  1. Oh. My. God. Kevin Brown cannot get over that McCann moment where Gibson had to hold the water in his mouth. He mentions it whenever he can.
  2. So Nestor had a quick inning? Just tuning in. I’m assuming he’s up to his old tricks. Gibson is an impressive sounding dude.
  3. Welcome to the resistance, been complaining about Felix all year.
  4. Who all would have rather seen Cano facing Judge in the 9th?
  5. I actually like the San Diego ones because they were unabashedly San Diego. The colors mean something to that area and they went LOUD on those jerseys. They didn't give a ****. They should have gone loud and proud here for the Orioles jerseys, too. I'm not saying pastels because that doesn't fit with the Baltimore vibe...but the whole "you have to look past what you initially see" is really dumb, IMO. They should have just come out swinging with some bright orange, Maryland flag, whatever and been in your face..."Oh, you outsiders think Baltimore is some gloomy city, well It's NOT AND HERE'S WHY, THIS IS OUR CULTURE" and just gone over the top with it. No, instead it's all black with some hints of color and "we designed the insides of our jerseys" because, like Baltimore, you have to look closer to see the spirit of the city. Whatever.
  6. That's good that CoC is wrong. Although he never admits it.
  7. God, yes. I dunno what to replace it with but it’s addition by subtraction.
  8. The belt doesn’t bother me too much, they couldn’t use a black one. I guess they could have taken the lining of the jersey that’s multi colored and put that on the belt but I don’t think that’d save anything here.
  9. This. And the rest of the post was spot on. There’s nothing here that resembles 1970 except there’s a couple of prospects that are blocked. This team doesn’t have all the greats like the ‘70 team had. It doesn’t have a HOF manager. It didn’t win a WS 4 years prior and lose a WS the year before. There’s nothing that would make me think of this team like the 1970 team. At all.
  10. That photo of Adley is awful. Black jersey on black pants is shameful.
  11. Some of you guys would still want to move him to the bullpen.
  12. His hamstrings must be like wet toilet paper.
  13. I haven’t looked but I’m assuming Giancarlo Big Strikeout is on the IL with some nagging injury.
  14. Bradish vs. Cole (2.01) Wells vs. Cortes (5.21) Gibson vs. Schmidt (6.00) Cole is going to be tough and Cortes, despite his ERA will be tough...that guy always, always schools us. And his ERA is a bit inflated, his FIP is 4.51 which is still not great but better than his ERA. Huge, huge series here, as huge as a series in late May can be. With everyone in the division playing well, it's important to be able to stack up wins against division opponents.
  15. Mussina (oh man, wait until @Tony-OHsees THIS) or Palmer were the easy choices. I'm a little late to the game here but I was going to say Cuellar instead to be different but @Orangebeat me to it.
  16. That's a good call about the same offseason. I think the other reason it doesn't get talked about is because Tettleton didn't go on to have a borderline HoF career the way Schilling did. Advanced metrics weren't a thing. They had no idea what an OPS+ was at the time and I don't think anyone valued OBP the way they do now. They probably saw his batting average dipped to .223 and he didn't hit for as much power so they decided it'd be a good move. The Tigers didn't care, they just wanted guys who could bash the ball over the fence. Those early 90s Tigers teams were fun, IIRC, they could score a bunch of runs but their pitching was always awful. Anyway, the early 90s Orioles look way different with Hoiles at C, Tettleton and 1B/C/DH and Milligan at 1B/DH, all of those guys are on base machines. Then you have a rotation of Mussina, Schilling, McDonald, Harnisch and pick your fifth. An outfield of Brady, Devo and Finley. I don't know if that team unseats the Blue Jays in '92 and '93 but I think they'd give them hell.
  17. Tettleton stings. I know they had Hoiles who they liked (and Hoiles turned out to be pretty great) but Tettleton for Jeff Robinson was a crap trade. The late 80s/early 90s Orioles really shot themselves in the foot with some of the trades they made. If they don't trade for Jeff Robinson and if they don't trade for Glenn Davis, the 90s are probably way different.
  18. Ah, the old "my employer doesn't like it, so MLB should feel the same way," logic. I love it when people compare their jobs to professional baseball players. It's great.
  19. From what it seems, it looks like Nike came up with the slogan and they had him write around it. At least, that's my interpretation from this article: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/37704283/baltimore-orioles-city-connect-uniforms The uniform also features the slogan "You Can't Clip These Wings" -- a melody created by Baltimore-based poet and author Kondwani Fidel meant to embody the city's perseverance. To coincide with the uniform reveal, Fidel wrote a poem with the uniform's slogan.
  20. IF YOU'RE GOING TO PLAY WITH MEN ACT LIKE A MAN COC
  21. Jumped from 4th to 6th in the Athletic Power Rankings. They have Tampa #1 followed by the Rangers and Braves....and falling 6 spots from 5 to 11 is the Blue Jays We deserve some credit for that, for sure. Jays are 5-12 in the division. 4. Baltimore Orioles Record: 31-16 Last Power Ranking: 6 It would’ve been cool to see Jorge Mateo continue his meteoric rise this month, but in reality, the Orioles weren’t counting on guys like Mateo in 2023. They were expecting an immediate impact from their top prospects like Gunnar Henderson and Grayson Rodriguez. Instead, it’s been a rough transition for those two, even as the surging Orioles have accumulated the second-best record in baseball. Henderson is batting .192 with a .685 OPS in everyday playing time, and Rodriguez has a 6.21 ERA through eight starts. There are silver linings, to be sure. Henderson is getting on base at a good clip. Rodriguez now has more solid starts than bad, with a few blowups skewing the ERA. But they’ve also looked a lot like, well, rookies. And if the Orioles are to do better than stay in the playoff conversation, if they’re going to chase down the Rays, it’ll likely be because Henderson and Rodriguez got a firm foothold and found their groove. — SN
