  1. First off that isn't what you said earlier. Secondly no. It could be addressed in the intervening years. Lots of moving parts that you don't want to acknowledge. How many players signed to four year free agent deals are still being paid solely by that team in the fourth year? You are simplifying things well past the point of common sense.
  2. I think you are missing the point I was trying to make. It was stated as an "indisputable fact" that 20M spent on outside players would result in 20M not being available to retain players. I used the increase in attendance (and other revenue streams) of the Padres as evidence that the fact could and should be disputed. If you spent 20M on outside players and they increase revenue by 5 million the actual cost is 15 million. That's it. I'm not advocating doing what the Padres did. Just saying that what was proclaimed an "indisputable fact" isn't. How much is the Rangers' revenue going to increase due to their free agent spending last offseason?
  3. I admitted as much????? I thought I explained the example at a very basic level. Something was stated as an "indisputable fact" when it isn't. And you can't even admit it. No idea why you felt a need to mention that the O's will have a cap on their spending EVERY TEAM has a cap on their major league payroll. Even the Mets.
  4. But it isn't. You are assuming that the players signed don't increase revenue. The Padres aren't the best example considering their issues but you can't deny that bringing in outside talent caused an increase in revenue. At one point they were on the receiving end of profit sharing, last season they were second in attendance. Their attendance last year was up over a million from a decade ago.
  5. I think all of us understand that a finite amount will be spent on payroll. That's true of every team. Money being spent on outside acquisitions is not the sole determining factor in how long home grown player will stay with the team. This isn't children's blocks.
  6. Because ownership will set aside money not spent now to pay for guys later! Because that has ever happened.
  7. Oh so you are looking at one factor and ignoring others? Right, not much common sense there. They are not going to make any moves based purely off of the cost of contracts.
  8. It's faulty logic. You are assuming that they won't be moved to maximize return and will only be moved when they are not longer financially tenable. That's not showing a lot of common sense.
  9. You have no evidence that it would hasten anything. They are likely to be sent packing either way.
  10. Without an apology to those even older than I, as a member of "Generation X" I have found more of a sense of entitlement in those older than myself than those younger than myself.
  11. I see no evidence that anyone is anti-Orioles or has a vendetta against the team. The Angelos family on the other hand...
  12. Sure it doesn't. Of course it doesn't. But if you don't win a ring and you don't spend you have to question how important winning really was.
  13. I'm going to disagree with your interpretation and even if you are correct, it wasn't perceived that way by the fanbase. He's not going to make a mistake like that again.
  14. Win or win the World Series? As fun as 2023 was I can't help but wonder if the playoffs would have gone better if the O's had done more at the deadline.
  15. I don't think any of us expecting him to make the same mistake he did last year with the lift off comment. This is more in line with my expectations for his interviews.
  16. I haven't looked at the stats. Anyone well regarded or just a volume deal?
  17. The By-line says February but it has a HR from June so...? https://www.theballparkguide.com/blog/2023/02/02/the-10-longest-home-runs-at-oriole-park-at-camden-yards-the-ballpark-guide/ 1. 18. I don't think Elias is going to base promotion decisions on winning RoY unless it is a minor tweak to what he was going to do anyway. With or without a pick Gunnar wasn't going to lose rookie status in 2021.
  19. Mariner, wants to get pulled after 90 pitches...I think it's Bedard.
