  1. Fun watch no doubt. I really liked how Mancini was helping Phillips from a hitters stand point and Adley's interactions with him is so genuine.
  2. I like Pop a bit as well as we had him as the #23 prospect after the 2019 season. Saying that, I just don't see them stashing Pop anywhere and if he's injured, he's probably coming back. By Pop's own words he was ready to pitch last summer so it should have nothing to do with his TJ surgery back in 2019. As for trading for him, lots of teams have done that during the Rule 5 draft and the player to be named later is usually a Jack Zoellner type or ends up "future considerations." We'll see I guess, but if I were a betting man, Pop will be back returned to the Orioles organization at some point.
  3. My hope was that Zimmermann would get a rotation spot along with Akin and Kremer and Means. His velocity is back up to where it was last spring and the slider has been pretty good. The change was a little firm yesterday, but he's not giving up a ton of hard contact. Kremer gave up harder contact for sure yesterday. All I can say is that Zimmermann is well in this picture for a rotation spot.
  4. Why do you think he's not coming back when he hasn't pitched? Even if they IL him, they still need him on the active roster for most of the year to keep him without it rolling over to next year. All they would be doing is pushing off his major league time until another year. Now they could try and do what the Orioles did with Santander and try to squeeze out an extra year by ILing him and then putting him on rehab, but I don't see them do that with Pop.
  5. Pop is also a ground ball guy vs a strike out guy and doesn't miss a ton of bats. He does however get a lot of weak contact which is a strength. I think the fact he hasn't pitched bodes well for us getting him back. Could they game the system and IL him, then send him on continual rehabs and then use him next year when he may be ready, sure, I guess they could. But will they? I mean we did the same thing with Santander and it worked out pretty good so I guess the possibility exists that they will do something similar. I think the odds of getting him back are 70-30 in favor of getting him back.
  6. Fenter should be returned. If they aren't giving him innings then they've pretty much decided already he's going to be offered back most likely. He was a serious stretch to make that jump.
  7. Really good post here. I think you nailed it though I'm still hoping Zimmermann makes the rotation and one of Harvey/Hernandez goes to the pen as a long guy.
  8. The one thing to remember here, Elias only brings in Franco is he believes he can move him at some point for a potential piece in the future and the price is very cheap. If not, he'll roll with Ruiz because, why not? I also think this is the one position where a "Severino-like" waiver claim could happen late in the spring. Anyone know of any potential 3B that could be DFA'd?
  9. Cumberland is organizational guy for me who could come up and fill in as a backup catcher for a little bit in a pinch. He doesn't hit enough or play defense well enough to be a regular backup in my opinion.
  10. Lol.. The Ryan Ripken thing cracks me up every year. It honestly boggles almost everyone's mind as well, especially this year when he was given a minor league invite. Guess that Ripken name still carries some weight because it has nothing to do with him as an actual baseball player.
  11. DJ Stewart is making the team and he'll be the primary DH, especially against righties. Davis will start on the IL.
  12. Orioles made there first cuts, none were surprises. Brett Cumberland, infielder Mason McCoy, right-hander Marcos Diplán and left-handers Josh Rogers and Zach Muckenhirn were sent to the minor league camp in Twin Lakes.
  13. You conveniently left off last year's numbers. Now maybe Galvis struggled for a reason last year defensively, but he was not good according to statcast while Iglesias was excellent.
  14. It's a little early for anyone's stock to be too up or down IMHO. Obviously players want to do well and players who are battling for a roster spot need to have good results, so yes, the guys you mentioned as having stock go down have not pitched well. Hernandez is a the guy that probably saw his stock drop the most by pitching in the mid-80s. Not sure he has the secondaries, command and trick pitch to get away with that in the AL East. Well's velocity has been pretty good and overall I like him. Still not sure if he has enough promise to keep him as a Rule 5 guy for the season, but a few good outings and he could be in that conversation.
  15. Ruiz has had issues coming in on the ball but otherwise has been ok defensively. Ruiz has an average arm and can make decent throws, but he's just slow footed so anything that requires him to have range is something he's not going to be very good at.
