Happy to see him up, but this revolving door infield of guys alternating between SS, 3B and 2B has been hard to predict who is playing where on any given night. I wonder if it affects the players or messes with their heads, not knowing what infield position they'll play. I admire their flexibility and it's a good problem to have, I supposed, those kinds of options.

I wasn't able to be on the game thread as I was out of town, but in case it wasn't mentioned. our late ScOtt, whom the games threads are named for, would have been 61 years old today. Happy heavenly birthday, ScOtt - give me an O! He and I used to keep up with each other off of the board and often shared YouTubes off list. From his Facebook page, another place we kept up with each other:

I wonder if Joan has been posting here for years? Just kidding, but kind of fun to speculate.

That's fantastic! I saw her on the broadcast. Her original guitarist in the Blackhearts (his band became her band) Eric Ambel, is a Facebook friend of mine and he and I chat occasionally about music gear and microphones, etc. He was later in the Del Lords and The Yayhoos. Good interview here with him about his Joan days.

I think one of them are going to the outfield and McKenna is moving to the pen. -

I for one am looking forward to your next appearance in the booth. It'll be the first time they let a Marine Biologist do color. -
I can see the witch hat, but to me they looked a lot more like (Sam) Horns of Plenty.

The guy who first told me about Orioles Hangout wrote a song about growing up in Baltimore, leaving it and wanting to come back. Tom Meltzer, known on OH as Webley Webster wrote it. His band was Five Chinese Brothers and they were popular in NYC in the late 80s to the mid 90s. I love the lyrics. First verse and the closing line (bolded) are the best. We met when he moved from NYC to NC and I used to watch O's games at his house circa '05 - '09 because he had a satellite dish and I didn't. We've been in a few bands together since his move here. Once we won the Series, took it going away Once we sat on top of the NFL and the NBA But all that's over now, time went and slammed the door And even I packed up and left the city of Baltimore You know, the older we get the more we stay the same I just found out my radio can pick up the Oriole games I tune in every half-an-hour to get the score And remember the day's when I was growing up in Baltimore Back then I lived in a house, not a one-room flat I didn't have to work or buy food or do anything like that And the first girl that I ever loved lived right next door At night I'd take my dad's car and drive around Baltimore Something tells me this picture isn't right Like I'm forgetting how I smashed my dad's car driving stoned one Night How my parents fought, how I never even dated the girl next door How I was just a lonely mixed-up kid in Baltimore Looking back now, you know I do believe When I lived in Baltimore, I couldn't wait to leave Go somewhere else and get a brand-new start Now I'm dressing up the past 'cause the present is falling apart The older we get the more we stay the same Chasing after something that doesn't even have a name You know, we'll always trade what we've got for what we had before Everybody's a fool for something, I'm a fool for Baltimore

My wife hates the song and has been wanting it pulled for years, but just like Tony said, for whatever reason, it stuck and it's there. And I like you pointing out how Sweet Caroline has zip to do with Boston, either. Even West Ham has, "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" which I think is just as irrelevant to the city, ie. the slim connection to the team was a player / longtime fan of the football team next to the stadium named Bubbles. To bring it full circle, Baltimore had a Bubbles, too.

If Ed Norton is on the sock, just go all in and have Hannibal Lecter, too. We could even have a bobblehead tie-in for him. -
I see what you did there.

I think there's a video of McNulty downing 14 somewhere on the web. With Bunk egging him on.

21 upon his chest, He is one of the Orioles' best 26 suit up today but only one is Austin Hays

Now that you mention it ...

I think what he was doing was distorting the strike zone by making an inside strike look like it was *way* inside. I remember Jeter used to hang over the plate, too. Him bending over at the waist like one of those birds drinking water gizmos is one of my lasting images of him.

Check swings are such a frustrating part of the game. I almost feel like while MLB is in the rule change mood, just call any check swing a strike and be done with it. OR make a check swing a half-strike in an at-bat. Two of them by the same batter in an at-bat is a whole strike charged. Yes, sounds like sandlot, but that's where we are anyway with ghost runners, etc.

Just tuning in and it's the first thing I saw. That smirk he gave his dugout shows he knows he got away with it, too.
