  1. I expect that Rubenstein would purchase a minority share with an option to purchase a controlling interest at a later date, which could be upon the death of Peter Angelos. Although not exactly the same circumstances, Steve Biscotti bought his controlling interest in the Ravens by exercising an option. Specifically, he purchased 49% of the Ravens in 2000 and then exercised an option to buy the remaining 51% in 2004. The option price of $325M was already negotiated when the original agreement was reached. This provided the Ravens with an influx of operating cash and it could be a similar scenario here.
  2. Good prediction, especially considering the much discussed tax savings if the majority sale is after Peter Angelos passes. However, I am not sure how anyone can rely on anything John Angelos says given his recent history of misleading statements.
  3. Well, if old Honest John Angelos said it that’s good enough for me.
  4. I did that after the 2012 season ended and it was awesome. A large group of folks met up at OPACY and cheered the players when they got off the bus. Not sure if they took a bus from the stadium to the airport.
  5. I take the 162 game test over the short series. It’s baseball and even the best teams can, and will, look bad over a 1-2 week stretch. The Rangers went 4-16 in late August/September. Did you see the Rays v Rangers series? Tampa played some of the worst baseball that you could imagine. The Dodgers are on the verge of getting swept after winning 100 games.
  6. I am not blaming the O’s performance on the 5 day layoff. I do think that 5 days is too long of a break, but that doesn’t explain or excuse the last two starts. I think that they had two really bad starts against a really good offensive club. And I think people were talking about how tired the bullpen was at the end of the 20-something game stretch with no days off. But that was resolved after Means and Gibson put up 7+ innings in back to back starts.
  7. Well, baseball is different than other sports. Now, you always take the bye b/c it’s a 100% chance of advancing. But I do think that its a disadvantage to have 5 days off. With that said, game 1 that bats were cold, but pretty similar to the last week’s worth of games. Grayson’s start was awful under any circumstances and is going to be a loss almost every time. How do you win walking 11? Likewise, Kremer was a disaster tonight. The at bat against Lowe had a ton of foul balls, but he was missing his spot by a foot (Adley’s calling for a fast ball up and in and its low and away and gets fouled off).
  8. Kremer is missing spots by a foot. Grayson did the same thing. Literally the two worst starts back to back all season. And the Rangers are not missing the mistakes, which are many.
  9. Kremer is missing his spots by a pretty wide margin.
  10. The game is on Fox (the network). Not FS1.
  11. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant by “the modern game.” I agree with most of your take. In general, players are more physically fit than players of yesteryear. But I do not think its safe to assume that Jorge Mateo is the faster than someone else simply because that person played 20 or 30 years ago. For example, I do not believe anyone in MLB is as fast as either Bo Jackson or Deon Sanders were even though they played in the 80s and early 90s. And that’s not old man back in my day nonsense. Bo Jackson’s pre-draft 40 yard time was 4.13. Likewise, I do not assume that Mateo is faster than someone like Alan Wiggins, who is the fastest Oriole that I remember other than Mateo. They are/were both lightning fast and any difference is likely negligible.
