  1. Sure he could...and the article hints he has thought about it. But he didn't and the likelihood is that the money for 4 years is too much to walk away from. So....IF he is determined to stay...why not offer the remaining money to retire? Do you really think having Chris Davis for 4 more years is what a rebuilding President and GM are going to fight through? I don't. And I don't think anyone want's to be a part of hoping Chris Davis hates it enough to quit anymore than they should be foolish enough at this point to expect the new adventures of old Chris.
  2. I mean no one really thinks Chris Davis will give up money. Why can't the O's trade his retirement for a contract of equal money...just as guaranteed, but for non roster services?
  3. This is my feeling. There is no reason to give money away. That is a commitment both sides have made. The only real question is how long are the new Orioles willing to let him stay...either sitting or hating baseball. Money is gone, if Im the new Pres or GM, I let CD know he is either ready for a roster spot at the end of camp or he is done. Then I offer Davis a guaranteed personal service contract to the Baltimore Orioles in the exact amount of his remaining contract for 10 years of service....for the small act of his retirement. Honestly it's a win for everyone. He gets his money. The Orioles can find a way to use him and he is off the roster. Done.

  5. I know...of course. Your just crotchety
  6. It all starts with liking yourself Corn....and then you will be able to like others. ?
  7. I am perfectly fine with this but at the same time I had no problem a few years back pulling for the cubs to get one. It’s good for baseball. Yankee fans are always tough but 25 titles does that. I always struggle with Red Sox fans. Than can not only be insufferable but also there seems to be many that really are just on the bandwagon. I think winning 108 games and knocking off 2 100+ win teams and not losing a home game is damn impressive. But I don’t want to hear about it for 5 years so.... Go Dodgers!!!!
  8. Maybe, but that was much earlier even before his big contract.
  9. 2017 O’s lost something and clearly the 2018 never had it. But I still wonder what blew that clubhouse up. Maybe they just ran outta luck. Maybe it reached midnight and the horses turned back into mice. But seeing Miley, one has to wonder if he somehow stole the glass slipper and took it with him.
  10. So, a new manager would have a positive impact on his performance. Cool!
  11. Which to be honest he never fully recovered from.
  12. I used to hold this opinion as well, but this latest article has me beginning to waiver some. Chris Davis’ own words lead one to think that this is not going to change. And that his seeming in willingness to accept that change is needed is a problem. More importantly, Mancini Trumbo and Davis can’t coexist and properly evaluate the future and who fills which roles for the Orioles. There really is no credible scenario where Davis becomes more useful than Mancini or Trumbo. I think the question is this: Can the Orioles afford to slow the rebuild by extending the time afforded to Chris Davis to become something at 33 that he hasn’t been since he was 30? Davis may not be blocking a franchise first basemen but it’s clear, playing him at first is backing up into who plays where in the outfield. And if there is a commitment to being better at defense, keeping Davis blocks that goal in at least two spots. So the answer for me is probably not, unless I believe he can improve.
  13. No but there has never been a Chris Davis before. There are arguments for both sides, but I’d release Davis in spring training if I am not completely wowed. Money? It’s gone, the spot is important and can’t be wasted even til June next year. Nothing in the article inspires hope for a bounce back and his own words confirm what our eyes see. He is done. Free him and free yourself.
  14. Let's hope the man develops a tremendous appetite.
  15. His record will change every time he pitches....I don’t think your opinion will. ??
  16. Brooks continuing to play was financial even though in today's terms it wouldn't appear that way. It is hard to believe that guys who played the game at his level frequently needed jobs after baseball to support a family. According to baseball reference, in 1964, when Brooks won the AL MVP, his salary was $35,000. For the year. His last salary was $120,000 in 1977. In contrast, Chris Davis at $21MM and change earns $130,000 every day whether the Orioles play him or not.
  17. To be fair, I am stating what I believe will be his position. I agree with you. My point is I don't think he is getting better and I don't think he will be shamed out of the game and I don't think he retires or takes a buyout that reduces him financially. Nor do I think he should. I DO think the Orioles almost have to find someway to get value before they swallow and I think putting him in the bullpen would be the best way to do that. Of course, If I were a new GM, Id simply cut him. If he cannot work to improve at this stage, he would decline even if he were good. And his body of work increasingly says his good years were outliers and we know that at least one was tainted. Why remind the franchise of its mistake every single day. Thanks Chris. Bye.
  18. I do not expect Chris Davis to lesson the burden for Baltimore. Not by retiring, not by accepting a buyout. I think Chris will make every effort to earn the money and that it will be up to the Orioles to determine when that is no longer worth enduring. Personally, i think he is done and would like to see him gone, but I just do not think it is going to happen which is why I say put him in the pen. When he breaks...(see Weams' thread) you can pay him to be elsewhere.
  19. We mere mortals do this all the time. However, we are not under contract. NO Chris Davis is not going to take less money to stop playing. He might stop out of embarrassment or he may be motivated financially to take a different structure to his payment. But he is not walking away from the money that he is contractually owed nor should he.
  20. First of all I make sure I mention Scott Boras every day that I put Chris Davis in the lineup. Every day. Scott Boras' name is attached to one of the worst signings in MLB history. Then, if Im the Orioles I trot him out there every day until May of next year. If he doesn't improve...and he wont. I stick him in the bull pen and for two years I throw him every day. I have no doubt that if Davis can't hit..play the field or pitch, he and Boras might be more than slightly motivated to go away. I don't begrudge Davis. The Orioles are the ones who goofed here. But I'd be working very hard to make sure that Boras was more motivated to have this one go away. Or maybe Boras likes the idea of talking to owners about the time he got an owner to overpay for a used up player.
  21. I do not disagree, but it's a hell of a lot more useful than watching a pitch and walking back to the dugout.
