  1. I will say this in regards to Rose...the fact that he broke baseball's "cardinal sin" has always been a bit hollow to me, considering the era that the "cardinal sin" rule came from...an era where a lot of ballplayers held down jobs in the offseason and could be swayed by throwing a game for a few thousand bucks. Just because some crotchety wild haired old judge said it's the worst thing ever 100 years ago doesn't make it so. I'd argue that baseball's "cardinal sin" was keeping an entire race of people from playing the game for decades, thus keeping the overall product of MLB from being as good as it possibly could be. Or the owners colluding in the mid 80s to keep salaries down, thus essentially "throwing" the game.
  2. How do you figure it wasn't their fault that it happened? IIRC, the NFL was the first sports league to really embrace it...are you saying that it was a slippery slope and inevitable?
  3. This is pretty much where I am. I don't care about the morality of gambling, I just find all of the advertising tacky and gross. In regards to Roy's OP, it definitely makes MLB's stance against Rose a little awkward...and I've long been a Rose supporter for the HoF. While what Rose did and what MLB has tied itself to are separate things, they do fall under the big umbrella of gambling. MLB isn't advertising or condoning that it's players and managers gamble on the games they play on, but they still condone gambling. Unfortunately, it's here to stay and I don't see FanDuel or whatever the other gambling sites are going away anytime soon.
  4. Everyone: Gambling is a vice that shouldn't be advertised and marketed. sportsfan8703: BUT ALCOHOL IS WORSE WHY AREN'T WE TALKING ABOUT ALCOHOL
  5. I think his stuff is better than Tillman’s. But I was really encouraged by what I saw tonight. Couldn’t have asked for better from Kremer and him over the past two nights.
  6. Someone changer their username to Karen Frazier. That’d be hilarious
  7. Bradish looking good. Would be a huge shot in the arm for this team if he can step up and deliver starts like this.
  8. It’s amazing to see such a patient Orioles lineup. Never thought I’d see the day.
  9. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter where he stands in the field, it doesn't have any affect on his hitting. Or overall development.
  10. I'd still prefer Westburg/Ortiz at 2nd base but Frazier hasn't been as awful as Odor was...which is an incredibly low bar, but Odor was good for striking out 2-3 times a game. Frazier, even though he makes outs, will at least make contact and try to put the pressure on the defense. He is getting on base at a .328 clip and he's walked 7 times already. Odor walked 32 times last year. So, it's an upgrade so far but I'm not sure if it's worth the 7.2 million more than what Odor was paid last year. And I'm confident that Westburg/Ortiz could provide whatever Frazier is doing, except standing in the lefthanded batters box. Now I'm gonna duck outta here for a few before Tony tears my head off for saying something that could be construed as positive about Adam Frazier.
  11. SG! Can you explain why someone like Clayton Kershaw gets fired up like he did last night for his 200th win? Looks kind of cringe to me! Wouldn't want to be around that guy, brah.
  12. Last night was a breath of fresh air. And he what a good pitcher should do against an anemic lineup like the Nats. Here's hoping it's something he can build on in his next start.
  13. We don't. I will say, I am not a fan of his body language after he strikes out.
  14. I can't do Ripken's first 60 games because it spans over 1981 and 1982 and I'm not sure how to do that on baseball reference. Nick's first 60 games for his career were a .224/.304/.305 slash line, good for a .609 OPS.
  15. Okay, who are you and what'd you do with webbrick?
  16. You guys know you're being terrible when webbrick is a voice of positivity and reason.
  17. I asked what the Lopez return was. Partially because I was on my phone at the time and too lazy to look it up. But now that I'm back at my computer and pretending to do my work, I'll look it up. We got FOUR pitchers back for a bullpen arm that many thought at the time (more on this in a moment) was on a big heater and unsustainable. We got back Povich who is one of our top starting prospects, Cano who's looking to be a good bullpen piece and a suitable Lopez replacement, Juan Rojas who's 19 and has a 2.79 ERA in Delmarva and Juan Nunez who's 22 and in Delmarva and doesn't look to be much. Yes, I would make that trade every day for that return. To your point about Lopez, he's a good pitcher but I know you're too smart to think that his start is an accurate representation of who he is. If he were to keep that up, he'd have the best relief pitcher season ever and I don't think he's that guy. But I'm happy for him that he's been able to continue his success in Minnesota.
  18. What was the Lopez return, exactly?
