  1. Phew, Jay is still dancing around his home and watering his garden. I was starting to think they foreclosed on it. Glad to see he's still there spinning records.
  2. Maybe I'm seeing things but Kremer keeps inspecting one of his fingers after throwing a breaking ball.
  3. By all accounts, Bradfield can tell a ball from a strike so he already has a huge advantage.
  4. We might make the playoffs too. He really didn't say anything despite saying something.
  5. That's just an old man trying to figure out the new fangled cellphone technology.
  6. Nah, my family in Egypt is 6k miles away. It's the in-laws in the Philippines that are responsible for that distance.
  7. I call people 10,000 miles away frequently. I think you're over thinking this.
  8. I heard someone on the radio talking about bringing in trade talent mid-season. I think he was a manager and he said if you bring in a new player and don't want to disrupt your team chemistry, the guys in the locker room need to know he's better than who he's replacing. Hader would be better than pretty much all of our guys, I doubt he'd end up a clubhouse cancer.
  9. The tweets were indeed awful and inappropriate. That said, most people work and interact with people who have plenty of skeletons in their closets and think they are the salt of the earth because they just don't know what the skeletons are. I can tell you from experience that people are always shocked when <so and so> neighbor does something awful, he was the kindest, most honest person they had ever known. I'd also say that 100% of the people posting and reading this board have said or done something that people would find equally inappropriate at one time in their lives and it's not held against them because people just don't know about it.
  10. As was pointed out earlier in this thread, there is a far greater chance of the Orioles acquiring Ohtani as a rental than of us ever signing him as a free agent. The Orioles could likely beat any offer to get his services for the rest of the season. Should they? I don't think so, you'd be sending a ton of talent away for a sure rental, and that doesn't guarantee a WS win.
  11. I'm all for running him out there every day because I'd rather he learn on the job, but Cowser has not been in the same stratosphere as Henderson and Westburg when they were brought up. OPS+ of 68 in a small sample, but the others basically came up and had an impact with the bat, he's not. He's taking walks, which is nice, but at this point, he's below replacement level. (SSS, yes.)
  12. I honestly believe how they do the rest of the month is going to determine if they actually try to add impact players at the deadline. There are too many teams right now who are on the fence playoff-wise, and hopefully, some of that will be more clear in a couple of weeks.
  13. Still boggles my mind that after that series we're done with NYY for the rest of the year. Should have put more in division games toward the latter part of the season (I know we do finish with some).
  14. To me, it feels like the expectations for this season are ahead of where Elias thought they would be. I'm sure he thought the team would improve on last season, but I don't think he thought they'd be in the position they are in right now. I just think this is a scenario he had playing out next season and probably wanted to get a better look at the young guys this year. I'm not sure he's going full-on all in at the deadline, but we'll find out what he does over the next couple of weeks.
  15. He doesn't need to hit HR's. If he is truly one of the elite defensive players he just needs to get on base somehow. Take a look at Kiermaier's OPS+ over 11 years it's 98, he's been worth nearly 35 wins. He was worth 5.5 WAR slashing .246/.331/.410 with an OPS+ of 104. Let's not kid ourselves that players are only valuable if they can hit the ball a long way. If he truly has elite defense and plate discipline, he'll be extremely valuable.
  16. He was so upset by the Orioles picking him up, he called Elias right after to voice his concerns. https://twitter.com/Orioles/status/1678217095400521729?s=20
  17. His quickness bolsters his on-base ability and helps him compensate for a below-average arm by allowing him to reach grounders in a hurry.
  18. He's 17, by the time he makes the majors we might not even be alive, so we have that going for us.
  19. Emerson modeled his game after Jeter. I hope he left the shitty defense part out.
