I don't hate this pick. The guy walks more than he strikes out. That's something this organization has needed and needed for a long, long time. Here's the deal...all of you guys who are pissed about this are pissed because of what we *could* have had instead. If you keep looking at Lawler, etc, you're not going to give this guy an honest look. There are some things to like here. I'm not thrilled with it, but at #5 you're gonna get a player with some good upside no matter which way you go.

But that's the point...we might not have been able to sign the "other kids" if we didn't go underslot with Kjerstad. It's a gamble, for sure. I get why some are mad at the strategy but this is all a giant crapshoot.

But Kjerstad was first round talent. Again, you're not complaining about the rest of the draft picks that Elias made last year, correct?

I think he was praising the strategy just as much as he was praising the pick. Look, none of you should be surprised. There wasn't a consensus top pick in this draft. There wasn't a consensus top 5 in this draft. The projections have been all over the place since the start of the year. Therefore, it's not a surprise that Elias looks to be doing what he did last year. An underslot player and saving money to spend later. Again, none of you should be surprised. I admit, I've done hardly any looking at the talent in the draft this year so I'm not as irate as I was last year when we didn't draft Martin. But I don't hear anyone here whining about having Westburg in our system. I don't hear anyone whining about having Hudson Haskin in our system. I don't hear anyone whining about having Servideo in our system. I don't hear anyone whining about having Mayo in our system.

Pish and posh. Elias should have enough money in the bank to set his family up for awhile, he could get fired tomorrow and never have to work a day in his life again if he's set everything up correctly. We see GMs fail upwards all the time. Even if he doesn't get another GM job, he'll still be wanted somewhere. Even as a talking head on MLB network doing draft analysis. He doesn't have guts. He'll be fine no matter what.

Same as last year, under slot, spend more later.
