I find it funny that the Orioles go from horrific at developing pitchers to pretty good at getting value.
The Giants I would say are pretty good, however they also have that heavy damp cold air there that favors pitchers.
The Giants are in between a rebuild and trying to compete, much like 2017 and 18 for the Os. I wonder if they would be willing to tear it down and rebuild or are they going to just continue down the path they are on. I also wonder what it would take to get Logan Webb and Tyler Rogers from them? It would be interesting to explore and would be a blockbuster trade in the terms of what the Os give up and what they get.

The Giants just shelled out money for Soler and Hicks and took on Ray's salary via a trade. Those aren't moves made by a team that's considering a rebuild. I don't even think it's worth a hypothetical to discuss trading for Webb and Rogers.

Serious question: is Mitch Keller a better pitcher than Dean Kremer?  I think most O’s fans have a very good impression of Keller based on the dominant game he pitched against us last May.  But his season went significantly downhill from there.

Only 16 pitchers in all of MLB had 200+ Ks last season, and Mitch Keller was one of them. Yes he had some epic meltdowns in the second half, but I still think he has considerably more upside than Dean Kremer. The difference between the two are the Ks and the upside.

No, you weren't speaking in hyperbole, at least how that's not how it came across.

Look at it this way:  Say Elias goes out and gets Bauer without consulting with the leaders on the team and then finds out they're pissed AF about it.  Then he's got a bit of a problem on his hands.

I never said the players should be the ones to make the decision, I believe I said that the leaders on the team AND Elias should make that decision together.

I don't get  REALLY upset/personally offended on here, unless the Orioles do something stupid or awful...and not until JTrea comes back, at least.

That's not how I read your - if they player's are good with it I'm good with it - comment. If that's what you really meant  then I think we're on the same page. If Elias is considering signing Bauer then consulting the players is something he absolutely should do as he weighs the pros and cons. My point about the adults making the decisions was that even with their imput Elias (i.e., the adult) should ultimately be the one to make the call.

  4. 4 minutes ago, Moose Milligan said:

Oh, that wasn't you who was arguing that Elias had to be the adult in the room?  My mistake.

C'mon man, you know damn well that I was was speaking in hyberbole. My point was that someone who's more experienced and qualified (i.e., Elias) should be making the decision (not the players) and in this case that person happens to be older.

If you're upset about the Moose, Jr post then I apologize. That was 100% meant as a joke.

Ah.  So he’s not a cancer, just a bad tutor.  Noted.

I thought due to my “views” we were on longer discussing the matter.

My point was the screen shots you posted didn't exactly paint a picture of Bauer being a baseball savant. And yes that's relelvant to the discussion because some folks have noted his potential ability to provide guidance and tutelage to our younger players as a selling point for taking a chance on him.

This is pretty funny. I’m here arguing for Bauer if the players are interested in having him on the team, you’re the one who’s been taking hardline old-school Boomer stances throughout.

The majority of my posts have been about my concerns about Bauer affecting the team's chemistry and his actually ability to perform on the field. Those topics/opinions aren't stereotypcial of any generation. So I'm really not sure what you're talking about when you say I'm taking "Boomer stances".

What is stereotypical (of an older mentaility)  is you downplaying the significance of social media in today's world and not awknowledging that famous people following and unfollowing each other is a pretty big deal (whether we like it or not). And for the record I'm not a Boomer either.

What has he done to warrant a 10 year 9 figure deal.

That's not the point I was making. Yes, he's overpaid, but suggesting that he's the second coming of Adam Frazier is ridiculous. Xander Bogaerts has more HRs over the last three seasons than Adam Frazier has over his entire career. He's a very good player who was mistakenly paid as a great player.

I’ll take Mookie Betts’ word over anonymous sources.  I doubt Mookie would’ve called him an awesome guy if he knew his teammates had major issues with him.

Like I said in another post, actions speak louder than words.

This comes after it was discovered a number of Dodgers players unfollowed Bauer on Instagram, including Turner, Muncy, Mookie Betts, Albert Pujols, Kenley Jansen, Chris Taylor and Dustin May.

Not even considering, Adley hasn’t done anything to warrant a 7-10 year deal.

He's certainly done enough to warrant it, but at the same time they probably shouldn't do it. Those two things can be mutually exclusive.

At risk of getting in trouble with the board, it is pretty fascinating how this subject is dividing the board, MLB and society. It feels like a political question almost, like a pro-life/pro-choice thing - but it isn't, I'm not sure of Bauer's politics and frankly don't care about them.

