Sound like a lot of arrogance from Clemens.  Last year Elias added Gibson, Frazier and Irvin and everyone told him he didn't do enough.    And the O's won 101 games.  This offseason Elias adds Kimbrel and left Gibson, Frazier, Hick, Flaherty and Fuji go and Clemens says he has not done enough.

Maybe Clemens should shut up and consider that Elias knows what he is doing or at least praise Elias for opening space for his blue chip prospects.

C'mon.  The Orioles did not win 101 games because of Gibson, Frazier, and Irvin.  It had nothing to do with Elias's moves in the offseason and who knows, had he gotten a good starter (I was screaming for Eovaldi), the Orioles might not have been swept in the playoffs.

This offseason is no different. Yes, the Orioles are good, and will be good this year.  But that does not excuse Elias from failing to upgrade the team.  Kimbrel for Bautista is a big downgrade, Means' health is still a question mark, and who knows how the prospects will all perform (Cowser struggled last year).  He should be making moves to improve the team.

Hyun Jin Ryu - 1 Year 14 Million

    Mike Clevinger - 3 Year 52 Million

    James Paxton - 1 year 14 Million

    Michael Lorenzen - 2 year 28 Million

    Alex Wood - 2 year 30 Million

    Trevor Bauer - 1 Year 6 Million

Ryu and Bauer work for me.  Paxton is okay.  The rest, pass.

JA wont spend money? I wont go to sleep on him just. Remember he was the one who hired Mike Elias, and has spent 10s of millions on internal modern analytics, scouting and player development. Thats part of it another part is the 10s of millions hes spent to bring the orioles into dramatic relevance (VS.  5 years ago) in the international player market. Another part is every ARB eligible Orioles was tendered (= pay raise) Has he extended anybody? not yet. What hes hasn't done (other than the early PA years) is do an Orioles specialty since the late 90,s handing one stupid ass FA contract right after the other> Hopefully those days are over for us. He should be applauded for that

If this is John Angelos or one of his cronies:  Hi.  The vast majority of Baltimore strongly dislikes you.

I don’t know why anyone would be comfortable with the Os pen.

Hell, go beyond the pen..look at the rotation too.

How many players do you comfortably feel are going to be above average in 2024?

but but but... everyone is guaranteed to  repeat their success in 2024 AND stay healthy!

Oh by no means was my comment meant to be an endorsement of Lorenzen. His drop in Ks ever since he transitioned back to being a starter is alarming.

Agreed.  I think his no-hitter, while fun, is possibly increasing his value and worth in many people's minds.  Hopefully not ME and co.

I get what you're saying, but Irvin only had four starts post all-star break. That's a pretty small sample size of not sucking.

Fair point.  Definitely not guaranteeing anything from Irvin.  But I remember Lorenzen from his Cincy and LA days (used to hit too I think) and am just not all that enamored with him.  He will probably cost 1 year $10M, whereas Irvin is dirt cheap.

I don't see Lorenzen as any more reliable than Irvin.

I don't think signing a 1 year back of rotation starter has much point, but if they do go for it, I'd rather see a more boom or bust guy like Ryu or Paxton. As opposed to a guy like Lorenzen who is maybe more predictable but has a career ERA as a SP in the mid 4s.

Agreed.  Get Cease or Valdez, or just roll with Irvin, who was perfectly solid last year after the rough April.

    Trade offers:

    1) Cowser and Ortiz

    2) Kjerstad and Ortiz

    3) Cowser, Ortiz and Povich

    4) Kjerstad, Ortiz, Povich

    5) Westburg, Beavers, Povich and Norby

Are you make some, all or none of those deals?

I begrudgingly do 1, 2, and 5.  No on 3 and 4, since 1 and 2 is basically at my limit.

That's exactly what I said.  "Now, there's another Organization in serious & deep discussions.  One of the 2 or 3 best Orgs in all of baseball the last 8-9 seasons."

Online GM's don't deal with reality and struggle with facts.

So you've heard something about Povich as part of a package to Houston for Valdez? What else have you heard? (Taking this with a grain of salt but interested to hear what you'd have to say).

Elias and O's fans living rent free in their heads right now. They've more or less said the return for trading Cease is all they have to look forward to for the next year or so. A perceived disappointing return will be pretty tough for some of them.

True, but I remember in 2008, all we had to look forward to was the return for Erik Bedard lol.  I kind of pity them.

There's hoarding prospects and being a prospect hoarder (like the TV show/psychological condition). I'm really hoping he isn't the latter, but you're right. This offseason will tell us. He can't possibly use all those players. Some of them need to go.

Makes sense to all of us.  Let's see if Elias thinks the same way (obviously you have to account for teams like the White Sox, Mariners, and Marlins demanding too much, in which case Elias should hold onto the propsects).

I don't think the O's will spend the money to get Stroman but I can see them waiting out Lorenzen for a 1/10 with a one year option with a 1M buyout.

    Britton's projection

    1 year, $11 million

    Which is pathetic of them.

Not saying you're wrong, but would again show the Orioles are not serious about actually upgrading the team in the offseason.

Here's a question. Assuming these three trades are on the table, which one are you making?

    1) Mountcastle + Willems for E. Cabrera

    3) Norby + Santander for M. Meyer

    4) Basallo + Cowser for Luzardo

    1 all day for me.

It will pick back up next week. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see one big transaction in the next couple of days but ultimately, it will start back up next week.

One of the insiders on the WS board said their GM isn’t even in the office this week, which is fairly normal for this time of the year.

Makes sense.  Most people aren't in the office where I work either (though I am, ugh), so only fair that GMs would too.

I'm not a fan of anyone involved in domestic abuse.   Agree with what @Aglets states above.   This would be a very disappointing signing in a number of ways.

Agreed.  Like Chapman, he would be very hard to root for.  It would be nice to see the Orioles target good players who aren't abusers

I recognize it's Bowden, but figured it was worth posting.

Feel like the Yankees have been extremely bullish on making this move.

The Giants throwing around confederate money ala Syd Thrift some 20+ years ago.  Struck out on Judge and Ohtani and now projected with highest offer but not a favorite for YY.
