  1. Exactly - and if Robertson emerges or someone like Bannon or Urias gets called up mid season you have depth
  2. If you watch highlights of him in the infield you’ll see he’s a little bit better defensively than Mountcastle was haha .
  3. I like the fact that he plays the infield and the outfield I like the fact he’s a contact hitter I like that fact that he’s played in the AL East I like the fact that he can get on base - .342 career obp. And higher than that in the milb I like the fact that he was a shortstop that was drafted in the first round here’s an article on his season last year https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mccoveychronicles.com/platform/amp/2020/11/20/21583274/san-francisco-giants-daniel-robertson-season-review
  4. I’d like to see what Robertson could do everyday with 400-500 at bats. Maybe he is just a utility player or maybe he could turn into something else. If we were contending I wouldn’t consider signing him .And if we aren’t signing someone like Andrelton Simmons or Gregorios why not give him the opportunity to see what he does with it . It’s not going to be a needle moving type of transaction . I am not expecting it to be. But he could turn out to have some value for us in an area (middle infield ) where we need it .
  5. Because he can play multiple infield positions plus the outfield . I like his versatility and I like the career .342 obp.
  6. I’d buy low on Villar then . I like his game and agree he’s not the best defensively at short but your’re either picking that or signing someone like galvis who has a career obp under .300. I’d also like to see how Robertson could handle short . If he could maybe Villar at second and Sanchez at third . I think they could make some kind of combination work defensively with those three . No to Galvis
  7. I am guessing that’s what it probably will take to sign Villar . I have no idea what his market is but I would think we could get him and Robertson for about 7 mm . No to galvis .
  8. In Roch’s column this morning he mentions a potential reunion with Johnathan Villar . I say sign Villar for 1 year 4 mm and Daniel Robertson 1 year 2-2.5 , get 2 starters ( major or minor league deals ) and let’s head to spring training . I actually like both Villar and Robertson and they would complement our lineup well . I also think Robertson could play everyday and do a decent job . good balance In this lineup : 3b Daniel Robertson cf Cedric Mullins SS Johnathan Villar dh Trey Mancini ( dh could be rotated between players RF Anthony Santander 1b Ryan Mountcastle LF Austin Hays 2b Yolmer Sanchez C Pedro Severino ( to be replaced maybe with Adley Rutschman later in year ) in my opinion this is a good lineup - speed at top , power in middle , pretty strong defensively .
  9. Yes OPS reveals more than OBP. But you also have to take into account the needs of your team . We have so many players who fit the Adam jones mold of a baseball player . Good player can slug with the best of anyone on any given night but have a career obp of about .320. Do you know how much better our offense would be if we had just 2 or three guys that could get on base ahead of Mountcastle , Mancini , Santander and later Rutschman ? Think Markakis , roberts types and not jones Trumbo . I believe Cronenworth could bring some of that . And if not we have dealt from surplus , we have a guy that could be a super utility player all over the field and could help us some in the near term . I really don’t see the downside here . This is all based on mutual interest of the padres of course .
  10. Would this trade work to get Cronenworth ? padres get : yusniel Diaz or Austin Hays and Alexander wells Os get Jake Cronenworth padres get a major league or close to major league ready outfielder and pitching prospect that may or may not pan out orioles get : shortstop of the immediate future or if doesn’t work out a player that could play cf or second base at worst . They would finally also have a legit lead off hitter . if I am Elias after the Darvish trade went down first call I make is to San Diego to see if he’s available . He’s the kind of player this team sorely needs and what Elias has been trying to acquire if you look at his drafts and trades
  11. They are loaded with shortstops - we are loaded with outfielders - may be a match
  12. Don’t know if they would - just trying to think of more productive options than someone like Galvis . It would be worthwhile for them to explore it .
  13. I saw the Padres were making a serious run at Ha Seong Kim . If that is the case I wonder if they would consider trading Jake Cronenworth who I would think would make an excellent addition to our team. He played shortsop and second base and if they get Ha Seong Kim I would think he would be their be their second baseman with shortstop and third base already filled with Machado and Fernando Tatis . If available what would it take to get him . I would think the Os could get him at a reasonable price .354 on base percentage last year . Put him at short . But could also cover other infield spots as well . Thoughts ? I am just looking at other options besides others such as Freddy Galvis .
