  1. It's also a load of crap that Gunnar is sitting. I know, I know BUT LEFTIES is the battle cry. He's also becoming a better hitter right before our very eyes. But he can't hit lefties at all if he doesn't face them.
  2. Irvin???? I wouldn't watch tonight if it weren't for Westburg.
  3. Someone check on @Sports Guy, he might have a stroke after reading this post.
  4. Schadenfreude of the highest order. Absolutely loving this.
  5. I just hope that Westburg comes up and has a couple monster games right away to force their hands. Hit a bomb tonight, a couple doubles tomorrow...just crush it right away so the choice becomes obvious that they can't put Frazier back in the lineup. Make them look stupid for preferring Frazier over him. Make it so obvious that everyone knows.
  6. Really hope that he's turning a corner here for us and becoming that legit #2, maybe even a #1. The K rate is increasing....if he can K a batter an inning, that's a good place to be. As far as the starters go, I believe he has the best pure stuff/raw ability.
  7. Freddie Freeman got his 2,000th hit last night. If you've got the Athletic: https://theathletic.com/4640085/2023/06/25/dodgers-freddie-freeman-2000-hits/ He is 33 years old and turns 34 in September. I didn't know that he was having a great season, but he is. That Athletic article says he's in MVP consideration.... 3.2 WAR so far this year, .946 OPS, 152+ and leading the NL in doubles. Freeman has been remarkably durable throughout his career, playing in over 145 games every year in his career except 2015 and 2017 when he played in 118 and 117 games respectively. He also looks like he keeps himself in good shape, I don't think he's going to turn into the tub of goo that Miguel Cabrera has turned into in his final years. His 162 game average is 180 hits on the dot, meaning he could get to 3,000 right around the time he turns 40 given the pace he's on. I'd say he's got a pretty good shot (as far as good shots go) at getting to 3,000 hits. He's been durable, consistent and is playing very well heading into his mid 30s. Obviously a lot of things need to go his way.
  8. It's not that I'm that much into him, it's a culmination of things: Not having to watch Frazier (most likely) or Mateo (a little less likely). Another step towards fielding a team of young players with a lot of upside. Hopefully this time next year our lineup is consisting of Gunnar, Adley, Westburg, Cowser, Kjerstad, maybe even Holliday. We're coming off a 2 win series against the Mariners. 5-5 over the last 10, need to pick that up.
  9. The game tonight can't get here fast enough.
  10. Buck not putting a closer in a game? Never would have guessed.
  11. Of course you are a millennial, I just laid out a problem with extra inning games and you didn’t address it because you had no answer for it.
  12. Imagine wanting to see a 15 inning game because that’s the way we always did it.
  13. Not really, no. It actually promotes small ball, that brand of baseball we’ve gotten away from over the past 25 years. Now, everyone is homer happy. But right away in extra innings there’s incentive to get a bunt down and advance a runner. Or hit behind the runner. Or walk the leadoff batter to put a double play in order. It puts pressure on the defense. We root for a team that has a bullpen full of one inning guys, hardly any of them can go 2 or more if they had to. And you want the possibility of a game going past 11 innings? Are you aware of how absolutely screwed we’d be if we had a game go 12 or 13 innings? Or even more? The bullpen could take almost a week to recover from something like that. But it’s easier to be a boomer and say “it defiles the game,” whatever that means. It sounds like “we’ve always done it this way, we can’t change it,” which is a sure fire way to go nowhere.
