  1. So, look, I get the umpire blew a couple at the top of the zone, but if Mancini makes a play Watkins and the Orioles are out of the inning. Often times umpires will have a low zone or high zone and both hitters and pitchers need to adjust. Prior to the AB to Grossman, Watkins didn’t have enough information for an adjustment, so that’s not really on him. I only watched the first inning, so I don’t know if he made one or not. I remember my college coach telling our team, “You can be right or you can adjust and give yourself a better chance to succeed. Complaining about the strike zone to the decision maker ain’t helping you.”
  2. Hard to disagree. I thought he had the possibility of a back of the rotation guy when I saw him last year, but he needs to figure it out at Norfolk if there’s to be a second chance. Along w/ Kremer and Lowther, they can all stay there until they do or they’re no longer considered options.
  3. Couldn’t tell if you were responding to a post or you just have some info I haven’t seen. On what are you basing this?
  4. Yes, but complete autonomy in the area of scouting!
  5. Sure, and it’s definitely not velocity, which is one of the more prominent ingredients. It’s like I keep saying about Tanner Scott, when a guy throws that hard he’s going to get plenty of opportunities. Akin does have a decent SO rate though, likely because of the higher spin rate, but it isn’t enough if he continues to get shellacked.
  6. I missed it, but I was asking about his performance in the Watkins’s thread. Sounds like he had some bad luck?
  7. Defending him after a poster ripped him?
  8. For some reason, that’s what I thought, too, but the reality is his walk rate is above league average (8.9%) at 10.3%. I think soft tossing guys get the benefit of the doubt even w/ knowledgeable people. The thinking is sort of, “He doesn’t throw very hard, so he must have good command.”
  9. Well, I missed it, but the box score doesn’t look good. Maybe this is who he is? A guy with so-so stuff who has to have superior command to get through a ML lineup.
  10. Hays hasn’t looked good for a couple weeks now, so yes.
  11. I wasn't impressed with Zimmerman when he was healthy. Straight FB, no depth with the CU and a CH with little deception or movement. But yeah, give him a spot.
  12. Good call. I’ve wondered if he might even be good in a closer role with as hard as he throws and the movement he gets on the two seam FB. Whatever it is, they need to get him out of the rotation. The experiment has run its course.
  13. Yeah, Heim would have been a good option defensively. Maybe Cumberland comes up before the year’s out. He’s no great shakes behind the dish, though.
  14. From your keyboard to Elias’ eyes, or, the eyes of his OH reader.
  15. They do have a real catcher. He’s currently at Bowie.
  16. Yup, for as much as I rip him he’s for a ton of potential. That can be bad, especially for someone who’ll never realize it, but there’s always a shot he wakes up at some point. Like I told people who wanted the Orioles to cut bait with him in the minors, you can’t teach velocity. They’ll give him every opportunity to succeed because of what’s in his left arm. Until then, buckle in, folks.
  17. This thread would be more aptly named The Tanner Scott Crap Table for a gambling analogy. That way we could all chime in with, “Scott, craps again,” or, “Scott craps the bed, AGAIN,” or, “Tanner Scott craps out.” Just sayin’....
