  1. I agree, I can't see an owner flushing all that money down the toilet just to see if there is an off-chance that Rio Ruiz has what it takes to be a major league player. I don't think they release him until he is truly blocking someone like Mountcastle - and I think they'll try Mountcastle in left field before they give up on Davis.
  2. That's what he's supposed to do, right? I think every manager in MLB would be expected to cover for their players. It's why they run out on the field when their player starts arguing with an umpire, for instance. I'm not saying that Hyde is some out-of-control manager, but recently it seems like he's letting his personal frustration get to him. I know we all don't like Davis very much and are looking for reasons to get rid of Davis, but Hyde's the leader of the team. He's supposed to be the example.
  3. I'm sorry that having the audacity to have an opinion that differs with yours is complete garbage. I think it's important to realize that Brandon Hyde isn't a broadcaster like Jim Hunter, where it is refreshing to hear an announcer or commentator speak to the truth and not sugar-coat things. Brandon Hyde is the manager. His job is to be a leader and make sure the O's win games. If you're looking for the post-game presser to be a source of valuable insight, I think that is a terribly misguided expectation. We don't need Brandon Hyde to tell us how bad this team is. You're right, everything Hyde has said is correct. But, there's plenty of people on ESPN, MASN, NBC, FOX, and tons of baseball websites to tell us that. What we need is Brandon Hyde to be a manager who keeps the clubhouse together and playing the best that they can. He isn't a commentator. He isn't the Orioles PR team. He's the manager. Roch has now stated he thinks Davis threw something in frustration, it hit Hyde's foot possibly, Hyde said something that wasn't appreciated, and it set Davis off. Why is a manager doing that? Why is a manager saying to the press that the guys on his team are not good enough? He can do whatever he wants behind closed doors - but not publicly. Whether you agree with that or not - modern baseball players do not like that. At all. Take one look at the Red Sox/Dennis Eckersley situation and you'll know that modern baseball players have certain expectations. Hell, Joe Girardi was a great manager and he got shown the door in New York because the clubhouse wasn't with him. Simply put, sure - if you're someone doesn't sugar-coat things, that's great. I completely understand. But, me personally, I care about what is effective. And we've seen on countless occasions that modern day baseball players have no patience for some of the things Hyde has been doing lately. We can shout about typical old-man-millenials-are-crybabies takes all day - but it doesn't matter. What matters is effective, and that's not trying to pick a fight with your first baseman. That's not talking to the press about how your pitching staff sucks.
  4. The top authority on baseball beef has spoken.
  5. He's not wrong. But I don't see how his comments are going to encourage the current players on this team to try their best when their manager is straight up saying that they aren't good enough to compete. Straight up, the manager is the manager. He's in charge. It's completely understandable for him to be frustrated, but you don't vent publicly. Because you're the manager. You're supposed to be the leader, set the example, and be in charge.
  6. I know Chris Davis isn't exactly popular - but it's never a good sign when a manager is saying something that causes one of his players to try and fight him. Say what you will about Davis, but he's never struck me as a hot head. This is not normal behavior for him. The O's are getting their butts handed to them during this series. It's the manager's job to keep everyone's heads up through the storm. Between Hyde throwing the team under the bus, venting to the media, and now this - I really am starting to doubt Hyde.
  7. I'm sure anyone would say plenty of nice things when there is a microphone in front of him. And I wouldn't expect Roch to write a critical article about anybody on the team. In a world where the Red Sox are still beefing with Dennis Eckersley, I don't see this being a successful long-term approach - especially when the team has more veterans with some status.
  8. The slow-motion on the replay makes it look worse than it actually is. Hope Stewart is okay, he might be out for a little bit.
  9. I think Hyde would lose a clubhouse of veterans pretty quick if he continued to do his "not enough effort, appreciate the opportunity" stuff publicly.
  10. I don't know how I feel about a manager straight up saying that the players on his team aren't good enough - or that they aren't trying hard enough. Not really a good message to the players you have out there and are hoping to succeed. I don't think that's an admirable quality, or even telling-it-like-it-is. Everyone knows the Yankees have a better roster than the Orioles. It's just bad clubhouse relations. If there's an issue, do it privately. I see no benefit coming from Hyde's angry outbursts.
  11. I'm curious, what do you do that allows you to post as much as you do?
  12. The best middle infield prospects that the O's have right now are Gunnar Henderson (He's 18), Adam Hall (20, Delmarva), Cadyn Grenier (22, Frederick), and Rylan Bannon (22, Bowie). We also saw plenty of Richie Martin this year. Why are you in such a hurry to jettison Villar? The impact prospects are still a ways away and I'm sure Hyde can figure out how to get Rylan Bannon some at-bats if they really need to. Yeah, Villar is going to be on the other side of 30 by the time the O's are good again. Just because he's on the roster in 2019 or 2020 doesn't mean they have to be married to him forever.
  13. Villar has no value though, I'm told. ?
  14. I like watching Villar play. I hope he's back next year. If they can't afford him, they need to explain where all my beer money is going.
  15. Well, according to Corn, there is no proof the GM has full control from ownership unless the GM does exactly what Corn is thinking should be done. So, the roster moves are irrelevant anyway.
  16. Still a win because of salary. The Brewers GM even said they lost the trade. And no, the O's don't have to trade Villar to get any value out of him.
  17. Villar has been worth 3 WAR since going Baltimore . Schoop has been worth 1.3 WAR since leaving Baltimore. That alone is a win.
  18. Even if those players never even make it to the major league level, the O's saved a ton of money in that trade. Looking back, I think it's safe to say now that DD won both the Milwaukee and Atlanta trades.
  19. It's NBC. Seems like a good career move. She'll be an employee of one of the biggest television networks in the country that broadcasts some of the biggest sports events. Lots of opportunity for her to move up to better positions within the organization.
