  1. I tried to do all Orioles. Couldn’t pull one for SF/Chi. Looked at the list and I saw four that I recognized would work. I used one for the SF/Bal square. The other three, you have to go back 40+ years.

I used a popular Tx/SF answer who also played for Baltimore. He got me 20 points. The other seven got me 10.1 total.

Yea…and that’s extremely rare.  For the most part, the best teams have offensive coaches and that is just the way teams are going nowadays.

But sure, it could happen. It’s just an odd rumor considering what todays game values especially when you have a young QB.

Macdonald is like my fourth or fifth option for HC because it’s easier to replace a DC than an OC when you have a young QB.

However, if they draft Maye, they could go with Macdonald and pair him with Freddie Kitchens who is currently at UNC.

I guess it’s possible but that’s hard to believe. They are going to draft a QB with their first pick and the first thing they are going to do is bring in a defensive head coach with no head coaching experience?  I have a lot of doubt about that.

The idea is that they bring in Hortiz as GM and MacDonald as HC. They’ve already brought in Eugene Shen to head up the analytics department.

Houston drafted Stroud and paired him with a defensive HC.

Me thinks the Ravens better pay Mike Macdonald a lot of money to stick around.

Many believe he’s going to be the top Washington HC candidate.

  5. 117 today. Halladay was the big point scorer. I thought the first round pick had to be made by the team. Harper is the high score for that square. I also thought ERod would be the high Det/Bos, so I stayed away from him. My Orioles/Red Sox was under 0.5. There are three to four guys that I thought would be pretty high in that square but were lower than Pearce.

Ugh, an all-teams grid.  I was happy to get 6 of 9.   Whiffed on SEA/DET, ATL/DET and SD/CIN.

I was surprised that I had the high score for Atlanta/Det. Former Oriole, but played like 35-40 years ago. Also used a former Oriole pitcher for Sea/Det.

    Total score of 80.

We will see soon who is the most desperate to land Cease. I don't think the Orioles operate from desperation, so I don't think we end up with him.

Jays, Yankees, Giants, Boston, Mets all have the stink of desperation on them IMO. And I wouldn't count the Dodgers out at all.

I do think a “non-desperate” package from Baltimore has much more value that a “desperate” package that NYY could currently offer.

I saw something about the Dolphins earlier in the year that talked about their easy schedule.

They still have the Jets,  Cowboys, Us, and the Bills.  Hopefully the Bills have an in scenario the last week. That would mean they have 3 tough games left.

Bills may end up winning their division.

I totally screwed up today’s grid but I was really proud that I got someone who played both C and SS.   Then I saw that 427 players have done it!   That was deflating.

Did you use a former Oriole?
I started playing at 9 and all the squares said 100. Currently I have a 59.

  10. Seems like the NBA and MLB are trying things to spruce up the soft parts of their seasons to compete with the year round NFL product.

This is actually a really good idea. Say what you want about Manfred, but these past two years have had good ideas to grow the sport.

9/9, 133 today.  I didn’t want to think too hard or take any risks for LA/Philly or LA/Atlanta, and my choice was the most popular for each of those.

When I first read “10+ Win Pitching” I read it as “10+ WAR Pitching.”   That would have been tough!

Oh my gosh. That’s exactly how I read it. And I totally cheated on the A’s. Then I saw they had 140+ possible answers and couldn’t figure out why my reading comprehension is so bad. Zito, Hudson, Mulder, Stewart, Welch, non of those guys had 10 WAR seasons. Had to go back to Philadelphia to get an answer. Philadelphia and Atlanta wasn’t too difficult to get a 10 WAR season for a pitcher.
