He's the #1 prospect in baseball and has already performed well in AAA. He's 24-years old and a catcher which means he won't be eligible for free agency until he'll be playing in 30 old season and for a catcher, that could be very, very old. Also, there is no legitimate option to be the starting catcher on the roster so even if the Orioles tried one of those Mountcastle starts to gain an extra year, it just really doesn't make sense in this situation.
  13. Carter Baumler started today's intersquad game. Gotta imagine he's heading to Delmarva to start the season if he stays healthy.
  14. Gunnar Henderson started at SS and knocked in a pair while going 2-for-2.
  15. Very interesting that a top "CF" prospect would start in RF vs CF before moving to CF in the first game. Never read too much into things like this, but interesting non the less.
  16. Things should start falling into place very, very soon. Pitchers in particular know getting late starts hurt them. I cold see a lot of one-year deals in order for them to become a free agent next year in a full offseason.
  17. Let's post all videos and information found on the orioles spring trianing in this thread. Here's Conner Norby getting blown away by Grayson. Don't worry Connor. He's going to do that to a lot of hitters this year.
  18. He told me he's not being sent, at least as of last weekend.
  19. Yeah, most of mine were seen while I was in the Army. I saw some different minor league stadiums as well. Fayetteville, Durham, El Paso, Lancaster along with Atlanta Fulton, Miami (Old Joe Robby Stadium), Old Cominsky (upper deck with some small seats) for old major league stadiums!
  20. Unless they sign Correa, which I still don't see happening, I think they very well intend to go with those three guys up the middle this year. The first legitimate SS prospect to reach the Orioles out of the system will probably be either Westburg or Ortiz, though Henderson could break out this year in AA and be in the conversation. I don't think their timelines are more towards 2023 though so this could be a bridge year up the middle.
