Watching him from the stands last night, he definitely looked tense. One thing that jumped out at both my wife and I, during pre-game stretches, he was mostly off by himself while the other infielders were chatting with each other. Maybe that's just how he likes to do things, but the impression that we got was that he's still on the outside looking in when it comes to bonding with the team. I was hoping to see a little more signs of someone like Gunnar taking him under his wing. I might be over-analyzing it, but the whole game he came off as nervous and awkward. Even on his high-five with Gunnar after the HR in the 10th. Hopefully things will loosen up a bit after he gets a couple of hits and feels like he's contributing.
That's been my impression of him too from the MiLB times I've seen him. He seems a bit more shy/aloof. Not the center of attention extrovert type like the crew ahead of him (Adley, Westburg, Cowser, evem Hunnar). Nothing wrong with it either. One can hope it means he won't seek out a large market team...
Though the relational dynamics in the minors that can be a bit more 'stars' and 'scrubs' if that's how one views things...

Last time up Jansen painted the outside corner with cutters on the first two pitches. I thought it was a pretty decent AB. He didn’t really get anything good to hit there. He looks tense to me in the field and at bat. That would be pretty normal. Maybe he is human? Lol
Agreed. We're on the same page. BoSox pitchers made some really good pitches early in counts to get ahead. Holliday had some really good takes after getting behind.
Others have posted and McDonald said it a few times, Boston is leading the charge of countering the FB hunting trend. Holliday had some quality PAs all things considered.

Can Jackson PLEASE stop soft tossing throws to first on routine ground balls?? It's like he's throwing change ups to Mounty. The hitters have come close to beating a few times. He certainly must have shown more when he played shortstop.
Came to say this too. He doesn't have to throw them hard, but pushed throws can get wild.
I liked his hustle getting down the line on the pop-up, but would have liked to have seen a better attempt at the catch. It would have been a tough play regardless.
Some good takes at the plate last night. Would have liked to see him more aggressive swinging earlier in the count, but he knows what he's doing more than I do.

Am I the only one who thought Wong hit a pretty good pitch?
Nope.

I want to know the full story on this. How much did Boras play agent for his company over his clients?

Mateo, surely, no? I have no idea why Holliday would start tomorrow other than it being his t-shirt / home debut night but I doubt that factors much into decisions...obviously he can come in when Hall comes out.
I guess it's a good low/mid-level litmus test for the "tough lefty" scale I suppose.

Tomorrow against DL Hall, it'll be interesting to see who between Hays and Cowser they put in RF.
I figure we get DH Santander and O'Hearn in reserve starting the game.
Will it be Holliday or Mateo?

PSA: 90-92 MPH is pretty normal even for good LHP. Plenty of things to point to in his profile with concern, but I don't think that's the red flag people think it is.
The 4S has been hit hard in the 28 times he has throw it though. A little worse run value than the CH. Career worse K% and BB% has led to a bad WHIP too.
My bad. This was about Irvin, not Means...

2024 Red Sox

Poor wording on my part. Just happened to be there...
Last time I was there was 20 years ago. They have a ton of Marijuana places around there now mixed with the bars. Mixing suds and buds is a dangerous combo.

Adley's lack of power
Do you mean lack of OPS? Because he's squaring up the ball fairly well. A lot of red on the Savamt dashboard.

I stumbled into his debut at Fenway last year. He's an athlete for sure. A little uptick offensively and he'll add a ton of value. Kudos to him!

They can't all be hot at once... but these are my questions at this point:
Holliday's acclimation
Hays vs. LHP
Santa's lack of barrels
Cedric's HR happy/high FBswing

I highly foubt PIT trades Bednar in 2024. They are a playoff caliber team.
Agree with @ThisIsBirdlandabout Hays. But let's see how things go for another few weeks.

We haven't done too bad with Bradish and Grayson, it would seem.
True. But looking forward, one or more of those slotting in behind (ahead?) Kremer would be great.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a guy come to the plate with as many runners on base in a two game span as Cowser did the last two games.
1. Runner on 2B. Run-scoring double.
2. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. Two RBI double.
3. Runner on 2B. Strikeout.
4. Bases loaded. Sac fly.
5. Bases loaded. Strikeout.
6. Led off inning. Walk.
7. Bases loaded. Strikeout.
8. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. Two RBI single.
9. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. Strikeout.
10. Bases empty. Ground out.
10 PA, 17 runners on base, 14 runners in scoring position. In the 8 PA with runners on base, he was 3 for 7 with two doubles, a single and a sac fly, good for 6 RBI all told.
OBP still matters. Especially to the guy up next.

I can't imagine O'Hearn or Santander will be on the team next year, so I think 2025 you will see them roll out a 100% homegrown lineup pretty regularly.
Good chance we see it this year. Especially after the rosters expand.
-
Is this where the "who's up next?" conversation takes place?
Urias loses the bulk of his PAs. But would they rather have him on the bench or work to get a prospect PAs?
SSS LHP splits are still a concern.
Cowser seems to be in the strong side for now. Will they play Cowser, Westburg, and Holliday for the bulk of games going forward? Will they accelerate the Rookie Integra Plan by adding a 4th higher ceiling to pay the rookie tax? If so, when?
NORFOLK SLAUGHTERHOUSE option:
Mayo - Dam the torpedoes, full steam ahead with the big O (offense for you dirty birds)! Bumping Westburg to a utility role? Or max DH time with O'Hearn in spot RF duties?
TEAM BUILD option:
Norby - I think he'll be a fine LF option or playable RHH 2B if Westburg is the 3B. He could be some type of Hays/Urias role. Fits nice with minimal impact if Westburg is core for '24.
BROKEN ROADS:
Feels like these are buried for now...
HK - back to Mounty/O'Hearn/Santander at 1B/DH/RF. Tough role to break into on this team.
Stowers - same deal. LHP splits are a positive considering the team's struggles.
Orioles attendance 2024

Does this account for early season game averages from 2023? If not, I wouldn't be shocked if attendance is up in general around the league at year end.
