  1. He just doesn’t look ready and his limitations are more glaring in a playoff /postseason run.
  2. This is right Kevin Brown only helped his brand. Wish JA understood brand building, PR and leadership.
  3. Hope Os hitters are watching the Astro's hitters. They just put the bat on the ball, not always about EV or big swings. They adjust to teh stuff an picther.
  4. Agree. Hate the organization right now and that rightly or wrongly is down to John Angelos. Can’t believe what has happened since Monday.
  5. One irony on the NY criticism. Always loved that Baltimore was the anti-NY and anti-Steinbrenner. Can't say that anymore. Angelos' pettiness rivals Steinbrenner. Really had high hopes that John would would not be Peter - disappointed and concerned about the future given JA's bouts of pettiness. Such a bad look and an Orioles and Baltimore brand withdrawal vs a brand deposit.
  6. In a weird way this could end up being a positive on a few fronts. 1) when the Os were bad this would have been a non-story. Franchise is a joke. Move on. No one would be interested. Ultimately this reinforces that the Baltimore Orioles are highly relevant, everyone in baseball is now paying attention. 2) With higher standing comes greater standards - Os are expected to be good to great at everything now - media will no longer give them a pass. 3) Angelos now getting on MLB radar - he has been off MLB radar for awhile /a non-factor with no owner group relationships- other than the MASN thing but that was mostly a legal argument and although painful and aggravating, legitimate legally to contest up until resolution. Angelos and questions about lease and ownership suitability will now begin to bubble up as 4) MLB and leagues does not take capricious owner behavior lightly - JA will now be on notice - embarrassing to MLB. Completely different if KB make a derisive comment, commited an HR infraction etc. He did not. JA can do what he wants but not really and yes KB could probably claim JA has damaged his rep, maybe this is contructive dismissal etc - I mean JA is an idiot for doing this. 5) All of this may accelerate a change, CEO coming in etc - JA may be asked to take a back seat if this type of behavior continues. Sometimes it takes awhile but eventually bad leadership gets called out and replaced even if that means a team owner.
  7. This is so sad. JA needs a little perspective.
  8. Yes this is completely the point. I would prefer Urias to be that swing guy - you could put Ortiz at SS, GH at 3rd and JW/AF at 2B, Urias subbing at 3B/SS. But when they run the analytical model pretty sure Mateo speed probably equates to a win or two more in post season along with Frazier LHB PH late in game, Urias key AB or defensive play. Ortiz is depth or luxury at this point.
  9. Cowser may be a consequence of the pennant race. Prospects have to perform under pressure against the best. Even if this weren't a pennant race be tough to keep CC in the majors. He is epically bad right now, performing like you would expect a Single A player called up to the show prematurely. Stowers would be better at this point.
  10. Not convinced Elias has the GM relationships to get the right deals done - almost like there is some level of hazing occurring. Other GM's to Elias - "you have great prospects, best in the game ...not going to take your 12th best prospects - need 1-2 of your top guys or no deal." Elias - "ok no deal." You don't win the trade deadline when you are in first place by a couple of games, with a portion of your pitching staff running on fumes and want to win the WS by saying - "we could not make a trade that met our requirements." Not saying Elias should get taken but seems like he is not winning any of these negotiations right now.
  11. Also the Yankees have retired 22 numbers almost all associated with iconic players and names who played their entire career and/or made their biggest mark with the Yankees. Had Mussina come up with and started his career with the Yankees and signed with the Os or other team later he would have gone in with a Yankees cap.
  12. No. If he elected to go into HOF as an Oriole and he could have then I would see it differently. Also he didn’t go in as a HOF with the Yankees probably because he knew that would have been ridiculous. 83 career WAR definitely for me belongs in HOF was a better pitcher with the Os than the Yanks and should have reminded everyone of that and elected the Os cap which would have led to retiring 35.
  13. Colton Cowser and Connor Norby for Mike Yastrzemski. (Could throw in Mateo and expand the trade to include a lottery ticket pitcher). Would you make that trade? Trading present day power and peak performance for upside but upside you can spare, doesn’t mortgage the future and upgrades the OF for the post season and next year.
  14. Hopeful that 1 will come from Holiday, Heston or Mayo.
  15. Os hitters not there yet. Probably a year away from being an elite offense. Not sure how this team is supposed to perform against top tier pitching. Could really use a top veteran bat.
  16. This is 100 percent the right perspective. Time to determine if Ortiz is an upgrade over Mateo and Urias.
  17. The pressure is different when there is more on the line, i.e. division lead and holding on to that, expecting to make the playoffs and winning most games. Having low external expectations and low % chance of making the playoffs is very different than the current state of things. It is a very young team with limited experience playing playoff games.
  18. Mateo will be DFA'd by Friday. Ortiz up. It's time.
  19. Pressure is hard to manage. Most of this is mental which is why the O's grip on the division is tenuous at best.
  20. To quote Michael Jordan. " I hate losing more than I like winning."