Outside of baseball reasons, which I believe are the only valid reason to not sign Bauer (signs of regression in a lesser league in Japan) - when you read the reasonings of why certain fans, posters, and journalists don't want an MLB team to sign Bauer, you soon realize that there is not a single burden of proof he could ever provide to convince them he deserves a second chance otherwise. This has already played out in the courts, and all the evidence that was provided from those hearings and testimonies is still not enough, its all very Kafkaesque. If he was found guilty of anything, if the judge could've found a reason to keep the restraining order, I'd be of the opinion, that no, Bauer shouldn't be signed because there is probable cause something did happen between the parties where he is at fault. Even still there are much worse cases of domestic violence from within MLB (Ozuna, German) in which players returned to playing in a rapid succession compared to Bauer.

So what's it about? Its about projection, virtue signaling, holding luxury positions and a general view within a constellation of opinions that align with other things - the same type of short term thinking that lead the MLB to move the all-star game out of Atlanta over so-called "oppressive voting laws". An earlier comment about "finding it really weird all pro-cop people should have Bauer signed", or however the poster put it, is the low-brow tribal thinking at the base of all of this.

Our society is constructed in a way to allow the courts and justice system to work through their processes. Innocence until proven guilty is a cornerstone of our country. Is it perfect? No, but what's the alternative? Getting Navalny'd? Are people going to be happy with every decision a court or judge makes. Hell no! But we should care about the processes more than we care about the outcomes.

Your points are taken, but it's the majority of Bauer supporters who continue to steer the conversation away from on-field, clubhouse, and actual baseball implications.

As I said, I leave it to Elias to figure it out.  I’m sure he has way better sources than the internet to determine what kind of presence Bauer would be in the clubhouse.

That's fine and I'm trying my damndest to focus on the clubhouse / on field implications (which at least seem somewhat relevant), but everyone in this thread seems to be more concerned with making this a social commentary on the persecution of an "innocent" man.

Didn’t we sign a similar checkered past in Michael Givens last year? Don’t Orioles fans who are Ravens fans still love Ray Lewis? There are some extremely vocal voices on X who would absolutely freak out if we signed Bauer. It kind of makes me want to see it happen, tbh.

Look, the guy was cleared of wrong doing and all one has to do is watch the interview of the “victim” to understand what type of insanity Bauer has dealt with as a result.

moral of the story: don’t dip your dick in crazy.

I'm not sure why you continue to make this about guilt and innocence and to completely dismiss his on field antics and actual projected on field performance which are actual relevant topics to discuss. Stop pushing your hidden Bauer is a patsy agenda. No one cares.

FWIW, one of the most respected players in MLB, Mookie Betts, called Bauer an “awesome guy”.

FWIW I have a feeling what was said publicly and what was said behind closed doors are two entirely different things.

"Two people with knowledge of Dodgers clubhouse dynamics, who are unauthorized to speak publicly about the situation, said that a majority of players do not want Bauer back under any circumstances."

For those who haven't watched the interviews/links that are on page 8 here, especially those who have pre-judged Bauer as a monster, I think that these basically paint something much different.  And goes to what @Malike says about lies and setups to meet a goal.  This seems to prove that he got a raw deal from a predator who was trying to extort his money.  If you haven't watched, and want to know what this was all about, this stuff is pretty powerful in his favor.

It still doesn't answer the questions about clubhouse presence and positive leadership though.  That's a different, and also important concern.

I'm of the opinion that actions speak louder than words and he still had several "incidents" while playing in Japan last season.

Bogart moved to 2B this spring with Kim moving to SS.  I won't be surprised if he's a $30 million Frazier in a couple of years.  Padres could be a very bad, expensive club in 3 or 4 years.

Bogaerts is twice the offensive player Frazier is or ever will be. He was extremely unlucky last season and was also playing hurt.

Did you watch the interview someone posted.  Maybe it’s all an act to get back in MLB but Bauer showed humility and said he acted inappropriately in his MLB career (nothing to do with the allegations).   Personally, I think his agent and he orchestrated his new demeanor but it was a good act.

I did, but it's a bit hard to give it much credence when he's still having incidents as recent as last season. Based on his actions it's pretty clear to me that wherever Trevor Bauer goes he's still going to need to be the center of attention, which is the exact opposite of humility.
