It is reality that oftentimes teams want....gasp...pitching. It's one of the issues I have with the hitters first, second and third approach Elias has been taking.

Because the other teams are also trying to sign these guys. You have 30 teams assuming no team is on on more than two that still doesn't leave enough slots for everyone to get two guys on the list. You don't have teams just sitting out anymore, the O's were the last train at that station.

I don't think other teams are that stupid. I'll agree that the initial asks could be higher.

This isn't other teams talking, it's Bowden. With the possible exception of the dysfunctional White Sox I haven't heard anything about teams trying to get more from the O's because of their farm system ranking. That'd be a pretty poor way for the other teams to conduct business, to turn down a strong offer just because the team could give up even more.

One season of post season ball with an early exit qualifies as year one of a dynasty now? Shouldn't we wait just a bit on that?

I get what you are saying but now factor in that you are not a Cohen type worth close to 20B and you are going to have to assume a substantial amount of debt to purchase the team. Can you afford that type of increase in cost? If you are viewing this as an investment, and I'm sure they are, it doesn't make sense to me to do it that way.

I wouldn't bet on an extra flow of cash. We might see a situation in which the team is purchased and is forced to carry a huge amount of debt. It's the way these things are done a lot of the time.

I factor it in, I don't use it exclusively. For instance I consider the 2014 team more successful than the 2023 team.

I don't agree. Holliday could make adjustments during the season, at the ML level, and win RoY. Look at Gunnar this season, he started off poorly, made adjustments and won unanimously.
