I agree. The first 3-4 innings of our games have been hard to watch. A lot of strikeouts, weak groundballs, etc. Also., what I think that has really been hurting us - is that the bottom 3rd of the lineup with both Hays & Urias starting. They both have been almost free outs at the plate. and could not get on base or anything to get some momentum going and give the top of the lineup a chance to drive in runs. Hyde had to see this and how its costing us games and glad he made the switch. It was 100% necessary. But Yes - A lot of our hitters have been struggling but we haven't really had a chunk of the lineup pick up the slack. I think we are starting to see Cowser and Westburg get going and with the addition of Holliday at the 9 spot - The lineup should really start to click and start to produce.

Didn't Hyde already state that going forward Westburg, Holliday, Gunnar, and Cowser would be starting.... meaning Hays and Urias are now bench players.
-
There should be no debate, the lineup today should be: Henderson - 3B Adley - C Holliday - 2B Tony Taters - RF Mounty - 1B Mullins - CF Westburg - DH Cowser - LF Mayo - 3B But in reality - we are starting O'Hearn, Kemp, and Urias ....... good grief

Passan: MLB Must Act Now on Pitching Injuries
.500_OR_BETTER replied to Jagwar's topic in Orioles Talk
Look at what these "velocity" farm clinics are doing to young kids now. They advertise that they can increase your velo on all your pitches, etc. They are now having such young kids (I think even at ages 12 now) that can sign up for these camps and all they do is focus on pitching exercises that put so much torque and stress on their throwing arms. -
Who cares what the farm system rating is next year or two years from now. The farm system was built for the Orioles to be top contending team right now at this moment. Not two years from now. The top prospects are ready. What else left do they have to do or prove. The time is now. ME needs to move on from some of these guys (Hays, Urias, etc.).

This has nothing to do with the pitch clock and everything to do with velocity / spin rate. -
5-4 Start not horrible but should be better

We are in only in this position right now because we are not playing our best players in our organization. Honestly - How many more games are we going to go through with Hays, Urias, Mateo, and Kemp........ We need to bring up Holliday and another OF prospect. Although I am not opposed to bringing up Mayo as he can play 3B / 1B / DH. Westburg can slide into the super utility role. -
Gotcha! Figured that. Maybe they should be really cautious with Hays... that illness may be serious Maybe a trip to the 60 day IL just to be sure he'll be ok.
-
Hays ain't hammering anything right now.... He's currently striking out 30% of his AB's and he's currently 0-14 over the past 3 games with 4 K's. Yes, I know. It's a SSS but even in ST he was struggling.

I know - you can't change it but if i could it would be 100_WINS_OR_BETTER

He made is MLB debut last week against the Marlins, so 10K's might not be the norm. He's young and throws hard. I would say he's very similar to Grayson with a 97+ mph fastball as well as a 90+ mph changeup with movement.

I think we get a surprise lineup today. No Urias and Hays (crossing my fingers). Westy gets the start at 3B - Mateo at 2B. Gunnar - SS Adley - C Tony Taters - RF Mounty - 1B O'Hearn - DH Mullins - CF Cower - LF Westy - 3B Mateo - 2B
-
Bills traded Diggs to Houston. Carry on.
-
Will we see the 2023 Austin Hays return? Who knows... Right now, it does not look like it. He can't hit off-speed / breaking pitches right now and is not squaring up fastballs. While Hays should be the starter he should be on very thin ice with our young OF depth. At some point we are going to have to make moves but for now I guess we just wait and see how this all plays out..
-
This is getting frustrating... let the kid play Cowers RF > Santander RF Santander DH > O'Hearn DH Cower is an upgrade defensively over Tony Taters and Hays is hitting only .182. Either way, either one of Hays and Santander can be switched with Cowser. Tony can always DH if you want a LHH in the DH role. Hays and O'Hearn are solid bats coming off the bench. Let the damn kid play.

Not as good as Mayo at DH and Jackson at 2B
-
Gunnar - SS Adley - C Mounty - 1B Taters - RF Hays - LF Westy - DH Mullins - CF Urias - 3B Mateo - 2B

What Will The McKenna Move Be? DFA or Trade?
.500_OR_BETTER replied to sportsfan8703's topic in Orioles Talk
DFA -- 100% I doubt a team will claim him and then I guess it's just up to him to decide if he wants to take a minor league assignment. Personally, I think he's getting pushed lower and lower down the OF depth chart with our younger players moving up, he would honestly be better off with another club. -
I highly doubt they will postpone the game... however, does anyone think they will delay the start time? Ideally 4/5PM would make sense so that the groundcrew can work on the field and allows more time for drying out.

If they are selling it for more than $5 a can - they can continue to keep Natty Boh out of OPACY.

Connolly: P.A. Announcer Ryan Wagner fired on Opening Day

We moved all around the stadium last night (lower level). With the walk up music her voice was just drowned out. Each batter it was the same. -

I am not trying to be rude or anything but I have been to a handful of games this year and you can barely here the PA announcer. The entire game is just very monotone. Again not trying to be rude but is this the best we have!?
