  1. It's just ridiculous he's gaming the service time of a fringe top 100 player. I can't recall a similar circumstance.
  2. Just going to take this chance to link to one of my favorite all time Fangraph pieces. It's on Givens, Britton and O'Day. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/what-the-baltimore-bullpen-can-teach-us-about-arm-action/
  3. Because he agreed to a lesser amount of money instead of going back to school.
  4. He signed quickly (for a Boras client)and less than what the Jays could have paid. You think it is reasonable to think he would have sat out with 700K more on the table?
  5. It was like so hush hush They were so quiet about it And then the next thing you know
  6. I agree. Which is why saying something like Elias is the highest paid first time GM isn't very meaningful.
  7. And how many are first time GMs? Those contracts would be better comparison.
  8. Be that as it may, comparing what an executive vice president makes and what someone who is solely a GM makes isn't an accurate comparison. Myself, I think contemplating ownership's willingness to spend is as valid a topic as anything else when we haven't had games since last October.
  9. And then the next CBA blows it all up anyway.
  10. They didn't get Bitsko anyway. If they had convinced him to sign for the 700K saving and went over the allotment they might have snagged one of them. It certainly doesn't look like he would have refused to sign for slot.
  11. So he signed for over 700K less than the Orioles' slot allotment for the number two pick.
  12. They were going to be added in any case.
  13. Reaction to other teams adding 2020 draftees to their roster.
  14. I wasn't talking about the draft.
  15. It's apples to oranges. He's an executive VP. Of course he would be making more.
  16. That you know how to bold things? So someone who was hired as an executive vice president makes more than prior first year general mangers? Shocking.
  17. Giving him control of front office hires is irrelevant to the point I am making. If you have evidence that Sig is pulling in 5M a year I'll change my mind.
  18. They had to hire someone. They didn't give him Carte Blache, it's pretty obvious he's under spending restraints and Davis is a thing. They didn't have a GM. You need a GM if you want to win or if you want to suck every dollar you can out of the franchise. Once they start actively spending money on the ML team we will know. Before that happens it's speculation that it will.
  19. Yes. Not sure why you are asking. We don't know what the actual priorities are for ownership. The main goal might be to make as much money as possible off the team. We know that Peter was willing to spend in certain situations. We don't know that about the sons. Not yet.
