  1. I like going after E-Rod. I would create a package around Mayo, Ortiz, and McKenna
  2. I agree with this. He isn't going to bet the farm he just finished rebuilding right when it starts paying off. However, I could see deals for supplemental arms - bullpen and high minors guys. I think the biggest tradebait the Orioles have right now are Watkins, Ortiz, and McKenna. I think they get traded in a package for pitching support and high-minors guys. bullpen arms for the stretch-run.
  3. This is the thing, his approach is solid - the hits will come.
  4. Walking Judge makes Rizzo (another guy on an absolute tear) the game-winning run with a single swing. Bautista struck out the side, he made one mistake to one of the best hitters of the last couple of years. He didn't miss it, it happens. Bautista had the yips for a couple outings but has since been pretty alright, it was our best vs their best, sometimes the other team wins that battle.
  5. See I find the Reds' jersey nearly illegible. But to each their own.
  6. I think its more "they made an attempt to make deep-cut references to the city and not the Baltimore area" Like, the whole pastel colored neighborhood thing is a direct reference to those maps - one in particular is in like half of city classrooms and the colors they chose for the collar and cuffs is a direct call to that as well as Graffiti Alley (attached) which is its own little deep-cut local thing that makes cameos in every Baltimore rapper music video, hosts a lot of art-and community- and music stuff and is definitely a "if you know, you know," reference. you can clearly see the influence in the colors there. The thing is, it is a uniform as a metaphor - which I get and is cool and all, but I'm not sure it works as a jersey so much. They shot their shot, I get what they were trying to do it doesn't entirely work for me but I don't hate it.
  7. Oh wait - that was a line from Fidel's "The Origin," that he performed before opening day a couple years ago. Okay no I like this better then. It feels a bit corny stripped of the context of Fidel's original work.
  8. My question is this: Did Fidel wrote the poem that led to "You can't clip these wings" or did the PR team come up with that and then they got Fidel to write around it. Honestly, it matters with regard to my interpretation of that.
  9. The last two weeks have been: Monday: assignment posted, its due Friday. This weeks assignment is making history themed memes/ tik toks. we're basically chilling. My honors class is finishing up their outside literature/ historiography assignments this week. Next week is review for finals. AP has no final because they took the test.
  10. nah its fine. I wasn't coming for you or anything, my AP history kids are working on final assignments and I was in history mode.
  11. Only the checkerbaord portion is the Baltimore colors. the red and white Crossland banner is the was the coat of Calvert's Mother's family. The original flag was this seal on a blue field - think your run of the mill state flag. Upon the outbreak of the civil war, Union supporters began to recognize the "Baltimore colors" as their banner and confederate traitors adopted the red and white crossland banner to ID themselves (as red was considered rebel colors). That distinction and adoption was largely arbitrary. And Union soldiers from MD out numbered Confederate soldiers by at least 3 to 1 - its connection to the south is some deep cut confederate stuff. The current flag was adopted at the turn of the 20th to symbolize the "two sides, coming together." then in the 30s pro-confederate screed "Maryland, my Maryland" was adopted as the state song. But since then any recognizeable ocnnection to the CSA has largely been forgotten by the general public. But if you see anyone in MD flying a crossland banner - and nothing else. That is some deep cut racist nonsense.
  12. And they didn't even do it right - it should read Los DOYERS! These aren't great, but they are way better than the San Fran jerseys and the Wrigleyville jerseys.
  13. I think the Minors are the big thing right here. 2005 they got off to a great start and just couldn't sustain it and there were no reinforcements.
  14. I do love the fact they got Kondwani Fidel to do this poem again. I appreciate the way the org has really embraced the city - all of the city - the last few years by inviting local artists and really trying to better tie stadium into the feel of the city in general. ' the neighborhood map/ graffiti alley color scheme is a deep-cut Baltimore reference that is really a "if you know you know," thing.
  15. Not to be a downer, but 2005: 30-17 So now lets talk about what makes the 2023 team and org different from that team
  16. yeah that is a good look - frankly it incentivizes people buying the more expensive jersey
  17. I don't hate them - I'm just underwhelmed. The entire kit - black on black with the white belt - that is a solid look. The sleeves are cool and I "get it" the whole metaphor of "people only see one thing but underneath its this vibrant thing,"- I like that message. I honestly don't like the hat, I don't think the B works as a hat.
  18. This is always the right answer
  19. Not going to lie, I completely forgot that Cobb was on this team
  20. This. Gunnar did all he can do against minor league pitching. He will only get better up here. Those walk numbers are telling me he has a good eye, but he needs to be more aggressive.
  21. The Pirates are finally starting to miss Cruz. The Orioles should win this series.
