The reason his free agency was so secretive was because he hired Dexter Fowler to be his advisor.

On the eve of Harper’s free agency, he is looking for an extension with the Phillies. Oh wait, his contract doesn’t end until 2031.

He’s just got to be upset watching the Ohtani sweepstakes, the upcoming Soto FA, and Machado guaranteed more than $100M more than him.

9/9, 21 today. The grid was too easy IMO.
You crushed my score of 24! I should have put more thought into Cleveland .300 hitter. I got 13 on that square alone.

Ohtani to Toronto will end up making it harder for NYY to re-sign Soto. The Dodgers will be another team in on him next year.

Orioles column today. 5 total for that. 36 for the whole puzzle.

Are you seriously comparing a start up to a Fortune 500 company!?!?!! Congrats on getting out early. I had 20 years in when this happened.
I was just asking what company it was.

I am just saying, nothing business wise says he will be the owner we want. I was one of thousands of Marylanders that lost their jobs when his group took a Fortune 500 company from greatness to bankruptcy while he made millions and there was no regard for the Marylanders who's lives destroyed.
What place was this? I also worked at a company, a start up, that got bought by Carlyle, got chopped up, and then sold. I saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship before I got laid off.

My bigger concern is getting another incapacitated owner, and this guy is 75 years old, so it's only a matter of time.
You’ve stated this multiple times in this thread, but it’s have it on good authority that Rubenstein has a steady diet of baby’s blood and probably has another 60-70 years in him.

If Cohen outbids them on Yamamoto, look out. Besides Cole, their rotation is awful.
They didn’t get a combine 2WAR from their corner infielders and don’t really have a plan but to run them back. And they are both over 34.

45 this morning.
Only was able to use two former Orioles (HOF 20W and Mil/StL)

9/9, 109 today. I’m on a roll!
Cost myself serious points by picking a safe answer for Toronto 200 game winner. I had a much better answer that I wasn’t 100% sure of.
There are only 6 answers there. I could only think of two. That one and the Reds 200 game winner is where I got all of my points. 15.8 for the other seven.

Had a 22 for the 8 non Det/Hou square. Could not come up with anyone else.
Bos 40+ WAR got me .4.

Can be done with all Orioles. Total 17. 7 without looking up. StL/Phi had to confirm. Totally cheated with St L/KC.

114 today. Too many popular answers. Looking back at it, it could probably be done with all orioles.

Its nice to see an observer comment neutrally on Soto as a fit here without the "Angelos, never" automatic negative thought.
I think its an interesting thought exercise if the same trade package could get 1 year of Soto or 2 years of Cease which would better serve the championship odds of the 2024-2025 Orioles. The 2025 Orioles MOO bats options may have a nice edge on 2024 with growth from Holliday-Mayo-Basallo. The 2024 ZiPS still have 125-ish OPS+'s from Adley/Gunnar as the team leaders.
Same as last year one of the world's greatest talents will play their walk year for about ~1/30, no long term commitment. Guaranteed eventual 1st rounder with QO decline, a perk that Dylan Cease is less certain of.
I’d imagine that SD would want a pitching heavy return for Soto.

Heard a Washington radio guy say today that the Ravens were going to trade their second rounder for Chase Young, took a look at his medicals, and said no thanks.

It was reported that he wanted to go to a team with at least one other Japanese player. His camp very quickly refuted the story.
Yeah, why not deny that when it could potentially limit the number of suitors to bid up the price.

I like that strategy, and would have loved to have used Hank Aaron today, but I’d already used him for Brewers/Braves. Sheffield didn’t pop into my head. Thats a good pull.
Ah, I misremembered. I used Griffey today for CWS and used Sheffield for Braves/Brewers. But used the same strategy and picked ole Nellie Cruz for the Brewers over 300 HR.

Me too. I know Yount wasn’t a huge homer guy, but I figured that over a 20-year career he’d have 300.
When I see that category, I tend to go with someone I know has 400+ HRs and spent some time there but is known for playing for other teams. Sheffield for today. Griffey Jr the other day for CWS.

Wow ……..delay much. I was never on Carr. Since you stoked the fire, what happened to the passing game in the second half last night. You will no doubt come up with some BS excuse.
The passing game suffered because Jackson didn’t approve of Flowers’ TD celebration. He has lost the locker room with his aloofness. If he only had the smarts of Jimmy G.

Definitely missed him on that drive.
