  1. MLB Trade Rumors story speculates the Rangers might seek a proven LF. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/02/rangers-rumors-left-field.html

Using https://www.baseballtradevalues.com the following two players from the Texas 40 man are considered a fair return for Hays:

    LHP Brock Burke 26 yo

    https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/burkebr01.shtml

    &

LH Hitting 1B/OF Dustin Harris 23 yo

    https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=harris000dus

Burke had a bit of a breakthrough season in the Ranger bullpen last year after mainly a starter in the minors.  Harris joined Gunnar on the 2022 futures game roster during his 331 AB AA season of .257/.346/.471/.817.

Do either the Orioles or the Rangers think Hays is a starter on a championship contending team?  4th OF or “contributing pieces” don’t get that return.

  2. Random thoughts…….

Opening series coincides with Passover and Easter.
The Friday off day coincides with the grand reopening of the remodeled Baltimore Arena.  First performance will be Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.  They are my other passion, I have my ticket!
Here’s hoping we knock the NYY’s out of the postseason this year to add spice!

  3. I wasn’t a local (or Oriole fan) back when Davey Johnson played here but he certainly was referred to as “Davey” when he returned as manager.

I think “Cedric” will eventually overtake “Mullins” the longer he has a successful career here.

Loved the interview with Eddie in the TV booth with Kevin Brown and Ben McDonald during the 30th anniversary game.  He twice gave a shout out to “Alvin” (Jim Palmer) who was absent.

    Doubtful any at all.

Also not sure it impacts a future payday.  Guys like Machado and Arenando got contracts every bit as good as top SS.

Good points, looking at BBRef upon Henderson’s ascension to #1 overall, that Tatis jr extension scared me, 14/340 with the age 30-35 years @ 36M ea!              (Tatis is not a Boras client btw)

  5. Speaking to Henderson specifically, how much influence does Boras have in guiding Henderson (and in turn the Orioles)  toward keeping Henderson at shortstop?  It would seem the ability to stay at SS dramatically impacts a future payday.

  6. Odor pretty much shut down 3B talk in spring training letting it be known he was “uncomfortable” there.   Lots of big names around MLB being DFA’d since the deadline.  Vavra breaks in hot.  Odor sees a need to become “comfortable”.

Holliday shouldn’t even be an option. The chances of him making it to the big leagues in 2024 is slim to none.

Mateo is the best bet followed by Henderson. Westburg could figure in too.

Holliday is listed due to his youthful hubris during the presser when he said he’d be in MLB in two years.  Since the poll isn’t who will be the opening day SS 2024 I threw him in just in case he comes up mid season.

As for Westburg, I can’t edit the poll and add him at this point. Type WESTBURG and I will tabulate.
