  1. The O's might end up getting more for him than they got for Schoop. That alone would make it a good move for the O's.
  2. Oh yeah, if Bannon gets it going, I'd love to see him take over, but if he needs another year in the minors or someone to share the job with, I'd kinda like to see Wilkerson. Wilkerson bats much better against lefties, and even though Bannon bats right, he's hit righties better than lefties.
  3. I haven't seen a lot of Wilkerson, but whenever I see him, he makes spectacular athletic defensive plays. I'd like to see him get at least an opportunity to play 3rd or 2nd base next season - as a 300 at bat type player. He seems like a guy who would wear out if you play him every day.
  4. Yeah, I hate to say it because it's fun to watch him play, but it's probably going to make sense to trade him if he has a good first half next season. As he re-establishes his value, I could see him getting the O's a better package than they got for Schoop.
  5. Put it this way; there's no harm in seeing how he does for the rest of the season, but hopefully we don't build a team by shopping often at the scrap heap.
  6. That's much more a negative for Jones than a positive for Nunez.
  7. And Jace is lucky to be in the majors, imo.
  8. You lost me with the bad rap part. How is it a bad rap when it's true that he has a sub-par bat? Yes, defense matters, but so does offense. And at 32, Flaherty was no kind of good answer for the O's this season. And if he had significant value, Atlanta would have traded him rather than release him.
  9. Camargo really proved himself last year and started this year with an injury. His stats are pretty much in line with last year's. He's a helluva player and could start at SS at some point.
  10. Flash and Charlie Culberson started out as pretty much equals when they were acquired by the Braves, but they went in opposite directions as Culberson established himself as one of the best utility players in the game. Meanwhile, the Braves really need a bat or 2 off the bench moreso than another utility infielder.
  11. Beckham actually has a higher lifetime OPS+ than Villar. It'll be interesting to see how both finish this season. I'm feeling good about both of them right now, but the proof will be in the pudding. They're both at that age where they're just barely young enough to continue as part of a rebuild, but the club has to make a decision on both of them.
  12. I don't get the fit with Schoop in Milwaukee - but maybe they have plans to make other changes there. Either way, I hope he does well. He did a great job with the O's and represented well. It was a real pleasure to watch him and Manny.
  13. That could very well be the plan - and a good one. And if he doesn't return to form, he's still doing the job as a place-holder for a team in the early stages of rebuilding. I was skeptical at first, but after reading everybody's comments (including Luke's in another thread), I see him as a very smart pickup for the O's.
  14. He didn't just steal 60 plus bases, he had an OPS+ of 117 in 2016 - at age 25. 62 steals and 60 XBH's and 79 walks. I'd have thought he was one of the top young assets in baseball. Since then, his OPS+ fell to 71 last year and has rebounded a little to 84 this season. Yeah, maybe we get lucky, and he does regain some value. As long as he's healthy, he should be starting.
  15. When Harold's wrong, he tends to double down on it. You can't pander to the least knowledgable fans - which is effectively what he suggested we should have done, and I commend the O's for not listening to pundits like Reynolds.
  16. Can't help but think in the back of my mind - with all those XBH's coming out of nowhere - Is there an injury? Part of that is paranoia, but it's easy to be paranoid as an O's fan. In reality, I thought it was far too ambitious to consider him likely to be in the 2019 rotation, so as long as he looks reasonably good in his next start, nothing's really changed in my view.
  17. I suppose Christian Colon (released by the Braves organization today) would have been a more interesting pickup. Remember back in the Manny draft of 2010? Colon was the 4th pick in that draft and the second rated SS behind Manny. I don't think anyone had him above Manny, but he was quite highly touted. He did ok in the minors, but he had typical inflated PCL stats.
  18. This is a very minor move - It doesn't hurt to give a 24 year old 3Bman with some power in AAA to see if he can improve. It's not like the O's have a tremendous 40 man roster. They have a bunch of infielders injured, so this move makes some sense. I mean... there probably weren't any all-star infielders available on the waiver wire.
  19. It's kinda convenient that Bautista is coming abourd today, because Atl's best 3rd baseman - Camargo - is likely playing SS, because Dansby Swanson is out with a sore wrist. But when Swanson returns, I think it'll be very foolish if the Braves put Camargo on the bench.
  20. Walked, singled, doubled, and homered, didn't strike out. His OPS is now up to .958. His career high OPS was .897 in 2008. Obviously this is unsustainable and the season is very young, but this is a fun story - even moreso than Flaherty's.
  21. Those bleeps stole my thought! He's 18 short of the 1,000 career runs milestone. I guess when you've been around as long as he has and been as durable and good as he's been, there's always some milestone coming up around the corner. And he grew up in Georgia - probably has family there that get to see his accomplishments - that's a great situation he's created and thrived in.
  22. I'm guessing he'll want to continue with the Braves. Even though they have lots of prospects, they only have one real good OF prospect - Christian Pache - who's hitting ability is questionable - and who's value is in playing CF. And the Braves will have a ton of money to spend next year - not that I think Nick will command a whole lot at his age and with his lack of HR power for a RFer. Of course, it depends on how he finishes the season, but I'd guess 2/15 would be his cost right now.
  23. Wow, if Nick keeps this up, maybe he will reach 3,000 career hits. What stuck out to me was his 19 walks vs 12 K's through 29 games. Last year, in 160 games he had 76 W's and 110 K's. Other than Joe Mauer, nobody has his kind of W/K ratio unless they're pitched around a lot (Bryce Harper).
  24. It's not that they should have kept Nick. It's that they should have found better players to play RF. Hopefully, Hays will be that guy later this season.
  25. Speaking of ComargO and the BravOs, Braves are excited about actually playing well to start the season, have money, and could be interested in Manny as a 3rd baseman. Comargo and a pitching prospect (Braves have tons) probably makes sense. Comargo's another player who can play SS or 3rd base. Because of the presence of Albies and Swanson, nobody paid much attention to Comargo, but I think he's a legit talented young infielder who should be starting in the majors.
