  1. And now Cowser is up. If we see a “hays to the il” kinda call I’m going to shut myself.
  2. Just like I said they should do two days ago! But Hyde also said Hays was back in the cage taking reps.
  3. Hey alright! I might’ve said something of merit!
  4. I’m just thinking we don’t want to be down a man for an important series. Putting him on ten days rest is only sacrificing 7 games. It’s an interesting position to be in. But yeah only if he’s actually hurt.
  5. Fair point haha. My only counter to that is with the all star break, his bat would be gone for a shorter time than a normal 15 day stint would dictate.
  6. Why not immediately move him to the 15 day IL and call up Cowser to make good use of the short right porch at Yankee stadium? Seems like a smart move to me. Though Hays deserves to be an All star, he likely won’t be playing so make the move Elias. Now is the opportunity. You don’t want to go into a divisional series short handed in the outfield.
  7. Yes. We and Sig and Eve will make the right call. No worries about that at all.
  8. Screw Russo. That guy is pure trash.
  9. Nice. Good evening to you too.
  10. I get it, I get it. Just thought it was interesting that a guy like that could complete our lineup on both fronts. That was my main point. As to the contract needed, no way he signs that unless he's a different kind of guy knowing the bigger money would come on his third deal.
  11. Ok ok, hear me out. I know this is a long shot, but man doesn't it make sense? Look, we know we need a middle of the order bat and we know we need an ace. We know we have the payroll and a little time to tender some contracts to our youngsters. Wouldn't it be awesome (obviously) and a little cheaper (maybe not as obvious) to sign one player to fill both roles? I get that we likely won't sign a guy of his caliber, but we certainly have the possibility to do so. If he gets injured, well, then we are screwed out of both spots, but it would cover both needs and with a guy that is already the face of the majors. Plus, I'm a big believer in cyclical history. He is the Babe Ruth of our time. It would then be fitting to sign Ohtani as the Babe played for Baltimore. Talk about a nice bookend to history. Anyway, a boy can dream, but doesn't it at least somewhat make sense? A three year deal (he would never take that) in time to start paying out the big bucks to keep the rest of our future star Orioles in tact?
  12. Personally, I think we go with a reliever option. It'd be far cheaper and we a couple of guys waiting in the wings to fulfill those needed SP roles. Povich has looked good for example and we still have Rodriguez and Hall waiting in the wings. The need for this current team seems to be at reliever. We struck out with Givens in my opinion and Tate has been hurt. I wouldn't mind seeing how Charles does and trying to fill in the gaps with minor leaguers that have faired well. Still though, it would be very nice and cheap to go after a reliever even if it were a rental provided we don't trade any of our talent that are in the top 100 or on the fringe. If that deal can get done, then I'm all for it. I doubt that deal gets gone however and Elias keeps his eyes on the longevity of the team and window of opportunity moving forward. We are doing really well but I don't think Elias sacrifices the future to make this year a World Series bound team. Do we have the talent to get there? Of course we do. I just don't think Elias would be willing to sacrifice the future of this club. Think for a moment what a bonafide lefty starter would cost. Think about how much of the needle that moves this club. We are already at 60+% chance to make the playoffs. That's good, but he's thinking long term, as he should be. Now if one falls in our lap for a player that is likely logjammed at his position, then well, he will make that move. I just think we rely on our player development and ready a kid to help out the bullpen internally. My guy is Charles.
  13. Perhaps the play is, build buzz in hopes in small sample size he hits a homer or two. Then as his stock is highest, play that strength into a trade. If he really is Mateo with more power and less speed, I’d take Mateo.
  14. I'm going with the timeline that Holliday has provided and like Henderson, I have no doubt. The value diminishes entirely if Ortiz proves he has no power at the MLB level. We've seen multiple prospects that mash at the AAA level but when it comes to MLB, lose it all. So is the value greater as what it could mean vs what it does mean? Add to it that Henderson can play SS and we obviously know Urias can play 3B so what is best? Elias and company know but it's fun to think about.
  15. What leads you to believe he won't be ready next year or at the most the year after? So you're committing to Ortiz as a stopgap? Why not just continue to rollout Mateo? Just strange to completely see Ortiz as the guy until the other guy arrives instead of trading him when he has the possible potential value.
  16. for how long though? Once Holliday is ready? If that's the case, why wouldn't you just roll out Mateo again especially since you could have Urias at third?
  17. ortiz seems like trade bait tbh.
  18. I highly doubt he overtakes Frazier here. Instead the best method for success if utilizing him in situations that are mitigated as in, against left handed pitching. Give Frazier a breather and put your quality players in best position to succeed.
  19. Completely agree. It's fun to speculate but we also should bask in the greatness of Elias and know whatever is decided, it's the best move possible. From Gibson to Frazier to Hicks to O'Hearn to...whatever else may befall. Can we really be critical?
  20. I do, when you have a number of options why would you not choose to put your best players in the best statistical probability to succeed?
  21. King Mountcastle does have a nice ring to it.
  22. I could see a similar scenario with Mullins where Mountcastle needs to get his head right and learn to change his approach. Then he comes back either later in the year or next year to reclaim his rightful place.
  23. dude just helped win the game today with his speed. No way would we just DFA him. Ridiculous. Is his calling better as a defensive replacement/pinch runner? Well yeah, but he still retains value on this team.
  24. That's a great story! Similarly, I was working down here in Texas and a scout for the O's came in. He had very glowing things to say about Westburg (and likely scouted him). This is a great day for O's baseball. I still think of one of the coaches' comments saying that if he had a kid, he'd want him to be Westburg. Sure, he's a good ball player but I think his work ethic and him as a person is even better.
