  1. Is that a reference to Kim? I was at that OD game, and was annoyed that fans were booing him.
  2. If the problem with Davis is mental more than anything mechanical (and the jury is out on that), I tend to think the rebuild might be exactly what he needs. It takes a lot of pressure off his shoulders if we’re not even remotely expected to be competitive. Maybe he can loosen up and not overthink everything. You’re going to lose 100 games. Just enjoy playing baseball.
  3. Agreed, he really helped them when they needed it most. A lot of Dodgers fans seem to think they were bound to make the postseason one way or another but bound to lose once they got there. Personally I wish Milwaukee had made it through instead of LA.
  4. Really happy for Steve Pearce. He deserved his moment (and a ring). I’m visiting Los Angeles right now, and even before the Series started or his “Johnny Hustle” comment, it was amazing how quickly Machado wore out his welcome here. I talked to a bunch of fans here (my Orioles cap starts a ton of conversations) who almost all said they loved him for the first few months but they saw him loaf or just act like a jerk enough times that he just fell out of favor. And they were especially disgusted with his attitude in the postseason. The bar I was at for game 3 were screaming bloody murder at him when he only got a single out of the ball he hit off the left field wall. A few people commented to me, “You guys sure got the better end of that trade.”
  5. I have to think the end result will be somewhere towards the median. His Orioles career was so frustrating because of his flashes of brilliance and dominance (“How about Kevin ******* Gausman!”, in Tommy Hunter speak), followed up by a guy who nibbled far too much, had no secondary pitches working, and then got hammered when he was forced to throw a pitch down the middle.
  6. What I find annoying/troubling is that, under advice from his new team after a loss in his first start for Atlanta, Gausman has ditched his wind-up and is pitching exclusively from the stretch. He says it’s kept him from flying open and allows him better command of his fastball and slider. It’s only three starts since then (all wins, 3 ER in 22 IP), so SSS, but please don’t tell me something that simple might be the answer.
  7. ‘Flash’back to all those posts made in April and May about what a mistake it was to let him go, how he was finally hitting with regular ABs, etc. ? OPS by month: April .798 May .581 June .293 July .174
  8. Agreed. For every halfway decent signing like Scott Erickson, it seems like there are three or four Sid Fernandez disaster stories.
  9. I’m starting to think we should go the Eddie Gaedel route for the rest of the season over Davis. He’d get his walks and the power wouldn’t be much different.
  10. Right. I mean, Taylor Teagarden used PEDs just to be at the weak-hitting backup catcher level of Taylor Teagarden. But as for the good players, it is worrying. It makes me wonder if it’s still a lot more widespread than any of us will ever know.
  11. I liked Wieters while he was here, but I’m not missing him.
  12. I think it greatly depends if it’s a hometown or visiting player. It didn’t feel wrong as a kid to boo Reggie when he was at Memorial Stadium with the Yankees or Angels. I would never boo a hometown player, though.
  13. “Weak one” is also the scouting report on Flaherty’s hitting ability.
  14. My favorite underdog Oriole. I couldn't make it to his T-shirt night last year so I bought one on eBay the day after that game, which is still one of my favorite Oriole shirts. Mancini's emergence made it clear he wasn't going to be a regular, so I hope he gets ABs for the Phils and hits well. I would like to see him stick around MLB in the coming years.
  15. The reactions of the fans is priceless. Half a dozen of them making the shocked "Home Alone" gesture simultaneously.
  16. I seriously wondered if Davis had vision problems, since he often swings like it. But I ruled that out since someone with poor vision wouldn't be able to pick throws out of the dirt as effectively as he does.
  17. On Guthrie's birthday, no less.
  18. Today against the Phillies, Guthrie had one of the worst pitching lines I've seen in recent years. 2/3 of an inning, 6 hits, 4 walks and 10 earned runs. That outing ain't Royal.
  19. That's telling. So if they had trotted out a starter In his place who could go 6 innings and give up 3 runs, how many more games might they have won? I really like Ubaldo as a person and I root for him every time he's on the mound, if only to prove the naysayers wrong and sort out his mechanics, but he sure doesn't make it easy most of the time.
  20. He breaks... the hearts of O's fans.
  21. During this latest episode, Kang (who has a tattoo on his leg...of his own face) plowed through metal median poles in a congested area and then fled the scene. Dashcam footage from his own car of the accident can be seen here. When police tracked down the car, he said his friend had been driving the vehicle... until additional CCTV footage clearly showed Kang behind the wheel. The third strike cost him his Korean driver's license; I assume his celebrity alone kept him from doing time. It also cost him a spot on South Korea's WBC team. The Pirates claimed to be unaware of Kang's first two DUI offenses and recently acted surprised when they learned about them. You would think the team President Frank Coonelly would be more up on these things, given Kang's hard-partying reputation in Korea and Coonelly's own DUI.
  22. According to this story, the Pirates' Jung Ho Kang has been denied a work visa by US authorities due to his third DUI offense in South Korea. He may now miss a good portion or perhaps all of the 2017 season. There is also mention of Kang also possibly having a DUI in another country (not Korea or the US). Kang received an 8-month suspended jail sentence in Korea for his last offense. No pity here, sorry. It's time for the guy to grow up and stop risking the lives of others.
  23. What about Juan "The Windmill" Samuel?
