Except he’s been better than that, so that’s not an accurate description of him.
I disagree. 2023-2024 Baumann stats:
3.69 ERA, 4.41 FIP, 4.77 xFIP, 4.48 SIERA, 4.90 xERA
That paints a clear picture of a 4.50 ERA guy to me. I trust the peripherals, especially when it comes to relievers where ERA is very noisy.

Big Mike threw a no-hitter for Bowie. He got some big outs over the last few years. He'll find a job somewhere.
Ultimately, he's a 4.50 ERA right handed bullpen guy. They're a dime a dozen.

Short answer is, OPS measures batting, not baserunning. There are plenty of other stats that judge overall offense that take baserunning into account.
Fangraphs' Offense (Baserunning and Batting combined) is a good measure that does that. Elly de la Cruz and Gunnar are ahead of Salvador Perez in that one even though Perez is hitting better than them. Speed matters.
I'm a fan of Bradfield. Even if he doesn't hit, Billy Hamilton got to 12 fWAR on CF defense and baserunning alone. And if he does hit, he gets into Carl Crawford territory.

O'Hearn has 4 more walks than strikeouts this year. That didn't used to be special, but it is in today's game. As far as I can see, Rafael Palmeiro in 2004 was the last to do it for the Orioles in a full season of ABs and he wasn't much of a hitter by then.

Cots Contracts only has two teams with a lower payroll than the O's.
I've always found Spotrac to be the most accurate. It has the Os as 28th also.

I just noticed McCann hasn't walked yet this year in 58 PAs
Someone named Craig Robinson (not the actor) had 148 PAs without a walk for the Phillies in 1973. That seems to be the modern record.

This is a bench position for sure. The Milkman is the starting LF now.
Career wRC+ vs LHP:
Hays - 111
McKenna - 82
McKenna is a better defender by the fielding stats, but I don't trust him. He's a goofball. The starting OF defense is strong anyway so we're not desperate for a defensive replacement.

Os and Mets FOs look for similar things in relievers. We've seen a few waiver guys hopping back and forth. Look at Reed Garrett's numbers this year for them.

Catching fWAR since 2022:
1. Adley 12.2
2. Sean Murphy 10.1
3. Will Smith 9.9
4. William Contreras 9.4
5. JT Realmuto 9.3
The best catcher in baseball and it's not close.

I'm not a believer in Maverick Handley. His only notable offensive tool is his eye. He's essentially Brett Cumberland offensively.
Guys who don't hit for average or power in the minors but have a great eye tend to get blown away by ML stuff in the zone.
If his defense is outstanding (and I can't evaluate that), he could be a Caleb Joseph type backup catcher but that's it.

Besides not walking many guys, I agree, Kremer has been getting pretty "lucky" so far this year. He's a bit of a gamer though and he's typically outperformed his expected stats.
Either way, I agree, he's needs to keep pitching well or could have some risk to being options for no other reason than to lose a pitcher.
Dean really is a gamer. I love the intensity he brings on the mound. I don't want him starting any more playoff games, but he's a legit bottom of the rotation starter.
And he's been more valuable than Machado was in a few months for the Dodgers, so I guess Dan won that trade in the end

Can someone explain Terry Crowley to me? I was too young to watch him play. Is he being inducted as a coach or for longevity with the organization?
He had less plate appearances and was a worse overall hitter for the Orioles than Luke Scott. I'm not trying to be a hater, just trying to understand.

Love your passion, Roy. That was a statement series. Snatched first place right from them.
The Os are a better hitting, better running, better pitching, and better fielding team than the Yanks right now.

Jahmai Jones is on the Yankees now?!?? Dibs on him for Immaculate Grid, nobody else use him.
Great win, Mateo getting hot for a bit would be great until Holliday is ready again.

Of course he's confident. He built the best offense in the AL without signing a single free agent or big trade.
By fWAR, we have the 10th best pitching staff in baseball right now and that's despite bullpen issues, and 3 SP injuries. None of which seem to be long-term issues.
This is a really, really good team. And they're on pace for over 100 wins. I get that it's not the nature of sports fans, but I'm just sitting back and enjoying. I trust Mike and Sig and Eve.

I'm with you Roy.
I watched every at bat that Stevie Wilkerson, Pat Valaika, and Dwight Smith Jr. took for this team. This young, fun, talented team is our reward and I'm enjoying every second. But even if they still stunk, I'm not going anywhere.
Don't forget, you're here forever.

+10 defense for me. 10 runs is 10 runs. But on defense, I think there's a small, hidden bonus in there of getting pitchers off the field, keeping them healthy, and keeping them pitching with confidence.

Reminds me of Miguel Gonzalez, who came out of nowhere to be a major contributor to some playoff runs.
I doubt he ends up as a rotation mainstay. But I was certain O'Hearn would turn into a pumpkin after a few weeks too and he still hasn't.
-
He's faced 21 batters in 2024. 11 Ks, 3 hits (all singles), 0 BBs. Outstanding acquisition so far.

The Orioles signed De León for a $30,000 bonus in December two years ago. That makes him something of an unusual signing in that he did not get signed on January 15 with most of the other prospects of that type. The O’s found De León a little later. He was already 18 when they signed him, again unlike the typical Dominican signings who can be as young as 16.
Camden Chat
$30,000 is crazy cheap for Tony's #12 prospect in a great system. He's ahead of Jackson Baumeister who went to FSU, got drafted in the 2nd round, and got a 1.6M bonus.
It happens though. Elly de la Cruz signed for only $65,000. This stuff happens when you participate in this market.

"Skip, I've already thrown 130 pitches and this is my first start since Tommy John. And we're already up 18 runs. Are you sure I should go back out there for the 8th?"
"Dang it Brnovich we need this win. The people of Bowie need this win. You go out there and shove until I tell you to stop."

The box score says Kyle Brnovich threw 142 pitches in 8 IP. Obviously wrong, but I love the thought of Bowie riding a guy who just came back from TJ surgery like it's Game 7 of the WS for a random game in April.

I'm not infatuated with Norby. People talk like he dominated AAA last year. I'm just scouting the stat line, but he had a 109 wRC+ which is solid but nothing to write home about for a bat-first prospect. Guys like Stowers and Ortiz outhit him. Trade Norby for a RP somewhere.
Mayo, otoh, is a stud. Can't wait for him to be in Baltimore.

I think Pinto is getting TJS, right?
Ah, I hadn't seen that. He's out then. Worst time to get it, too. He's basically out for 2 years.
I'll add Wandisson Charles to the Names to Watch category on the off chance he learns how to throw strikes. 1 IP 2 K 0 BB in his first outing of the year tonight.
Billy Cook 2023
in Minors

I was thinking this last night as well. His numbers are eye-popping right now. Tony's write-up on him over the winter makes him sound like Steve Pearce with SB ability, though Cook actually has reverse splits in the minors.
One knock against him is that he's vastly outperforming his batted ball metrics according to Statcast. .411 wOBA vs .335 xwOBA and the lowest EV (85.7) of Norfolk's starters. So my guess is he's just on a heater right now, but he has some potential to be a bench guy in the future. Worth keeping an eye on.
