  1. Do you possibly think the Friday 1 inning, back on mound Tuesday was a test for MLB bullpen?  Certainly a number of folks here have suggested we bring him up for bullpen use during “the stretch run”.   Maybe better to  mess with his routine in Norfolk than in Baltimore.  Just spitball’n here.

Not a bad problem to have currently. We could always spot start him after the ASB to give the rest of the SP an extra day of rest.

This is what I’m thinking.  13 games in a row, an off day, then 17 in a row before an off day on Aug 22.   Strategic placement of Voth and Harvey during those stretches really keeps the toll off the top 4 going into those meaningful Sept. games.

  3. How much does playing three games at the Trop play into this.  Certainly watching and listening to broadcasts over the years it is apparent that the roof provides tough reads.  Would the O’s rather not throw rookies out there for, dare I say it, “ a pivotal series”.

  4. Interrupting the trade talk, looking ahead at the MLB schedule, the NYY’s only get a three day all star break (we get four).
NYY’s open by playing a 1pm/6pm doubleheader in Houston on Thursday before coming to Baltimore Friday.
Houston manager Dusty Baker will be managing 6 NYY players in the ASG.

Interesting scenarios with Cole and Cortes both in ASG.

  5. The decision on Mancini is easily deferred until after the 10 games with TB & NYY.  So no need for any pronouncements now.
Britt is a good columnist, (I guess that is what she would be considered now as opposed to beat writer), Britt does tend to get a little attached to her favorites, she cried a river over Buck.

I think he may well get to 33. Due to his risk and teams not wanting to miss on their first pick, he just makes more sense as a team's second pick.

If he doesn't make it to 33 it would make sense for him to go to a contender that plans to use him in the pen this year.

Crazy thought, the Mets are contenders and have the 11th pick and the 14th pick.   They wouldn’t would they?

Elias gets a view of 17 more games before the trade deadline, barring rainouts.

Is even 6-0 to close first half enough to make him take a long think about unveiling Hall-Gunnar-Westburg to open the second half?

We have a chunk of 7 Rays games soon after news breaking today Wander's wrist might be a non-minor injury.

I do hope we pitch Lyles Tuesday-Sunday-Friday, if he's game.    Its kind of the time of his life this month as much as Mancini's.

Radio broadcast confirming Tuesday & Sunday Lyles appearances.

  8. Padres leading outfielder has been Jurickson Profar who just went on 7 day concussion IL.  Nomar Mazara has played in 30 games this year with respectable numbers but his track record with Texas, CWS and Detroit in the past, not stellar. Yesterday’s OF batted 7-8-9, with OPS’s of .000, .624, .629.   Need to be talking to them.   They do have a trade-able competitive balance draft pick at #39.

When has that ever happened? Not trying to be snarky, just wondering if a team has ever approached the deadline as a buyer and a seller and successfully pulled off trades.

Last year Seattle and Houston made a trade that helped both teams achieve short and long term goals.
From BBRef: July 27, 2021: Abraham Toro traded by the Houston Astros with Joe Smith to the Seattle Mariners for Kendall Graveman and Rafael Montero.

Seattle was a bit of a surprise contender and the fan base was infuriated in Dipoto trading the popular Graveman to Houston for Toro’s potential, but on July 28 the Mariners were 55-48 then went on to finish 90-72.  So 45-24, a sizzling .652 after the trade!  Went into the last weekend with a shot at the wildcard but missed out.  During that stretch, just for spice, Toro hit a grand slam off Graveman.

A few warnings to O’s fans, Seattle was 7 games ABOVE .500 when the trade was made.  We are excited with our 5 game winning streak that has put us 4 games UNDER.  In relation to the attendance thread Seattle really didn’t see an attendance jump until the last three games of their home schedule even though their last six were at home.
