  1. It was very very good. It wasn't this good:
  2. I continue to think this is being too overblown. I mentioned yesterday that part of this was to take attention away from the fact that Mountcastle has probably been told he will no longer be a 3B. That is not necessarily good news for him, but the other side of this...is that the ML Manager is talking about him...which if I were being sent out of camp and no one was talking, might make me start to think about getting my insurance or real estate license. Good guy or not, hard headed or not. I am pretty sure Ryan feels pretty good about his spring. His conversation with Buck is known to us purely because Buck wanted part of it known so that we could react as we have. Well played Buck, as usual.
  3. Yes exactly....people are missing the point that Buck going public is to do two things... 1) He is keeping expectations down while speaking positively about a prospect. 2) He is diverting your attention from the fact that he was probably told he is not a third baseman...of course he didn't say that publicly. But you see...you will never be in Baltimore without a ticket....with or without Buck. And that was his point. No?
  4. I disagree with this. Or at least what I think you mean by it... I think Buck is a professional and as such has years of demonstrating respect. Respect for the game, respect for the organization, respect for his guys and respect for the role he plays as manager. How that respect plays out on any given person or issue is not likely to be done by a cookie cutter. Kinda like saying a parent should love all of their kids the same. I have 4, I love each of them with all of my heart. They are completely different individuals and have different strengths and weaknesses. As such they are not necessarily treated the same in every situation. I don't think this would qualify as embarrassing an employee in public. Without question he is calling out a player...and reinforcing it by saying he has had similar conversations with Hays. But I am almost certain that Buck would say that he is trying to do the kid a favor...because he genuinely cares about him having success. Now, I think he did try to embarrass say...Kim while here...he basically said I don't think he can play here. That was a shot at DD I feel certain, and not at Kim. Honestly, I think you are just being crotchety and snarky here...so I will move on since we have both made our points.
  5. You have been spot on numerous times today. You should really think about having a blog or a website or something...
  6. Well, I have no idea how the word seriously appears in a post of yours, But given that the Orioles have 3 actual starting pitchers in camp, a bunch of rule 5 guys and Chris Tillman, the above may well be the most technically accurate post of your career.
  7. I must admit. I do enjoy watching some of us turn positive for almost no reason at all...well you know...other than it's spring. And yes, I am painfully aware of the irony of the above being considered positive. I'm killing myself....lol.
  8. And I guess that in reality, if they both suck...Garcia gets 10M for 1 year and Cashner gets 16M for 2. Again, if that us winning and great job by the Jays. I don't see it.
  9. Mistyped and I corrected....Cashner is really a three year deal....at least by what I meant. Garcia is guaranteed 10M if I read the 2M buyout for year two. No?
  10. ??? Am I missing something here? Jamie Garcia gets a two year deal that is really a one year deal. Cashner gets a two year deal that is really a three year deal. And it is the Jays who have done well? If these guys are both simply average, Garcia is gets 18M for 2 years and Cashner 16M for 2 years. If they suck, Cashner gets 16M and Garcia gets 18M for 2 years. If they are the two best pitchers in baseball over the next two years, Garcia gets rich with someone else, and the Orioles get Cashner for a third year at still bargain bin pricing. This is not great signing by any means, but the creativity here is border line brilliant and the author of this article, Craig Edwards, is either just blind with hatred to write the line you quote, or is an idiot. Mr. Edwards, if I misunderstand your math, my apologies will be forthcoming....
  11. I agree 100%. He may never win a Cy Young but if he can be in the ball park of 5.0 ERA and eat some innings, he will have earned his contract. He could max out and still be a bargain. He could do almost nothing....and still be better than much of last years rotation. IF ONLY we could sign or trade for one more who is better...then let em fight it out for 5 with or without Tillly.
  12. So...definately better than last year...
  13. Thanks for the insight Weams!!!
  14. I'm not going to push...but I have to ask...so even assuming additional loses of say $10M in '17 added to the $2.1M in '16. $12M+/- in loses for a say $1.5 Billion franchise is neither broke nor is it in "not good financial shape". I concede that your knowledge of where the Orioles are for '17 and headed into '18 is certainly better than mine. But......broke? Poor financial shape? WHY? Attendance vs payroll do not account for much more than the number I use above. Admittedly for financial numbers it is heavy on the back of the envelope. But also what about the MLB payout....I just cant find anything to square your statement. I trust you, so this concerns me.
  15. If the Orioles are broke they are being mismanaged. See this article on the Orioles in Forbes in April of 2017: https://www.forbes.com/teams/baltimore-orioles/ The Orioles had an operating loss in 16 and I presume they did in 17 as well. The operating loss was $2.1 million on revenues of $253M. Of course the value of the franchise rose 18% to 1.175 Billion. While the article that is attached mentions the legal battle over MASN, it does not give a value to MASN nor does it stipulate if it is counted in the valuation though I presume it is. Broke is not where the Orioles are..cash poor and needing to get to a lower expense number? Yeah, seems most of baseball is working on that and the Orioles should too. But we should not be using terms that will mislead folks here. The Orioles are not broke. Unless you know something... If they are? Wouldn't that increase the odds that my hunch that they are preparing for sale is on point?
  16. Yep....I guess he isn't just sitting around after all.
  17. He is a good sign. He isn't a TOR and your post below is definitely cause for alarm....but still. Cheap healthy inning eater. This is a good deal...and we didn't trade anyone or have to lose a pick. Is he good well...he is ok. This is scary. I know you are joking, but I think this fits the sale mode and Dan is leaving when his contract is up no matter what Angelos wants. He doesn't get the $2/20 but he CAN double it if he performs. This is very good work by GM. Or Brady....
  18. Sir, and I use that word intentionally. Setting a high bar is something I am comfortable saying that almost every single one of us has. That said, we all have different opinions regarding how that bar can be reached and even sometimes what the impediments are to achieving said goal. Your post seems childish, not because it expresses disdain for the GM and the move, but because it implies that the signing is the high point of the offseason. You want DD gone. Ok you made your point. You are not alone in that thought, but I do not share that opinion necessarily. But if you would like your opinions to be taken seriously, I would suggest that in the future, maybe you offer them with more grounded reason than presented above. The O'Roarke move most certainly will not take the O's to the promised land. But on all counts, it seems like a well constructed depth move for the organization. And if you were merely trying to make a joke, most here are accustomed to "Print the playoff tickets now..." Good luck and I hope my feedback is taken without offense. Cheers.
  19. I always thought the trade was a good one. A risk that you take if you think you have a chance to win it all. It didn't pan out that way, but not because Miller wasn't good. I always thought we should have tried to keep him though, even if only to bid up the ultimate price someone paid...sorta like Detroit did to us.
  20. Well if last nights line up didn't today's certainly does. Sad. But it's time.
