  1. A couple of high school pitchers that I don’t think the O’s will take
  2. yeah, but Holliday will slot in above him, so 9
  3. I wouldn't presume to put "words" in Tony's mouth, but I have a hard time seeing either of them debuting over Kjerstad, so 10 at the highest
  4. Maybe this guy had a flash in the pan season, but he's also from a cold weather high school. If he's really just a late bloomer, and this is the hitter he is...especially if he can play 2b...this could be a massive steal
  5. Holliday I would presume will debut fairly high, but will be curious to see where the next highest ranked draft pick is
  6. It seems like he's an elite athlete who has never really focused on developing as a pitcher. Could be a total bust, could also be an untapped big time talent. I mean if you're really dreaming, Jacob DeGrom was a SS in college until starting to pitch as a junior
  7. Covid gave baseball players an extra year of eligibility, so he’s a senior but could return and play next year
  8. This Orioles fans: take BPA! don't cut under slot deals to save money for later! Also Orioles fans: We should have taken the massively over slot player in a later round!
  9. Really interesting pick. Sophomore eligible, played football, two way prospect with power, and hasn't pitched a ton but big fastball
  10. Yep, I don’t think he’s going to come up and look like cy young, but I want him to take his lumps this year, and grow for next year. A lot of harder throwers seem to take longer to really settle in, so my guess is Hall might be a lot better at 28 then he is now
  11. Yeah I can see the argument & it has validity. But you have to really like Porter. Given how unpredictable both the draft in general and hs pitchers are in particular…it makes me a bit gunshy
  12. They’ve saved a few hundred thousand at 1, and the extra pool money is several hundred thousand so they have maybe 1.2m extra to play with. I don’t think that gets you Porter, unless you also go way under with the entire rest of your draft. That’s a big risk. I think you maybe sign a few guys to over slot, but more in the range baumler and Mayo range with that savings (and keep in mind Wagner might be one of those guys). I think it’s fair to question the draft strategy in terms of who they took, while also acknowledging it’s not money saving.
  13. It’s going to take most of it. He’s apparently getting over 8m. This wasn’t an underslot pick.
  14. They haven’t gone under slot though, so I’m not sure what strategy you think they’re implementing
  15. I think you might get a little under with Fabian, but pretty sure Wagner will be over slot. I think at this point in the draft the orioles are very close to at slot. They haven’t really saved to do a big overslot deal
  16. You’re right, I looked at wrong slots So they’ve spent 13-13.5 mil and have 4-4.5 mil left
  17. Pittsburgh was able to sign Bubba Chandler for 3m last year, because they went almost 2m underslot with their #1 overall pick. The Orioles aren’t getting that kind of saving with Holiday
  18. The orioles can go up to about 17.7m if you include the 5% overspend Holiday deal is supposed to be over 8m, my guess is it takes about 6m to sign the three college players. So they’ve already spent about 14-14.5 of the draft pool. You take Porter in the third, and your draft is basically done. Might be more worth it to spread the remaining 3-3.5m out on a few 1m dollar guys (Especially given how risky pitching is)
  19. I would love to see the orioles take a pitcher, especially Porter. My guess is that a lot of the analytics devalue pitchers as compared to where more scout oriented teams have them. That said, you need to have pitchers on your minor league teams
  20. Wagner could also bet on himself, if he goes back to school, repeats his success, he’s in line to easily be a first round pick - maybe more, and he’ll still be a junior Your basic assumption seems to be you can lowball college guys bc they won’t go back to school. Fabian has little leverage it’s true, bc he returned to school. But my expectation is that Beavers and Wagner will be at least full slot
  21. They’ll probably abou take an up the middle college hitter. I’d love for them to take a pitcher. Zero idea why people think the last few picks are underslot. It’s a guy who was thought to be a potential first rounder, and a draft eligible sophomore coming off a great year
  22. I give up, the orioles are clearly allergic to drafting pitchers. New pan win every game 20-19