  14. Daniel Robertson 1 year plus option - . Stick him at short . Can also play 2nd and 3rd
  15. After researching many of the potential candidates to take over at shortstop I think Daniel Robertson may be our best option Here’s why : - cost effective - He will probably cost around 3 mm . That’s less than Iglesias - he can play multiple positions - he came up as a shortstop but has played 3b , 2b and left field - he gets on base - Os could potentially put him atop the lineup and the lead off problem could be solved for a year - he’s played in our division. - this one isn’t a deal breaker if he hadn’t but I think it certainly helps his cause - he came up from the Oakland As farm system as a top prospect - as a shortstop . Working counts and getting on base is drilled into their heads in this system and we need more of these type of guys in ours -could be here for more than just this year if he establishes himself - as a starter or as a super utility guy thoughts? - I’d also like to hear some negatives anyone has heard . Haven’t really heard or read of any .
  16. Was somewhat surprised Zach Pop was not added to the 40 man. I understand the additions of Diaz, Baumann, Lowther, Wells , Mattson, and Bannon but I would have thought someone like Wynns may have gotten dfa’d for Pop. Which leads me wonder 1) Do they think they can’t get Pop through the Rule 5 as he is just coming off surgery and 2) Because Wynns was kept as of now does this mean Severino or Sisco may leave later ?
  17. All he’s gotta do is stay healthy . No injuries next year . He may not be able to sustain a high obp but neither did Adam Jones . I actually like him better in the corner outfield spot and I think that would be better for over the long haul health wise . I like the defensive alignment of Hayes in left , Mullins in center and Santander in right for now . If Mullins can keep hitting I’d like him in that lineup for now .
  18. You rotate him between first base and DH and pay him the amt he would get in arbitration . You rotate Mountcastle between lf and dh and have him full in occasionally at first . You release Chris Davis and eat the 42mm plus on the remainder and you trade Núñez for what you can get . starting lineup Mullins cf Hays lf Santander rf Mountcastle dh Mancini 1b Ruiz 3b ( at this point I think he’s AAAA but best we have defensively ) Severino - replaces by Adley in sept Alberto - start him there - if he struggles start Vailaka - also intrigued by Vavra - 2b obtained from givens trade maybe September ? Iglesias - option to be picked up
  19. For me this was the worst loss of the year. At bats were weak. Hitters were swinging at balls way out of the zone but the worst part of the night was the defense .i like Alberto but he has absolutely no range at second base . Urias comes up , first game up makes an error and the two Ruiz and Stewart make errors on routine plays . On the positive side I thought Akin pitched ok.
  20. From what I’ve read Diaz can play the outfield - giving him a leg up on Stewart and maybe Santander . I believe he played centerfield some in the dodger system
  21. For me the starting outfield gigs are going to those players that 1) can play defense ( pitching and defense still wins championships ) 2) can produce at the plate (obp, power , hit ) 3) can stay healthy It seems that all of the guys that are in the mix meet one or two of these criteria but I don’t believe any one of these players exhibit all three . Of all them I think Austin Hays has a chance to meet all three but he’s gotta stay healthy . I really like Mullins game a lot and I really like the tools he brings atop the lineup. But his arm is very weak for center field and the jury is still out whether he will hit enough . Mountcastle can hit / hit with power but his defense is suspect in the of for a contending team . Santander’s range is ok but I don’t think he’ll ever have an obp above .320 because of his approach at the plate . All these players have some kind of deficiency . Hayes , Mullins and Mountcastle may end up being the best overall combination. ( combination of speed power and good defense ). It’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out .
  22. With the emergence of the surplus of outfielders the Orioles have I realize now Santander may be on the outside looking in come 2022 or even as early as 2021 . Here is what we have Mountcastle LF - should play somewhere everyday . Left field or dh Mullins - All three positions - fast but weak arm Hayes - great tools , needs to stay healthy Stewart - good eye at plate , limited defensively Mancini - really should not be an outfielder at this point -should be at 1b full time next season ( Davis will play depending on match ups) Santander - corner outfielder . 20+ hr power , limited defensively Others : Diaz, McKenna , later on Kjerstad I think the best outfield we could field for right now would be : Hayes , Mullins , Mountcastle . When Diaz is ready Diaz takes over rf from Hayes, Mullins goes on bench and Hayes moves to center . This would happen end of 2021 santander becomes trade chip if Diaz works out
  23. I think it’s too early to trade him . 12 ml appearances is way too small a sample size
  24. Yep that’s why you hold on to him - to see what he is capable of .
  25. And in the minor leagues he was a starter . He went multiple innings . I want to see more of a sample size for one inning at the Ml level . He also strikes me as a personality suited for late inning relief . Sort of an even keel guy adept at handling failure - a lot like his dad was . That’s an important quality in a reliever , particularly a closer .