  16. More then they'll get for Rio Ruiz.
  17. Laterally towards 3B. The analytics show he goes well to his glove side, in and back just not to towards the bag. It's a new way of breaking down each infielder. BTW, the reason you do this is the off chance Franco does really well and can be flipped. We know Ruiz is not going to be flipped for anything.
  18. Which means Franco must be a Boros client. I mentioned Franco this off season as being a fit for the right price. The defense seems pretty solid besides going laterally to the 3B side, and the bat might play well at Camden Yards and I'm ok with them moving on from Ruiz.
  19. That's pretty funny. It is actually quite embarrassing that the Orioles have no games broadcasted this spring and are one of the few stadiums to not have trackman set up so we can enjoy the data from baseball savant. They still have a ways to go to become a first class organization that doesn't cut corners on their fans.
  20. He's not just giving any money back to a Billionaire family. He's saying to the fans, his children, and the world that he realizes he can no longer rightfully perform any longer so he should not take money he's not earning. We all know that it's ownerships fault that they gave him the contract, but it's not that Davis is just a bad player but still could perform a bit, he's historically bad to the point that he's ruined his legacy. Now I get it, some people rather collect every dime of a contract and could care less about their legacy, but it's not like he doesn't already have more money then he or his children's children will ever be able to spend. If he's on the 26-man roster, he's also taking an opportunity away from a player to make major league money and to gain major league time for benefits purposes. So not only can he no longer perform, he's taking away an opportunity from another. Honestly, ownership needs to to do the right thing and allow Elias to just release him since it appears Davis appears to have no conscious and is not going to retire. He has no role on this team and would be getting in the way of actual players who could be a part of a future here in Baltimore or who could be moved for pieces that will be part of a winning future. I really don't necessarily disagree with your premise that Davis should not have to bail out ownership for their decision, but his decision continues to have ramifications far beyond the ownership. I think the one thing we all can agree on is that the day Davis is no longer a part of this organization will be the day this organization can truly look forward and leave the past in the past.
  21. Let's look at the whole situation. Does anyone really care how Davis is doing? You can tell Hyde doesn't like to talk about hi because he knows what's up with him. Why would a reporter want to waste time asking what's up with Davis? WHO CARES? the fact that he's no taking up spring training PAs is the one small victory in all of this. Davis has gone from one of the favorite Orioles to one of the all-time hated Orioles by most Orioles fans because he won't do what's right. I for one will feel the organization can take a huge sigh of relief when this embarrassing albatross is out of the organization and I could care less whether his back is feeling better or not. I'm just hoping this is the inevitable "Ubaldo Puddle" where it's used to get him off the roster. If he stays on the 26-man roster, he's costing another guy from making major league money this year by his refusal to so what's right and retire. I doubt he really cares though since he seems to be about himself first. So instead, he's going to have an injury, collect his paycheck, and hopefully be sent home to "rehab".
  22. Yes, two I believe. no hits, a walk or two.
  23. Thanks for the reaction on this thread. Let's me know people like it!
  24. 3/4 Update: Good: Urias three-run homer while playing SS Zimmerman dominant in 2 IP Bad: Kremer struggles in debut Galvis scratched due to getting treatment on the hip
  25. 3/3 Notes Wade LeBlanc (NRI) - Pitched two shutout innings, allowing just a walk while striking out two. Hunter Harvey - Walked the first batter he faced that set them down including inducing an inning ending 5-4-3 DP. Reportedly hit 98 MPH so velocity is fine. Dillon Tate - Allowed a solo home run that was a bit wind blown to right, struck out one over his inning of work. Fernando Abad - Allowed a hit, but struck two in a scoreless inning of work. Ryan Mountcastle - 0-for-3 and still hitless this spring. Austin Hays - 2-for-3 with a long two-run home run. Off to a hot start. DJ Stewart - Two games in and two homers. Hit a solo shot to RF. Went 1-for-3 with a K overall. Adley Rutschman - Started at DH going 1-for-4 with 2 Ks. Jamai Jones - Got on base in all three of his PAs, going 2-for-2 with a walk. Austin Wynns - Went 1-for-2 with a double that just missed being a home run. Ashton Goudeau - Pitched the last two innings of the game allowing just one hit and earning the "save".
