OPS up over 1.000 and avg. over .300 with a 3 for 3 night so far and game is only in the 5th. With Prieto at Bowie now I have to imagine Gunnar is heading to AAA sometime soon. I don’t think there is much left for him to do at AA.

Like maybe not pull double duty as the closer on his college team?
Tech pitching is notoriously terrible. Hall does what he can to try to win and keep his job. College baseball is a meat market run by men who don’t prioritize the best interest of their players long term health. But, yea someone like Wieters who knows they are going round 1 might want to consider the future and push back a bit. But then again read his comments about giving his teammates his all. 19/20 y/o kids want the ball.

He was hitting 95 almost regularly and I think he got it up to 96. Has he ever thrown that hard? Last night they made a comment of him hiding the ball a la Fernando Valenzuela. I have to imagine that short arm action is incredibly hard to pick up and if he pumping 95-96 that’s a challenge for hitters to handle.

Dude is on a heater.

I think he's slated for the bull pen.
He's done his night. Only runner allowed was on a walk. No hits. Vespi came in and did his 0.00 era thing and struck out 2 in the 4th.
-
6 Ks through 3ip. Only allowed one baserunner. Looks really sharp.

From the games I've watched it looks like he swings at a lot of bad pitches early and puts himself in the hole. He's often batting 0-1, 0-2, 1-2. Kinda looks like he makes up his mind to swing ahead of time and lets it fly resulting in some gnarly looking swing choices. But when he catches it, it's loud contact.

DBag #2 has entered the fray
Seriously, where was all this nonsense when Brad Brach was lights out wearing 35 for a few years?

Yeah, I looked it up, he did. He pretty much proclaimed his love of the Yankees and Rays and his hatred of the Red Sox and they still retired his number.
To be fair, everyone hates the Red Sox.

We don’t have any better options right now and I really don’t want to see Ritchie Martin get his 8th shot at the role. Play Mateo. Bat him 9th. Let’s see what he’s made of.
Not to mention that if he is slated long term to be the bench guy, getting everyday ABs this year will only help him in the bench roll moving forward. Not sure what the rush is to push him off SS, we don't have any other options and we didn't sign anyone in the offseason so continuing to talk about is a waste of breath.

The biggest knock on him going into the season was that he doesn’t hit lefties well. So far, he’s done even worse this year. He has big power potential, but he just doesn’t make consistent contact. I’m my opinion, his swing mechanics rob him of his potential. To hit ML pitching well, you need to see the ball well. You want your head still so you can see the ball movement right to the bat. He has too much head movement. I don’t know his numbers against pitch types, but I’d expect his numbers against anything other than the FB at the major league level will be awful. I want to see him succeed because he has the raw power and physical frame. But he needs to reinvent himself at the plate, and that doesn’t happen often.
I knew he struggled against LHP but didn't' realize the splits were that bad. It looks like he's a little behind last year against LHP but he hasn't dropped off a cliff completely, but absolutely a glaring red flag. Honestly, I had written him off when I saw that long swing a couple years ago but he keeps putting up #s that keep you interested. Those splits definitely scream platoon, though. And i think your assessment is correct, he will likely struggle against advanced pitching with that swing. BTW go Terps! Confernce Champs woot woot!

Putting together a nice season so far. 8 Hr (one less than Stowers) and OPSing .817. He’s plays a solid RF. He’s definitely earned an opportunity and a pay raise, but how do you fit him in and get him ABs w/o a trade (or two). Is he attractive as a potential throw in for a trade? You gotta like that every year he has improved as he has moved up to tougher competition. He’s on pace to hit 50% more HR than last year.

At Yankees Stadium and Fenway, I don't feel comfortable without at least a four run lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
Personally I like 6 at Fenway….

Not worried about Westburg in the slightest. He has been picking it up plus he's got 11 doubles, 8 homers, OPS over .800. Ortiz is another story. He's been doing a little better in May but he definately needs to pick it up but it looks like he'll get all season in Bowie to do just that. I do think Ortiz is in danger of falling behind the top guys now. Next wave is Norby, Hernaiz, and Mayo.
Not worried either. A little competition never hurts.

Time for Ortiz and Westburg to step it up. Footsteps getting louder.

How is Stowers as a center fielder? I see he's got just 28 games there, and only 12 this year, so maybe it's too soon to be evaluating him there.
In the handful of games I’ve watched on MiLb and live he looks like he does a decent job out there. I remember him losing a ball in the sun & losing a ball in the lights, but not many other blunders. He makes the plays and has a really strong arm. Not the flash out there, but also doesn’t look slow. I imagine they are trying to figure out if he’s a capable CF. I do imagine long term he’s a candidate for RF with arm.

I think the only reason Stowers in in CF is because Diaz is injured and McKenna is up here. What other candidates are there in Norfolk to play CF right now? I think we're selling low on Cedric right now. He and Hays also have 4years, including this year, of service time left. They also provide the defense needed with the new dimensions. I expect the trade chips to be among Santander and one of Mancini/Mountcastle. I think Hays and Mullins stay, for now.
Rizer was out there a bunch earlier in the year before he got moved on 5/10. But I believe you are correct, and that he is out there out of necessity currently.

With Stowers gettin all the reps in CF recently, I’ve been wondering if they try to package Mullins together with Mancini to maximize return. What’s Miamis DH & 1B scenario look like ?

By the way, he never should have swung at that ankle-high pitch today, and was lucky that Choi botched it. Odor practically fell over backwards after golfing at that ball.
Choi botched it because he swung at that pitch. That ball was top spun like nothing I’ve ever seen before, it stuck to the ground like Velcro.
With that said, he had no business swing at that pitch lol

Yes but Buster sounds as petty as Peter and that's never a good look.
I don't think Mike cares.
I don’t think Mike cares either, which is precisely why he should not have his # retired. That’s only reserved for a few special players.

The game looks real slow to him down there in AA, but for reasons you mentioned I imagine you are most likely correct.
