  1. Watching Urias and thinking it might be time to let Mateo face more righties.
  2. Figures after all the chatter from Game 1 Oswaldo Cabrera punks the O's with a bomb that's a HR in 5/30 ballparks.
  3. I don't know if the O's have one run in them, much less two.
  4. Burnes needs to have some quick innings.
  5. Love to see 3 Yankee Ks, don't love 20 pitches. Burnes has gone deeper than six innings just once, would like to see it happen again.
  6. Kremer got squeezed by Bucknor on three of those four walks. (Or McCann did a horrible job framing, I was at the game so I couldn't tell.) Look at the Gameday. In the first, Soto walked on four pitches but could easily have been down in the count 1-2. Stanton should have been called out on strikes in the second. Judge got a gift call to get ahead 2-0 in the sixth. The only "bad" walk was the walk to Grisham.
  7. Santander also has terrible stats vs. Cortes and has been making some truly awful swing decisions lately. I had thought this would be a good day to play Kjerstad in RF.
  8. Why not just walk Judge and set up Perez vs. Rizzo?
  9. No hits since Westburg singled and ran himself into an out.
  10. Santander didn't see one strike in that at bat.
  11. If I'm a Yankees fan, I'm not sure how we don't have seven runs by now, but as an Orioles fan I'll take it.
  12. Since Westburg's blunder, seven straight retired on what seems like eight pitches. Puke.
  13. Look, if even Tampa Bay can't figure out their bullpen this year, what chance does anyone else have? Finding half a dozen random guys each year to throw 50 innings of 99 mph fastballs with insane sliders before their arms explode is their whole thing.
  14. The bullpen has, to this point, lacked a long man. Someone who can go 3 innings a couple of times a week. There are guys who maybe fit this profile like Akin or Baumann, but Hyde and Elias seem to want to make them high leverage guys, which has kinda worked for Akin, not so much for Baumann. As I said in the Kimbrel thread, in the ten days between April 15-24, Kimbrel was used five times and earned four saves and a win. Those four saves were for games in which the O's had leads of 7-2, 7-0, 4-0, and 6-0. The Orioles do not have anyone they can hand the ball in the sixth inning and say, we're up six, we trust you to go 3 and 1/3 innings and not give up six runs. Now, maybe Suarez becomes that guy. Maybe Wells when he comes back. Maybe Irvin.
  15. He certainly should not be wasted on any 3-run save opportunities, which he's already done a couple of times.
  16. So, do I have it right that the last eight hitters Kimbrel has faced, going back to the Angels' Jo Adell walking and then caught stealing, have all reached? Five walks and three XBH? Of course, four of Kimbrel's last five appearances prior to Friday were to protect ninth inning leads in games the Orioles at one time led 7-2, 7-0, 4-0, and 6-0. As the African proverb says, "it takes a village to overwork a closer."
  17. You had this same rant in the game thread. No team is pitching around anybody with a runner at first and two out. You're not putting the winning run in scoring position on purpose. This is just like the "why don't we intentionally walk Randy Arozarena every single at bat" threads we have to deal with every time he gets a hit.
  18. I mean, you weren't going to walk him and put a runner in scoring position. Webb made a terrible pitch. As did every reliever tonight except Akin.
  19. I still think they should have pinch run Mateo and given him a shot at swiping third. Might have scored on the weak grounder.
  20. You have to run Mateo for Westburg, swipe third, and maybe try a suicide squeeze. That's the only shot.
  21. Will this Spence guy be available at the deadline? He's absolutely clowning us.
  22. Well, Mason Miller will definitely be unavailable tomorrow, and maybe Sunday, so that's cool.
