  1. Can the bats wake up? They've left a lot of opportunities go by the wayside.
  2. Even when Akin is getting people out, I don't really know how he does it. He throws a mid-'90s fastball, his control is average-ish, and he's left-handed. Is there another reason he's a major leaguer?
  3. Akin is not Danny Coulombe.
  4. Well the Royals are no help, as usual.
  5. Well, that was a dominant inning from Schwellenbach the third time through the order.
  6. That's the third of those bloop hits in two starts by Povich.
  7. Apologies if this was already posted:
  8. I think Povich has looked a lot better than Suarez, who I think got some lucky breaks last night.
  9. Give the LF wall the game ball. Shove it right in that padding.
  10. I, for one, am shocked that the Royals are already losing 2-0 to the Yankees, and that Bobby Witt and Salvy Perez reached base and were stranded.
  11. Hitless in the last two games and two two-out errors on routine plays. Jordan's in a bad place.
  12. LOL at Brandon Hyde having a sleeve patch on his hoodie.
  13. Ah, OK, I see he got one AB in the Saturday game and doubled. Still, one plate appearance since last Thursday.
  14. Did Austin Hays bat in the Tampa series? I know he was a defensive replacement at some point but I didn't think he ever hit.
  15. Don't forget that we're starting two guys who haven't been in the batter's box in a week!
  16. That may be. I don't follow volleyball and I don't know anything about those teams.
  17. I think I read somewhere that August Busch wanted to name Busch Stadium "Budweiser Stadium" but the commissioner wouldn't let him. It's true that owners have never been above making a buck, it's in their DNA as millionaires and now billionaires. It's telling, though, that NFL is the one holdout among sports leagues in keeping ads off the uniforms (not counting the Nike swoosh). NFL owners are greedy, but there is that "Protect the Shield" culture that kicks in and makes them understand that jersey ads make the league look cheap and struggling financially. Not having the ads projects success for the brand of the league.
  18. It's funny because when Peter Angelos was really digging his heels in about not allowing a team in D.C., he tried to show that the Orioles represented the whole DMV region by really clamping down on all mentions of Baltimore. Of course, the gray road jerseys said "Orioles" (as they did every year between the time the Senators left and the Nationals arrived), but I remember how the P.A. announcer wouldn't even say "Baltimore Orioles" when announcing the lineups. It was just "the starting lineup for your Orioles." And I distinctly recall an article quoting Jim Hunter where he said he was not supposed to refer to the Orioles as Baltimore on the air ever. So if announcers are calling the team "Baltimore" in 2024 I think that's great and I'm going to enjoy it.
  19. Rooting for the Royals to win a game makes you really appreciate how deep and balanced the Orioles lineup is. Watching KC hit against tough pitching is just a total waste of time until Witt and Perez are due up. Adam Frazier pinch hit for their cleanup hitter in the 9th tonight. And they're one of the better run scoring teams in the AL.
  20. This. You only get so many shots at your division rivals with the new schedule. Malpractice not to have your ace go in New York.
